36 Power Train problem of the 2015 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 12/11/2021

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? timing belt broke while traveling at 75 mph on the highway, and at 71,000 miles odometer how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? car was shaking and acting crazy on the interstate has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? issue was confirmed and Audi quoted me $8000 to repair because of bent valve heads has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? inspected by Audi of louisville were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no they came on after the car started shaking violently on the interstate I am still waiting on a second quote of getting this engine repaired from another certified repair center. I will attached what I paid for the diagnostics report. Per the manual on this car, you should change your timing belt at 100,000 k miles- not have to replace your engine because it breaks prematurely at 70,000 miles. This is terrible for this quality of car and price!! I am furious!!.

37 Power Train problem of the 2022 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 12/01/2021

1. When parked on a slight incline, vehicle rolls forward (downhill) after shifting from park to reverse. Dealership says this is normal, says car will roll forward up to 10 feel even when transmission is in reverse. Appears to be due to a design defect in the electronic transmission. 2. Windows will not open when outside temps are below 20 degrees. Dealership says they have no solution. This car has a bunch of other problems that Audi won’t address, but the above are clear safety issues. Thank you.

40 Power Train problem of the 2021 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 06/27/2021

I leased a 2021 Audi Q5 (VIN: wa1baafy7m2008173) in November 2020. 2021 Audi Q5 has gateway module underneath the middle row seat. The gateway module is like the brain of the car and if it stops working the car stops - basically the car is brain dead. In my case, I was driving the car with my family I. E. Wife, 7 and 3 year old kids when the car abruptly shut off. Luckily, I was on a road with 45 mph speed limit and no traffic, so nothing happened to us. If this happened on a highway or other situation anything could have happened to me and my family. After safely parking the car and getting it towed to Audi westmont, the car was inspected, and I was informed about the gateway module issue. To my shock, the mechanic said that it’s a design flaw that Audi is aware of but doesn't have a solution yet. Furthermore, he said that just at laurel Audi in westmont 4 cars were repaired for this problem. When I googled, several Audi owners have faced this problem. As I mentioned earlier, despite knowing the issue Audi didn't inform the owners and yet to inform the owners despite this being a serious enough problem that could put owners/families in a life threatening situation. Here's the link to the video taken during the diagnosis of the problem: https://asr. Autonation. Com/tv0ij5ym5c. I have also attached picture of the hodgepodge fix I. E. Wrapping gateway module in plastic. The reason I say it is hodgepodge is that wrapping in plastic won't prevent water from condensing on gateway module and the problem repeating. Preceding the days my car had this problem, there were heavy rains and humidity was very high, as noted in the video there is no source of water leak or water entering the gateway module externally, given that finding and the fact that there was heavy rains, high humidity in the preceding days - condensation can likely be the potential cause of the problem. There are thousands of 2021 Audi Q5's and every single one has this risk.

41 Power Train problem of the 2021 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 12/21/2020

Q5 has a very serious defect, that is, there is a gateway module located under the rear seat cushion/cup holder. All of the communications to all the controllers go through this little box. If water spills, it collects around the gateway and corrodes it, which will shut down the car. This shutdown occurred while I was driving my family. Lost all power, engine, electrical, everything. Barely coasted out of the roadway. This is a design flaw to locate this sensitive module underneath rear cup holders and will lead to dangerous situations for people in the car.

42 Power Train problem of the 2017 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 11/12/2020

Vehicle transmission downshifts abruptly when slowing to a stop. Transmission slams into each gear as you slow causing an unexpected increase in engine braking. This occurs regardless of drive select mode (comfort, auto, or sport). There are numerous complaints about this behavior across Audi owner forums for vehicles with the same engine and transmission combination (3. 0l supercharged v6 mated to zf 8hp transmission). Additionally, there's a frequent long delay for the reverse camera image to display on the screen when selecting reverse. It can take up to 7-10 seconds. If there is a software update available, Audi dealer advises it will cost money to have installed on the vehicle. As this is a safety concern I would imagine the manufacturer would handle as a TSB, regardless of year or mileage.

47 Power Train problem of the 2016 Audi Q5

I pulled into a parking space and put the car in park. As I did so, the engine revved and the car lurched forward striking a tree. The air bags deployed and the car was written off by the insurance company. I had noticed a couple of times before that the engine would rev as I was slowing to a stop, but had never had any issues with the transmission.

