1 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi S4

Failure Date: 07/26/2025

The Audi mmi malfunctions and reboots randomly while driving. Possibly being a software issue. There is a TSB code that the dealer used to reference for me ( TSB 2078437/1), but I cannot find it on the NHTSA website. The reboot issue shuts off all functions associated with it, including, but not limited navigation, rearview camera, and parking sensor use. This poses a risk since it can be distracting to pull back your navigation while driving or having your rearview camera cutoff mid mid-use. The issue does not appear as a warning lamp or any type of notification, and there are multiple reports of similar issues on online forums that have not been addressed.

2 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi S4

Failure Date: 07/17/2025

The main infotainment system is stuck restarting every 1-2 minutes. When the car is put into reverse, the rear back up camera will turn off while the vehicle is in motion and not resume.

3 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi S4

Failure Date: 07/01/2025

I am submitting a formal complaint regarding a persistent and dangerous issue with the mmi (multi media interface) system in my 2020 Audi S4. Since February 2025, the system has been spontaneously rebooting both while the vehicle is idling and in motion. When this occurs, the screen goes black and critical safety systems such as the rearview camera, parking sensors, and navigation become unavailable. The system requires driver interaction to restore functionality once it restarts, creating a major distraction. These reboots now occur every few minutes, severely affecting both usability and safe operation of the vehicle. Initially, this issue happened infrequently (about once every two weeks), but over time it has become constant. Based on extensive online reports from other owners—including threads such as this one on Audiworld: [xxx] appears to be a widespread defect affecting other Audi a4/s4 vehicles of the same year. This malfunction compromises several driver assistance and safety features, and I believe it presents a serious hazard, especially if it occurs during parking, reversing, or navigating unfamiliar areas. I urge NHTSA to investigate this matter and determine whether a recall or safety bulletin is appropriate. Thank you for your attention. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

4 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi S4

Failure Date: 06/22/2025

The multimedia interface (mmi) touchscreen radio will constantly reboot while driving regardless of variables. Diagnosis’ have proven problem to be undeterminable, this is a serious safety concern as I have lost back up camera and other safety features while driving, while I await the system to reboot. This reboot has been occurring non-stop since January. My research online and in other forums has led to a substantial group of vehicle owners suffering from the same issues across their vehicles. Audi has made no effort to rectify with the dealership simply stating they can charge to diagnose or replace. If it was an isolated incident I would be understanding as maintenance problems will arise, but to have a substantial population discussing this issue ad nauseum seems to be more widespread with no solutions.

5 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi S4

Failure Date: 06/17/2025

My Audi has been having an ongoing issue with the mmi rebooting while I am driving. It takes away my ability to see the maps and or hear the map telling me which direction to go. It has not been inspected yet however it is a common issue with the 2020 Audi cars that can be replicated however it is not predictable.

6 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi S4

Failure Date: 05/29/2025

The Audi mmi (multi media interface) system plays a crucial role in enhancing safety features by providing a user-friendly interface for managing various driver assistance systems and safety-related functions. These include features like emergency calls, roadside assistance, and the integration of driver assistance systems like adaptive cruise control and collision avoidance assist.

7 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi S4

Failure Date: 03/11/2025

Audi mmi (infotainment) frequently resets during use of car. Spoke to tech at Audi and they confirmed this is an issue on many 2020 Audi a4 and S4 vehicles. The blind spot monitors, parking sensors, and backup cameras all disabled when this happens. It can happen at any time.

8 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi S4

Failure Date: 03/01/2025

The mmi (multimedia interface) screen goes dead and reboots frequently (every 2-5 minutes) while driving. It is extremely frustrating and distracting. In addition, when the screen blacks out while driving in reverse, the backup camera, back up sensors and cross traffic warning systems do not operate until the system reboots, which can take several minutes. This problem occurs constantly while driving and requires me to re-enter navigation destination while driving. Using carplay for navigation is also affected, as the system reboots whether or not I am using a secondary media source like carplay, and I have to re-enter the destination whenever the mmi reboots. Also the mmi needs me to re-enter user information on the screen with every failure in order to get the system running again, which is very distracting while driving. I am not even able to turn off the screen to avoid the distraction, as it will automatically fail and reboot while turned off. This will turn the screen back on in the start-up mode and cause the radio to turn on randomly. When this happens, the stereo volume will sometimes come back on, and other times it appears to be playing music and radio stations, but the volume control will not work. Then it will randomly come back on very loud. The distractions are unavoidable, as I would be happy to just leave the mmi system off, but it is not possible! please require Audi to fix this problem!!! the dealer/manufacturer does not seem to be interested in fixing the issue, as is evidenced by the many complaints I have found on the NHTSA website.

