Takata recall while pulling out of a store on a smooth surface the passenger side air bag just exploded with my grand daughter in the back seat in a car seat. The car filled with smoke like material. I've read many complaints of this happening but the dealer says it is not a recall.
Ran over a curb going about 15 mph, passenger side airbag deployed.
I received a vehicle recall from BMW in September 2014 for my driver side airbag. My vehicle was purchased from momentum BMW of houston ( 713-5963400). I heard nothing further and in Nov 2014 called momentum BMW. I was told they knew nothing of the recall but they took my name, VIN and data. On December 12th I stopped by their dealership and went to the service department. I was now told that no parts were available for my repair because I had not come in to have them ordered. So I went through this process - providing once again, address, VIN contact information etc. I was told I would be notified when I could come in and have the airbag replaced. Now on March 6th I have still not been contacted and after 4 telephone call attempts have been unable to talk to anyone in their service department. I left a voice message for their service manager to contact me. So in short, 6 months after being notified by BMW (in writing) that my car needs a passenger side air bag replacement the responsible BMW service department has never contacted me. I am sending in this notification as instructed on my written letter - "if your BMW center is unable to remedy the defect without charge or within a reasonable period of time, notify the administrator, national highway traffic safety administration.
The contact owns a 1999 BMW 323i. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph over a road bump, the passenger's side air bag deployed inadvertently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they advised that the failure occurred because the suspension was an aftermarket component. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and advised that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 02v223000 (air bags). The failure mileage was 139,000.

The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 02v223000 (air bags: side window) but was told by the manufacturer that the recall was closed and that the vehicle was never included in the recall campaign. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure and the current mileages were 198,000. Kmj.
The contact owns a 1999 BMW 323. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the driver side airbag and curtain air bag deployed erroneously. The contact was able to safely bring the vehicle to a stop. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer and the manufacturer stated that the air bags deployed due to gravel interfering with the system and the age of the vehicle. The dealer advised that certain issues were to be expected as the vehicle aged. The failure and the current mileages were 167,000.
The contact owns a 1999 BMW 323i. While driving, the drivers side (door panel and curtain) air bags deployed without any warning. The dealer was not notified and the manufacturer made the contact aware of the NHTSA campaign id number: 02v223000 (air bags:side/window) recall, but the VIN was not a part of the recall. The failure mileage was 140,970 and the current mileage was 141,000.
We were driving down sepulveda blvd. In los angeles, CA at 7:30 pm. We believe we hit a pothole at 35 mph. There was no damage to the tires or wheels, but the side impact curtain airbag on our 1999 BMW 323i suddenly deployed. We researched recalls on our vehicle. We found the following: NHTSA campaign id number: 02v223000 summary: on certain 4-door passenger vehicles, the side air bag system could deploy in certain non-crash impacts, such as when contacting large potholes or curbs at substantial speeds. Consequence: this could cause the side air bag and head protection system to deploy without an actual side crash or impact severe enough to cause significant visible damage to the vehicle. Unexpected deployment of the side air bag could cause serious injury if the occupant's head is resting near the side air bag. Remedy: dealers will recalibrate the central air bag control module to reduce the possibility of such a non-crash deployment. Owner notification began October 25, 2002. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact BMW at 1-800-831-1117. We contacted BMW at the above 800 number. We were told that based on our VIN # that we were not a part of the recall. Being that our car is the same year, make and model of the car in the recall, and that the exact consequence did occur, it seems odd that BMW is saying that we are not a part of the recall. Now, BMW wants thousands of dollars to fix the problem, which in all appearances is a manufacturer fault.
Slid into a curb after hitting loose gravel on a corner - both driver's side airbags blew. Car still completely drivable other than a messed up messed up tire and a curbed rim.
I have a 1998bmw 323is and I recently met with an accident on Sunday 9/13/2009. My friend was driving my car and it crashed very badly. The whole front portion is gone and car is reusable. What surprises me is the airbags never came out. Only the side airbag(drivers side) just cameout1/2. Is this what happens in a crash?how can I trust cars in the crash?.