48 Power Train problem of the 2018 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 09/19/2019

1. I had an accident at approximately 10:45 a. M. On Thursday, September 19, 2019 in the parking lot for the medical offices located at 2000 south mays street, round rock, texas. 2. I parked in a space on the south side of the building, which is part of their property. 3. My normal habit is to place the car in park when I stop in a parking spot. 4. Since it was very warm, I left the motor running so I'd have air conditioning as I placed the sun screen over the windshield. 5. The sun shade is one piece and takes a lot of time and effort to properly install. 6. When I completed installing the sun shade, I noticed the car was moving backwards at less than 5 mph. 7. I tried repeatedly to stop the car by pressing on the brake and slamming on the brake. 8. What was happening made no sense to me; it was surreal. Why was the car moving backwards and why couldn't I stop the car? 9. The car stopped when it hit a parking lot light pole on my left rear and the left front of a Toyota on my right rear. 10. The car is equipped with every pre sense, driver assistance, and collision avoidance system Audi offers; however, all systems failed to detect or avoid the collision. 11. The accident was caused by some weird problem with my 2018 Audi Q5. There was nothing I could do in the time I had without the brakes working.

49 Power Train problem of the 2012 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 08/06/2019

The car would not start when I went to pull out of garage. The car was stationary. On the 8th attempt it started and I drive it to work. It felt like it was going to stall out when I stopped or slowed down. I put the key in ignition it would go on but not start and turn off. The epc light went on. This is the first and only time this has happened however it still feels like it is going to stall out when I am in pro or stopped at a light or when I slow down under 10 mph. I took it to the Audi dealership and was told it was the timing chain which is a 2600. 00 repair.

After having done the epa & carb approved emissions modifications 2014-2016 3. 0l tdi (generation 2 pc) emission recal 23v4, the car developed a lurch or hesitation between 30 and 40 mph. The service advisor at the dealer said there's nothing can be done. This is a safety concern because I'm afraid the car will eventually stop in the middle of the road, lose control or cause a crash.

56 Power Train problem of the 2018 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 03/02/2018

While driving down the expressway in chicago, transmission, and all safety features completely shut off. Pressing on accelerator had no effect, and with limited steering was able to pull to roadside barely missing high-speed traffic. Expressway roadside is narrow, so was nearly hit by many cars while waiting for tow service. Car would not restart and with full electronic transmission, no ability to put into neutral. Audi roadside assistance did not provide timely tow service. Extremely dangerous and unsafe.

57 Power Train problem of the 2011 Audi Q5

Purchased a 2018 Audi Q5 in July 2017. The engine lost power or acceleration when making a turn. Took it to the dealer 2 times for the same problem and cannot reproduce the problem.

59 Power Train problem of the 2013 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 05/22/2017

At 62000 miles there is a faulty bearing in the transmition that is causing noise to resonate in the cabin. I took the car to a reputable independent mechanic in san francisco and his diagnosis was that it was a manufacture defect, and I should not accept this from Audi since this problem should not have occurred at such low mileage.

60 Power Train problem of the 2011 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 04/27/2017

I was driving my car around some blind curves when I heard a clank kind of sound and clicking and then lost power fortunately I was close enough I coasted home. I was very lucky. I could not get the engine to start and had it towed to the Audi dealer he said, engine no start no power: found engine cranks without compression. Found timing chain stretched and jumped timing. Removed and inspected valves and found all valves to be bent. At this time we need to replace the cylinder head and timing chain and related parts. Parts: $4800 labor: $4835 total: $9635. 00 regards, I believe this is a problem that actually is so common that several mechanics have websites on how to protect your chain from doing this. I of course had no idea about any of this before. . . Because no one told me it was an issue!!!! or I would have done the preventative care. Also, I just read they are doing a class action suit with this in new jersey. I can tell you I am feeling very nervous about driving my Audi again!!! I have no confidence in these chains!.

61 Power Train problem of the 2010 Audi Q5

Parts distribution disconnect.

62 Power Train problem of the 2013 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 06/02/2016

The vehicle stopped at the highway at around 65mph due to coolant leak/water pump leak. Emergency stop to the side of the road was necessary as well as vehicle towing. Illuminator light to turn off engine was on. Weather conditions at 100+ fahrenheit had potential of dangerous situation if I would have had my little ones.

63 Power Train problem of the 2011 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

Unresolved engine issue. Recall that they will not fix. Unable to trade in vehicle anywhere because of the active recall. Feel trapped in an unsafe 'family' car.

