On Tuesday June 20, 2023 at 7:20am I was awakened by my neighbor who informed me that my car was on fire. A report was done by the fire department and they did not believe it was done on purpose but something with my car. My car was totally consumed with fire nothing but ashes.

The door locks stop working periodically where only the drivers door will unlock with the key. At that time, the rear and passenger doors will not unlock with the remote or the button in the center console or by pulling on the door release inside the doors. The BMW usually unlocks the door with the first pull and then opens with the second, but when this is happening, the door release (door handle) on the inside does nothing. This results in only the drivers door opening and I have to reach back over the seats to unbuckle my kids and then pull them out over the back of the drivers seat. So long as we start outside the car, it just makes the back seats unusable. But if I lock the doors while the kids are in the car while driving and this happens, we get into the scary/freaky situation. I verified the child safety locks aren't engaged for the doors that disable the interior door handles/releases. I don't know what causes this to happen, it just happens periodically and then goes away with nothing I can see as a cause. I have video of this happening, but the file formats listed do not include videos.

Fuel tank strap brackets completely broken off at the weld points. Fuel tank hanging off bottom of car.
Drivers window is stuck in up position. When raise/lower switch is activated, I hear the motor running but window does not move down. The local BMW repair center said it will be $150 to inspect the problem and then $$$ to repair. The malfunction of the window happened while I was driving.
Door actuator failure. Driver side door will not open from outside unless you use the physical key, will not open from inside once it locks and you must climb over seat to exit back or passenger doors. Sometimes door will unlock if you roll down the window and use the key on the outside lock but usually that does not work. Serious safety issue, you could be trapped inside the car in an emergency. Doors lock automatically at 5 mph or so and you are locked inside with a handle that does not work.