9 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi S4

Failure Date: 02/27/2025

The primary infotainment/mmi screen randomly turns off and a system reboot occurs, which can take a period of time. This causes a loss of all parking sensors, rear view cameras, navigation etc. Dangerous when the system dies in the middle of a bustle parking lot or having to restart the system at high way speeds. Issues started suddenly around February. No fault codes in the car but problem persists.

10 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi S4

Failure Date: 02/20/2025

The mmi spontaneously reboots numerous times while driving. When the reboots happen, the screen goes black, and key systems such as the backup camera, rear obstacle detection, and navigation become unavailable until the reboot completes and the systems reload. Restoring functionality requires user input to get through the loading screens. The issue started in February 2025. I have attempted a factory reset (which did not solve the issue), and I have performed an obd scan, which returned no fault codes. This appears to be a widespread issue based on the numerous reports found on user forums online, affecting the same model year vehicles (for multiple examples, refer to [xxx] ). It is also interesting that most of the users experiencing this issue also report it starting around the same time (Jan/Feb 2025), and they all have similar software versions, and likely production dates. This should be considered a safety issue, as the reboots can happen in the middle of a reverse parking maneuver, and they render the backup camera and obstacle detection sensors completely inoperative until the system reloads. They also impact safety on the highway, as the reboots completely disable the navigation screens and require multiple user inputs to restore, while driving. Relevant TSB numbers include: TSB 2067021, TSB 2076404, TSB 2069112. " information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

11 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi S4

Failure Date: 02/10/2025

The main screen of the vehicle, which is called the mmi from what I understand, repeatedly shuts down and restarts while driving, up to 5 times or more per hour while driving. Sometimes this process can take 3 or more minutes. There appear to be hundreds of Audi customers that this affects according to my research. The dealership (Audi of nashua) charged for a possible software update repair that did not work, and do not seem to be familiar with a fix other than a $5,000+ repair to replace expensive hardware components. This is a major safety issue because it is what controls the phone and gps system, causing serious issues when trying to navigate in unfamiliar areas or when taking important phone calls from family members. It is a major distraction while driving and greatly increases the risk of accident.

12 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi S4

Failure Date: 02/02/2025

The mmi system is frequently rebooting at random moments while driving.

13 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi S4

Failure Date: 04/19/2024

My instrument cluster and its replacements have malfunctioned multiple times. The original instrument cluster/virtual cockpit failed to boot and had a black/blank screen on 4/19/2024 at 29,687 miles and was replaced on 5/15/2024 at 29,923 mi. That replacement one worked fine for a while and then did the same thing on 7/15/2024 at 33,655 miles and on 1/10/2025 at 42,532 miles. The instrument cluster was then replaced again on 2/10/2025 at 43,841 miles. That replacement unit took only a couple of days to act up again with the blank screen on startup on 2/13/2025 at 43,965 miles and once more on 8/1/2025 at 52,673 miles. I'm currently waiting to hear back from the dealer to get the instrument cluster replaced once again.

14 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi S4

Failure Date: 04/16/2024

Sos module. Audi had a service for the known problem internally (service action 90t2) then stopped it apparently but many of us still experiencing issues that were not able to get the part corrected. Sos, gps, bluetooth, all hands free does not work. 6 months plus of waiting for a $2k part on backorder because many of us having the issue.

