2 Air Bag problem of the 2020 Audi Q3

Failure Date: 01/16/2025

We purchased a 2020 Audi Q3 (36000 miles) from carvana on December 5, 2024, and it was reported as having no past accidents. It was stolen on January 7. It was recovered on January 20 after the thieves crashed it into a telephone pole. The car sustained significant damage and there is evidence of blood on the interior. We have no idea the extent of any injuries because the thieves fled the scene. Our concern is that when we inspected the vehicle, we noticed that the airbags did not deploy.

3 Air Bag problem of the 2016 Audi Q3

Failure Date: 08/12/2024

My Audi Q3 was in repair at Audi spokane wa for an issue with the steering wheel, horn and airbag. I had it inspected at a shop in moscow id who diagnosed the damage as the wheel clock spring. Lux auto hause advised that I contact Audi dealership and stated the clock spring is under warranty. I made the next available appt with the dealership because Audi required my vehicle to be inspected at the dealership in spokane wa before covering a warranty repair. The dealership is approximately 150 miles away and Audi stated in their letter that my Q3 had to meet qualifying factors for the warranty repair which were passenger airbag light that stays on and steering wheel controls not working. Audi covered the warranty repair and returned my Q3 with the steering wheel controls broken and Audi damaged my cruise control. I could hear plastic pieces in my vehicle steering wheel. I requested that they reinspect the supposed repair and waited for another 4 hours at the dealership. Audi did nothing about the damage and insisted it is damage from something else. Audi stated 2 times…we cleared the passenger airbag light which seemed to be their only concern. Audi left me with my vehicle seriously damaged, they did not repair the steering wheel or the hand controls and damaged my ability to drive my Audi with the cruise control. I filed a complaint with Audi in mi and they did not initiate a repair for the damage they caused my Audi Q3. When I attempted to provide the diagnostic from lux auto hause that proved my cruise control did not have an error code prior to being at Audi- they ignored me. Lux auto hause is 1 of 2 authorized european repairers in my area. I have had successful repairs completed there and can’t understand why Audi would be negligent when I can prove the damage didn’t exist prior to the clock spring breaking. My Audi Q3 steering, hand controls and after being at the dealer-my cruise control. Is this something the NHTSA can investigate?.

The contact owns a 2018 Audi Q3. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 mph the steering wheel hand activated controls had stopped functioning. The contact stated the air bag warning light was illuminated. The contact had control of the vehicle, however she did not know if her air bags would deploy in the event of a crash. 6 Air Bag problem of the 2016 Audi Q3

Failure Date: 06/05/2022

My vehicle's airbag clock spring control unit has failed and does not work. This happened in June 2022. This part controls my airbag, my horn, vehicle display unit and other functions like the radio controls along with navigation. I had this confirmed by my local car repair shop. There is currently an air bag warning light illuminated which has been on consistently since June 2022. My horn does not work and has not worked since June 2022. Just prior to this failure the steering wheel made a plastic like crinkling noise. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Audi services has indicated in email and over the phone that this part is indefinitely on back order. Without this fixed the car will not pass my state's inspection requirements. I have also been informed that this clock spring control unit is the same part used in the recall that vw tiguans currently have.

7 Air Bag problem of the 2018 Audi Q3

Failure Date: 05/14/2022

The steering wheel started to make a weird noise while turning the airbag light then came on the steering wheel buttons stopped working. Took the car to dealer and the clock spring was defective non working. This is a safety issue I paid 821. 57 to fix this issue out of pocket. My car only has 50 k in mileage and the airbag would have not deployed if I was in an accident. This sounds like a safety issue needing a recall for this vehicle.

8 Air Bag problem of the 2017 Audi Q3

Failure Date: 05/04/2022

I lost control over all the functions on my steering wheel, including the horn and the drivers air bag. My mechanic told me, that I needed a new "clockspring". He called Audi to order the part but Audi confirmed that the part is on back order since last may and that they have no idea when it will be available. Over 4000 people are on the waiting list for that part. I contacted Audi several times, asking if I was expected to drive around without a horn and airbag. I was told not to drive the car if it's not save. Ive been driving around for a few month now without a horn and airbag but I do not feel save.

9 Air Bag problem of the 2015 Audi Q3

Failure Date: 01/03/2022

The clock spring is not functioning in our 2015 Audi Q3. The horn is non-functioning and we were told by the Audi dealership, after waiting for that part for three months, that there is a 50-50 chance that the driver air bag will not deploy and the cruise control is not working. I was alerted to this possible problem because my airbag light is on but was initially told it was only because of the horn. When we took it to the dealership initially to fix the horn, we were told it was on back order. I was not comfortable driving without a horn but was hoping it would be in soon. I continued to call every couple of weeks and was told not in yet. It was coming from overseas. Not until we went in and spoke with the service dept and kept asking more and more questions, did we find out that the clock spring is not coming any time soon. There seems to be a problem with the new clock spring being manufactured. Evidently it is the same part that vw uses, which was recalled, remanufactured and than problems still existed with the new part. I think it is not being manufactured. This is a huge concern because I commute to work which takes 3-4 hours a day of highway and city driving. It is a disappointment that Audi did not alert us to this manufacturing problem when we first took it in. Evidently it is impossible to find a used part and not recommended because no guarantee it will work either. They have offered to buy it back for less than what I paid and it is very hard to find another comparable used car that I can afford and won't have the same problem. . . I am very disappointed in the dealership not telling me about the possibility of the airbag not working and that the horn would not be coming any time soon since the problem has not been resolved with the replacement clock spring (part #5k0-953-569-al). I think this needs to be told to the consumers.

10 Air Bag problem of the 2018 Audi Q3

Failure Date: 10/15/2021

Noticed a clicking sound in the steering column that was intermittent; after a week, the airbag light lit up and stayed lit . . . Per the manual, contacted Audi immediately for service. Was told it was a "clock spring module" and that it would take a few weeks for the part to come in. I was also told that the airbag would likely not activate in a crash . . . They could not guarantee it would also not automatically just deploy. It has now been over 2 months and the service department at Audi has told me that they have no idea when that part will be available. Additionally, none of the other buttons on the steering column are active now.

11 Air Bag problem of the 2020 Audi Q3

Failure Date: 01/25/2021

In front passenger seat if passenger sits on a cushion (my wife has hip problem) or blanket etc it turns off passenger airbag. Reported numerous time to dealer and their response is Audi designed it that way. Easily replicated. Next, vehicle unexpectedly and without provocation suddenly accelerates at low speeds'4-5mph to 9-10mph. Its unnerving especially if car in front. Airbag is all the time everywhere. Acceleration is going from stop to moving parking lots, stop light, etc. Both have happened since delivery. Reported to dealer numerous time. No answer.