BMW 325xi 2004, after substantial or unreasonable delay in the BMW return, was perceived to be rendered unsafe/unsatisfactory/incomplete, with airbag defects/spillover effects, or released with known defects to the vehicle that put the driver and unsuspecting occupants at risk of serious bodily injury up to death. BMW was to send a 'consent form', then vehicle owner was to review/sign/return, BMW would then order 'interim airbag' parts, and repair. The consent form was not received or signed, June 2016, BMW enter/repair without authorization, or signed consent forms, and made unknown changes to the airbag/systems. The toxins remain has corroded it or released toxins/odor. The vehicle was on a 'cease & desist' airbag repair pending the receipt and execution of the consent form as agreed. BMW failed to make the repairs per quote and airbag [I. E. Explosive device; sodium azide azium; shrapnel, etc. ] was left in an unsafe state. The vehicle needs an inspection by NHTSA, as it is believed to be contaminated or corroded, by unknown toxins (I. E sodium azide or azium?). Persons exposed have contacted cdc/poison center who stated that persons not have further contact with BMW till inspected? see claim 10881628 for same/similar background. The owners were subjected to foreseeable toxins, from the airbag defects/recalls/ unauthorized repairs to the BMW, pending a "consent form", and has resulted in injury or medical care or poison control center consultations. The toxins had a 'sharp odor', overwhelming as reported, and exposure resulted in damages to persons or property, awaiting estimates to be completed. Importantly, exposure to sodium azide can be fatal and the vehicle needs an inspection by NHTSA or dot. If you do not inspect unsafe vehicles, with perceived safety concerns, please provide a referral or preferred source due to the serious public health and safety issues.
Tl- the contact owns a 2003 BMW 325i. The contact stated that the key failed to unlock every door. In addition, the locking mechanism switch failed to unlock the doors while inside of the vehicle. The vehicle was unlocked through the window of the vehicle manually. The front passenger side door was the only door that would not unlock manually. The battery warning indicator illuminated. The failure was intermittent. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 116,000. The VIN was not available. Djr.
The vapor barrier in the door leaks during rain. The floor of the car gets very wet.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 BMW 325i. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph, there was a burning odor, black smoke started to roll out over the dashboard, the vehicle was filled with smoke. The fire was coming from underneath the steering wheel, the doors was locked, the windshield was busted, the wiring burned severely, warning indicators illuminated. The fire department was notified, the vehicle was totaled, the manufacturer was notified, the approximate failure mileage was 137,000. Rw.
When inside, all doors of the vehicle would not open with either the handles, the internal lock/unlock button, or the unlocking mechanism on the key fob. Stopping and starting the vehicle and moving it a few yards stopped the problem. This happened a second time and the BMW dealer diagnosed it as a faulty control module. They did not consider this a safety hazard despite the fact that it would prevent exiting the car in case of emergency.
Remote unlocking/locking will not function. Doors can not be opened or unlocked from inside vehicle with central lock switch or with door handle, trapping passengers inside. The drivers window must be rolled down and key used to unlock driver side door to exit vehicle. Climbing out of windows or climbing to drivers seat is the only way out of car, BMW states "not a safety issue".
After completing a trip of approximately 25 miles coming into a parking spot and bringing vehicle to a stop the vehicle was shut off. Driver was able to egress out of vehicle without issue, passenger door was unable to be opened. Door remained locked with seemingly no mechanical link to door latch. Driver attempted to open door from outside, also unable to do so. Passenger had to egress vehicle through drivers door, passenger door unable to open despite repeated use of unlock button on center console and unlock feature on keyless entry. Automatic locking on drive off locked doors, occupants were unable to unlock or open door by any means.
Door locks stopped working, couldn't get in or out of car or open the gas door. Replaced fuse #57 and now 3 of 4 locks are working. After doing online research I've found this this is a very common problem on these cars and it is unsafe as I would not have been able to get out of the car if there was an emergency. It seems that this problem is so common that it would warrant a recall.
I was driving in the center lane and a cement truck was driving in the right lane about one car lengths ahead of me when some fell off of his truck and hit my hood, putting a hole through it. It then hit the passenger side panel, mirror and metal piece between the windshield and the passenger window. I tried for a minimum of 5 miles to get the driver to pull over to no avail. I think he may have been drinking because when he changed lanes he would use the wrong turn signal. Left lane change he used the right signal and vice versa. We could not find the piece that hit my car but it was greasy, because I had grease at every damaged area.
I was parking and turned off the car and was not able to open the driver's side door. Usually I just need to pull the handle twice and it opens but this time it would not open. I tried the electric remote to unlock the doors and it did not affect the locks. I tried the passenger door and it did not open either. I had to exit the car from the back doors. I determined a fuse was blown and replaced the 15a fuse with a 20a fuse as recommended by the BMW forum and it now works fine. The concern is if I had to exit the car from the front doors, I would have been trapped.
Door locks do not operate correctly. When unlocking vehicle with the remote key fob, the doors attempt to unlock but do not. When inside the vehicle, passengers are unable to exit the vehicle and must exit through the window. If an accident/fire occurs, all passengers will be stuck in vehicle.
My door lock actuator failed in the garage and I have not been able to open the doors either from outside or inside. It would have been dangerous if this had happened when the vehicle was occupied and there was an accident.
Windshield molding disintegrating into pieces , defective material - can cause the windshield to break or come loose.
While driving approximately 30 mph on a residential street I begin hearing a noise that sounded like something dragging from the rear passenger side of the vehicle. I pulled the car over and observed that the strap that holds the gas tank up, was hanging down from one end. I then drove approximately 1/2 mile to an automotive repair shop and upon further inspection, it was determined that the weld on the front bracket of the gas tank strap had broken and detached from the frame. This caused the gas tank to sag to within about 4 inches from the ground. I am the original owner of this vehicle and have maintained it well. I have read numerous BMW owners have experienced this exact problem.
The contact owns a 2006 BMW 325xi. The contact stated that he was unable to open any of the vehicle doors, other than the driver side, by using the key fob or manually. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that one of the lock mechanisms was defective and the sensor was not strong enough as a result both the lock mechanism and sensor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 76,000. Updated 06/06/12 the consumer stated the same failure occurred to the fuel door, rendering him unable to fuel the car. Updated 06/07/12.
The contact owns a 2006 BMW 325i. The contact stated that all four doors locks failed by use of the key and the remote. Various times I have experienced intermittent issues with my tail lights. I get warnings on my instrument panel but when I check the bulbs they are not burned out. On October 17, 2011, los angeles police pulled me over notifying me that my tail lights were not working. We checked the bulbs and fuses but they were ok. We found that when you slightly touch the harness of the taillight socket that is inside the body panel, the lights go on and off. I did some online research and found that this is a common issue with this model car, BMW e46. On Saturday January 21 I went to santa monica BMW. They said it was not a common issue. Today I just learned about recent NHTSA campaign id number 11v438000. This recall addresses the issues I have been having. However, it is only for models manufactured after September 2001. My vehicle was built in July 2001 but uses the same harness and body panel assembly that has prompted the recall for models built in September 2001. Thus, I believe my vehicle should be recalled as well. Please advise. Thanks in advance.