64 Power Train problem of the 2012 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 02/22/2016

I was driving at highway speed (~65 mph) today when traffic quickly came to a stop and I braked fairly hard. About when the car came to a stop, a "tpms malfunction" (tire pressure monitoring system) error message came on the dash and the car could no longer accelerate, as the engine was disconnected from the transmission. The gear shift lever was in "drive", but the engine was free-revving as if the transmission was in "neutral". I shifted to "s" (sport) mode - no change. I shifted to "park" and then back to "drive" - no change. Traffic on the highway had begun moving and I was stranded, blocking traffic. After another attempt, I shut off the vehicle and turned it back on. At that point, "drive" engaged properly and I was able to drive back home safely. My vehicle has been maintained properly at all regularly scheduled service intervals. I had not experienced this issue before, but, after reading through blogs, it seems like this is an issue that several Audi vehicles have experienced over the last few years and it's not clear if Audi of America considers this recall worthy. My perspective is that this is a significant safety concern and warrants further investigation, as it is intermittent and acute. In other words, it is unpredictable / recurring and can have a serious impact if it happens at the wrong time, unlike a normal wear-and-tear issue. Thank you for taking the time to consider this incident as one that is worthy of further investigation.

65 Power Train problem of the 2011 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 05/11/2015

Transmission often jerks when slowing down below 10 mph, car jerks forward.

66 Power Train problem of the 2014 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 10/23/2014

This has happened now several times, when the car comes to a complete stop or just about a complete stop, then trying to accelerate there is no throttle response instead of accelerating as expected. Is the abs system cutting power to the engine? the car is 'dead' for about two seconds and then power is restored. I was almost hit by oncoming traffic. Reportedly, this is apparently widely documented and ongoing since at least the year 2000, and not specific to Audi. . . What is the NHTSA doing about this???.

67 Power Train problem of the 2011 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 04/14/2014

I purchased a certified preowned Audi Q5 last March 2013. The vehicle was running fine. No problems or concerns. I took the vehicle to an Audi dealer in February 2014 for an annual service and also in March 2014 for my yearly inspection/emissions testing. On April 2014, I had loss the vehicle due to an unknown fire that had started in the car. Yes, my car was engulfed in fire! prior to this fire, I had no problems or messages on my dashboard or smelled smoke while I had drove the car. The car was running fine up until that day. I have no idea what happend to my vehicle. The insurance company had investigated this vehicle, and they stated that arson was not the blame for the fire. They r/o an electrical issue that might of been the cause of the fire. The insurance company had also researched recalls and manufacturer defects, and they claimed there were no issues. I am completely stunned about this incident. The car was parked all day, and I just can't believe out of nowhere that the car had caught on fire. I've been in contact with the dealer where I purchased the vehicle, and they are as shocked as I am about what happen. Hopefully, I'll get an explanation as to why the vehicle had mysteriously caught on fire.

68 Power Train problem of the 2014 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

This is the third incident where the car came to a stop, with no throttle response, when I made a hard left turn (u-turn from a standing stop) instead of accelerating as expected. There appear to be several thousand similar complaints in your database, from many different makes, where the abs system cuts power to the engine instead of allowing a rapid acceleration from a standing start, when there is no traction problem, and cutting the power creates an immediate risk of crash by oncoming traffic. The car was 'dead' for about two seconds and then power was restored, allowing me to avoid being hit by oncoming traffic. But the bigger issue appears to be that the abs system will sometimes cut power for no reason, endangering the driver and vehicle. This is apparently widely documented and ongoing since at least the year 2000, and not specific to Audi. Updated 3/20/lj updated 03/20/2014.

69 Power Train problem of the 2011 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 02/28/2014

The vehicle was purchased with 20,000 miles and has been burning oil since. The car is under warranty and has gone through the manufactures oil consumption test, both 1 and 2 which they are saying barely passed. The car is continuing to burn oil and has gone through phase 1 again for the second time and am being told it passed. Audi states an oil change is good for 10,000 miles and here I am at 7,000 miles having to put oil in it and taking my car to the dealership every few months to test it.

70 Power Train problem of the 2011 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 11/06/2013

1. Q5 2. 0 has a very harsh downshift whether in automatic mode or in manual/sportronic. Specially 4->3 and 3->2 and 2->1. As a result the car comes to a stop and then jerk forward after the stop (2-1), causing accidents in parking garages specially in tight spots. Audi has acknowledged the issue, applied TSB-37-13-83 software update, even replaced the mechatronic unit but the harsh jerky downshift returns. Dealer says it is not a problem but a "characteristic" of this car. Escalated to Audi of America, and they confirm it is a characteristic of the vehicle and they say they cannot do anything about it. . Read more...