15 Electrical System problem of the 2013 Audi S4

Failure Date: 11/12/2022

My mmi 5f module went out right after an oil change service on Nov 12, 2022 I called them as soon as I got home to inform leader automotive in normal IL. I was told I would not be able to be seen until January 5 2023 at 1:pm. I then called back a few days later and was able to move that appointment to Dec 16 at 10:00am. I paid $179. 11for them to inspect and locate the issue: according to leader autotomotive the 5f module is bad and needs replaced. In my print out it states it is no longer in production. This part # 8ri-035-746-c is my entire control module that controls all my safty sensors, fluid levels, tire pressure, suspension control, navigation, hands free technology etc. . . I contacted Audi USA via facebook and asked why the part is no longer in production. Via instant messenger on Dec 16 2022 I answered all their questions and was told by Audi USA they would get back to me on in 2-3 days. I have heard nothing from them. When you try and call the hold times are 3. 5-5 hours. No warning signs that the unit was failing other than the radio would turn on and off. It would not stay on long enough to reset tire pressure etc. . . After they inspected it it no longer turns on at all. My car is a 2013 Audi S4 that has had all the required maintenance performd by Audi. It has 50k miles on it. Well taken care of. I was told by shannon l newell that the part is no longer made. I could search a junk yard to find the part and they will put it in at a cost of $283. 50. She also said it sucked that they no longer make the part. I asked if the entire system could be replaced I was told no as she kinda laughed at my question. I asked about the safety of my car now and again she just stated that it sucked for me.

17 Electrical System problem of the 2014 Audi S4

Failure Date: 01/23/2021

My 2014 Audi S4 has a epc light that keeps turning on while driving that car. The epc light will put the car into limp mode and will have a rough idle and can barley drive. When that light turns on you have to pull over immediately and restart the car to continue driving and is a complete safety hazard because it will happen when you are on the freeway. The light mainly turns on when you are trying to get up to speeds of the flow of traffic. I have taken it to the dealer many times to get this issue resolved and they keep saying there is no issue with the car what's so ever. I decided to try to figure out what was wrong with the car myself because the dealer was no help. When I look it up hundreds of forums show up talking about it and no one can figure out what is going on with the car and everyone is having the same issue and how the dealer is no help at all. One person said they took it to the dealer and there was a faulty wire on the ecu. I think its the ecu failing and doesn't know what to do.

Failure Date: 10/23/2019

My car flashed gearbox malfunction while driving down interstate I-264 in louisville ky. Car seamed fine for about 2 miles and then suddenly went limp and I had no gears. Had to hit flashers and coast into median. Was almost hit by semi truck. Repair shop could not find anything wrong. Happened again 1 day after getting it back from shop. Taking it to Audi now. I have read that this is a common problem.

21 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Audi S4

Failure Date: 05/30/2019

It happened again today driving down the highway going up to speed, at about 50 mph I got a "gearbox malfunction" error message in the cluster and it would not let me accelerate anymore, it was like the car was in neutral and pressing the accelerator pedal would just rev up the engine. The mechatronics unit on these vehicles are faulty, I know 2 other S4 owners with the years of 2011 and 2012 who also had their mechatronics fail on their S4. Along with the gearbox malfunction error also comes "parking brake error" who knows what in the world can happen when that message comes up. Is it going to suddenly apply the electronic parking brake going 50-70 mph down the highway and cause a possibility of a very bad accident? the repair is very pricey for the mechatronic unit that goes bad, it is no coincidence many of these S4 models have these go bad.

22 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Audi S4

Failure Date: 05/29/2019

Vehicle was in motion, the mechatronics unit on my car is failing and just many many other vehicles of the same make, model, and year. The vehicle can stop engaging gears at any speed and can be very dangerous at any speed, especially on the highway.

23 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Audi S4

Failure Date: 08/09/2018

Gearbox malfunction and tpms malfunction while driving on the road within the city about 45mph I felt a slight jerk and immediately following the warnings came on in the dashboard "tire pressure! system malfunction" & "gearbox malfunction: no reverse gear (you can continue driving)" throttle response was off and forced me to immediately puller over! while stopped I re-started the vehicle and the warnings went away, I sat there for a couple minutes and then continued driving. Few miles down the road the vehicle jerked again and warnings came back on, I needed to get to work so I continued driving; the car would take very long to shift gears and it would jump from 1st to 3rd, from 3rd to 5th and 5th to 7th gear jerking kind of violently every-time and throttle response between shifts was very lethargic to the point that the vehicle would slow down severely and I felt unsafe due to cars getting really close to my rear and them having to slow down drastically while the car shifted gears. Due to the number of complaints I strongly feel that Audi should be liable and held accountable for all repairs necessary and accidents that this issue can cause. If this issue would of presented itself while traveling at 75mph on the highway I believe it could of been a case of life & death. Audi is putting the people driving their vehicles and others around at risk by not recalling an unit or units known to cause problems.

