32 problems related to air bag have been reported for the 2000 BMW 323. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I was driving normally, and made a right hand turn onto a street when the driver door airbag and driver curtain airbag deployed suddenly. The engine shut off and the hazards turned on automatically, and I pulled off the road to a safe location. I was able to restart the engine to bring the vehicle onto the tow truck. As far as I am aware there was no impact, and the outside of the car is not damaged. I am able to see some other NHTSA reports of this random deployment happening with other 3 series models, specifically 2000 model year vehicles like mine. I am unsure of what caused this, I can only assume a faulty sensor is the cause.

There is an airbag recall and its nearly a year where BMW is saying they are waiting on parts. I think that is ridiculous. I couldn't tell them I am waiting on money to pay them. There is no actual incident. This is just a complaint. Thanks.

Air bags deployed while vehicle was in motion. Recall for vehicle airbags in effect, however my situation was found to be unrelated to the recall. I advise the recall be re-investigated to include spontaneous air bag deployment.

On July 1, 2009 recall repairs were made at united BMW roswell, GA for a recalled airbag module. A week later my 2000 BMW 323i was parked and all of a sudden the front airbags deploy. The dealership was notified and a tow truck was sent to pickup and return the vehicle to the dealership. After a day of diagnostic work on the car the dealership states the car was involved in front end collision. BMW north America was notified after diagnostic test and is currently being "investigated". . . .

The dealer stated that this failure usually didn't occur after the vehicle has been repaired. The contact spoke to an air bag engineer ,who also stated that this type of failure should not occur if the vehicle was less than 10 years old. The contact was the owner at the time the vehicle was repaired and wasn't notified that the recall repair was done. The contact stated that the repairs were at her own expense. The current and failure mileage were 16,000.