Greeting, I have been in possession of my 1999 BMW 323i for 11 years. I made the purchase oversees through the military BMW sales program. I had the vehicle maintenance by BMW highly trained technicians since year 2000. The car was service at BMW in 2007 for the heating & air condition compressor (hvac) and BMW was informed about the airbag indicator light. We informed BMW on many service visits prior to the 2007 service visit and after 2007 that the airbag indicator light constantly comes on when either conducting normal driving on approved roads or on one occasion when the driver’s door was shut after arriving home from a service visit. On one visit they reset the light without charge and on other service visit they wanted to charge a fee for resetting the airbag indicator light. However, on one service visit BMW said there was nothing they could do to fix the problem. I never receive any notices from BMW informing me that there was a problem with the airbag system. I assumed that taking the vehicle for service that all problems was identified by BMW allowing the customers to determine the repair decision. On or about 03 Aug 08, the head airbag deployed while conducting normal driving on an approved hard ball road. After taking the car in for service and informing BMW about the airbag indicator light, they replied that there was nothing they could do to resolve the problem. As a result the airbag indicator light was on prior to the deployment. The car has been disabled for 4 months pending a decision on repair cost of $9000.
The contact owns a 2000 BMW 3231. While driving approximately 50-55 mph, the side air bags deployed for no apparent reason. The contact's left arm was bruised. The vehicle will be taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The current and failure mileages were 140,000.
(1) I was driving my 2000 BMW 323i on a feeder road, at about 40 mph. The car has approximately 69,000 miles. (2) the side airbags (driver's side) unexpectedly deployed with no apparent reason (no collision, no road bumps). The engine automatically cut off and emergency lights automatically went on. I was able to restart the car, drive it home, and avoid being hit by other cars. (3) I checked the NHTSA website and apparently there had been a recall in 2002 on 2000 BMW 323i for this very reason. However, I never received a recall notice from the maker despite the fact that I have always religiously taken the car to BMW dealers for oil change and repairs, and despite BMW has my address since it regularly mails advertisements to my residence. The next day I took the car at the local BMW dealer for repairs and asked about the recall. They told me that based on the VIN, my car was not among those involved in the 2002 recall. They also told me that they were unsure as to weather BMW would own the defect and pay for repairs since the car is out of warranty. Thus, I got my insurance involved to get a second opinion on the problem. I am still waiting on a solution of this issue.
: the contact stated while driving 35 mph on dry even roads, the left side curtain air bag and the small elbow air bag deployed without warning. The contact was taken to a hospital, where it was determined that the injuries incurred were bruising on the left arm, head contusions, and hearing damage. There was a police report taken, and the vehicle was taken to a service dealer, where the dealer stated that the deployment of the air bag was due to the vehicle possibly hitting a pothole in the road. The manufacturer was also notified, who denied that there were any problems with the year, make, and model of the vehicle. There was a NHTSA recall # 02v223000, which pertains to the side air bags. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN.
Drivers door was impacted at approx. 50 mph and neither side airbag or side curtain deployed resulting in a very serious left hip fracture, collapsed lung and numerous lacerations.

While driving on a well paved road at approximately 40 to 45 mph two airbags suddenly deployed.
Side and head airbags deployed from hitting a pothole at low speed. There was no damage to vehicle. The car is a 2000 323i BMW purchased in August, 1999. Consumer states while driving in inclement weather the vehicle began to slide and hit a curb on the drivers side, the passenger side air bag deployed but the drivers side air bag did not ( claim # 13-7252-037).

Consumer states while driving, the vehicle hit a pot hole causing slight damage to the rim and causing the passenger side air bag to deploy (claim # 22-v458-012).
The side airbag recall 02v223000 was remedied on 11/4/02. On 11/11/02, while driving, the side air bag deployed without warning. The dealer repaired and replaced. In 06/03 the air bag warning light illuminated again. Consumer was very concerned about the integrity of the vehicle's air bag system. On three separate occasions the srs light had come. The dealer stated it was defective and replaced it. While the vehicle was in motion, the passenger side srs and head protection airbag deployed due to the crash sensor being triggered and caused debris to fill the cabin, the first time the srs light had come on the dealer suggested the seat belt had a faulty latch, and the second time they claimed there was a short.