24 Electrical System problem of the 2012 Audi S4

Failure Date: 05/18/2018

While driving in traffic, my car dropped into lower gears and stopped moving, and two error codes popped up "gearbox malfunction" and "tpms malfunction". Looking this up online and discussing with my mechanic, this is something happening in a lot of the cars that are this make & model and have the same transmission.

I have a complaint Audi S4 and other Audi cars have the same issue as I'm having you can be driving on the main road or on the highway and all of a sudden the car loses power and excelleration . I found that as a problem to the safety of me and the other people that have the same car model.

26 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Audi S4

Failure Date: 04/13/2017

Just bought the car 1 month ago and I got a gearbox malfunction. Car does not want to reverse. It jerks from 1st-2nd gear, and it also jumps forward when km trying to stop. Its a safety concern for me ans my family. Its a common problem with the 2010 Audi S4's dsg transmission. Audi of America should be replacing these at no cost.

27 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Audi S4

Failure Date: 04/07/2017

When driving in regular drive box indicator comes on. Saying gearbox malfunction limited function. I only have 63125 miles and keep my car maintenance.

28 Electrical System problem of the 2011 Audi S4

Failure Date: 04/19/2016

Dsg mechatronic failure. Was replaced under cpo warranty. However problem persists. While driving car goes into neutral with tpms + gearbox malfunction. This is a known problem with Audi S4 2010 and 2011.

30 Electrical System problem of the 2011 Audi S4

Failure Date: 09/22/2015

After turning my car on a gearbox malfunction warning appeared but said I could continue driving. After driving the message and service light eventually went off with everything going back to normal. The car appears to have a very common mechatronic unit issue that is part of the faulty dsg that Audi has put in the b8 S4 model.

31 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Audi S4

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

I just happened to look up recalls and saw the complaints on the Audi S4 2001. I noticed my car wasn't the only one where the instrument cluster has lost pixels and ends up unreadable for all warnings and manufacturer programmed safety warnings. It has been like this for years and did ask my dealer how much it would cost to fix it and it was insane. It is a real safety issue. Audi should be responsible for fixing it. I didn't realize other Audi's were having the same issue. Maybe if more people complain, Audi will be forced to fix it.

32 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Audi S4

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

The check engine light, epc light, and stability control system light illuminate on the dashboard. The engine goes into what could be described as safe mode. Regardless of how far down you push on the accelerator, the vehicle will be slow to accelerate and at speeds at or above 75 mph may not accelerate or even maintain highway speed. I have taken my vehicle to two different Audi dealerships. Audi sent one technical field manager to inspect my vehicle. I have completed numerous repairs at the recommendation of the dealerships. None of the repairs have solved the issue.

33 Electrical System problem of the 2006 Audi S4

Failure Date: 12/24/2011

While driving, the right headlight flickered and went off (hid lights). The information system registered an error "dipped right headlight" head light comes on when ever the car is started, and goes out with the same error again at a later time. So far this error has occurred the last 3 times I have driven (all three times since first occurence). This is a safety issue since night illumination is involved. I have read on internet Audi websites that this is an all too common problem, that Audi of America is not taking seriously as far as offering a clear solution.

34 Electrical System problem of the 2006 Audi S4

Failure Date: 01/29/2011

Audi 2006 S4, there is a more frequent occurance of my "headlights dipping" my xenon headlamps will stop working while driving, it would either be the left or the right, but not until lastweek when both went out at the same time. I would put car in neutral while driving and turn car off and back on and it will reset itself and lights will then work, it seems to stop occuring when car is warmed up and it is worse with colder weather and vibration or bad roads. It will occasionally occur when car is even warm well after 30 minutes, I am now concerned because last week both went out at the same time, that had never happened before, it was always one or the other, it has happened for the past 18 months or so. Audi has no answer, they have erroneously replaced working xenon lights, ballasts, etc and it continues to occur to many individuals that I read up on in Audi forums. Frequency is now each and every time I start car and get going literally feet to less than a block. When it first started, it was once a couple of weeks, then once a week, to once every couple of days, to now each and every time at least a couple of times until warm. I am in colder climate, detroit, mi.

35 Electrical System problem of the 2005 Audi S4

Failure Date: 07/27/2010

Car started misfiring and within less than 5 miles in the highway then started to build up smoke inside the cabin, car then stopped and towed to a mechanics who confirm the diagnosis of misfiring of 3 cylinders and found overheating of the passenger side catalytic converter that lead to a melting a connector of the transmission.
