Driving 65mph in highway when engine turned off. Safely pulled over. Restarted. Drove another 5 miles, engine turns off again. Restarted. Instrument panel had reset except clock and odometer. Following day car started and ran. While making a left turn in local road, the engine turned off, steering locked, almost hitting another vehicle which was turning right.

Steering wheel lock causing the car not to start,.
110000 miles. 2007 BMW 328i. Sterring wheel lock fault. Car will not start and wheel will not turn. This is a "common" issue with this car. This should be a recall issue.
I was out with my kids and went to park at the restaurant and when I turned off my car a steering wheel lock sign in red popped up on the dash. This was the first time I had seen this, so I turned the car back on and kept flashing. I took the manuel out to see what this was and it was the steering wheel lock. Well I figured ok I will read more about it after I had dinner with my kids. I had forgotten about it after dinner so I get in my car just like normal and then I see the red sign still. Went home and the light is still on. I had been searching for this online and I have seen so many other people with this problem. I'm afraid to drive my car now since it's what I use to take my kids to school and pick them up. I just hope the dealer can fix this since this is the first time I have seen it. It never even went from yellow to red it was just red.
While driving the car, it loses power completely and the engine shuts off. This has happened several times while driving on the freeway at high speed. It is a very dangerous situation, as the car quickly decelerates and power steering no longer works. I have been incredibly lucky to be able to get to the side of the highway after losing power each time (it has happened on the freeway 5 times now). The car will not start after it loses power and puts up a random check engine error. Sometimes, after sitting for a period of time, it will start up, but this seems to be completely random, as it happens sometimes, but not always. I have taken the vehicle to BMW several times now and they have replaced several parts and assured me it is fixed, but it keeps happening. I am now very concerned for my family's safety. I realize the car is a 2009 model, and it has a little over 100,000 miles on it, but this type of power loss should not be happening over and over again, especially when it has been taken to the BMW dealer. I have specified the last incident in the "when did this happen" question below, but the problem started about 6 weeks ago.

Had several recalls sent but everytime I contact and took my car . BMW stated that parts are not in. Been 2 years, so I was still paying and then told until get get fixed. No payments will be made on a car they knew was a safety hazard and did not for 2 years. Took car again in 2/2017. Same answer. Now they want to take care and charge me due to their lack to service my BMW , which is a safety hazard to drive.

During normal cruise, the yellow steering lock appeared randomly once. . . . Pulling in to the driveway of my home the steering locked in a fix position. I was going less than 5 mph, maintain control but almost impacted my home. In doing research on this fault, there are a lot of complaints regarding the random results of steering wheel lock on BMW vehicles. I believe that if I was not behind the wheel of this car, it could have had very negative results ( if my wife or daughter were driving-and could have cause injury to others or property). BMW needs to take ownership of these faults that have the potencial to loose control of the vehicle while in motion, and when not in motion the ridiculous amount of charges the company wants to pass to consumers for a potential faulty design or quality deficiency that can cause injury or worse.
Since I got this car my oil was leaking. I had to replace the val cover. I can't remember how much that cost me. My steering lock module was replaced and it cost me 1,181. 07. I had my belt tensioner replaced because it was bent. It cost me $327. 04. This was done 3/6/2015. A recall on srs air bag. I still have the air bag warning light. BMW recommended to replace of exhaust lifters and roller drag levers with updated unit to eliminate ticking noise at idle which will cost me 1,466. 40. I need to replace alternator, belt, battery and the car won't start. I fixed the battery problem and as I was driving to work and parked the car would not start. My battery connection need to be replace. Common issue with all BMW. I will spend about 1,518. 7 to fix the problem.
While driving the car the car gave me an elv lock error and locked the steering wheel.
In models equipped with a heated steering wheel, the steering wheel thermostat very occassionally malfunctions and overheats. It becomes very hot, almost too hot to touch and potentially causing burns. It appears power cycling the switch several times can resolve the issue temporarily. However, it still can take several minutes to cool down to a safe operating temperature. Obviously, this can become very dangerous when operating a vehicle, especially at highway speeds.
Abs and break light is on and been on since 2016. A lot of BMW owners are having the same problem also. There is also a warning light that comes on when this abs light comes on. Also reads dbc malfunction.
Wheel sterring lock malfunction, essentially there steering no longer works and car shuts down.
"seat-belt light/takata recall, it seems that my VIN number is not listed among the vehicles recalled but my airbag lights have been coming on and off as well as seatbelt lights and I believe that the two systems are linked and should be investigated for security reasons, the lights came on as the vehicle was in slow motion as I was attempting to park. I would like to have the parts replaced, especially if the airbags are manufactured by takata or another manufacturer.
Steering wheel lock is on. It appears this is a known issue. This is a safety issue. The car can stall or in case of an attack, a person cant get away. I walked to my vehicle one day and it was on, with no warning. It was never yellow. Went straight to red. Never seen it before.
After parking at store steering wheel lock displayed on car dash board and vehicle will not start.
Takata recall on December 25, 2015 at approximately 5:20 a. M. My 2010 328i BMW skidded off hwy 99 southbound going towards lax. Vehicle skidded as caused by the black ice on road, resulting in us crashing into the left guard rail. My mother and I felt the entire impact of vehicle . I, as the driver, hit my head on the driver side window causing severe whiplash and a sprained neck. I had to crawl out of the vehicle because I was trapped inside, due to impact of crash being on the left side of vehicle. Once chp arrived, my car was towed off the hwy. The BMW's airbags did not deploy at the time of impact causing me severe neck and head injuries. I was traveling 65 mph, no higher than speed limit. Want to know why airbags did not deploy and if my neck and head injuries could have been avoided . I have hospital documents if necessary.

"takata recall" I have a complaint filed regarding an electrical issue I had with my vehicle which resulted in a motor vehicle crash (NHTSA id number: 10781956. My car was equipped with takata airbags, 4 of 6 airbags deployed. The airbag from the driver side caused injuries to my face and arm. I received a recall letter from BMW 4 months after the accident that resulted in the need for physical therapy due to the injuries to my arm and shoulder from the impact of the airbag, which also cut my forearm. The steering wheel on my vehicle froze while driving and in my attempt to get the wheel to turn, my brakes also failed. I had both arms covering the wheel to try and get it to budge. The only way my vehicle stopped was because I crashed into a car waiting at the opposite light. Both arms were covering the airbag at the time it deployed.
Bolt securing serpentine belt tensioner assembly against engine block broke off . The belt tensioner assembly also broke. The serpentine belt completely came off rendering vehicle undriveable. Happened when vehicle was stationary. Vehicle was towed to repair shop.
After, I parked my car in the garage. (nothing out of the ordinary, daily routine, normal conditions). My car wouldn't start. It displayed a "power steering wheel locked" icon warning when I tried to start the ignition. The ignition spark wasnt there. The lights also dimmed as I tried to get started.
I lost all steering in my car.
I parked on my drive way normally with everything fine. The next day when trying to turn the car on, it wouldn't start and it gave me a steering wheel lock issue.
Steering wheel is locked and can't start the vehicle. I see now that I'm not the only one to deal with this now.
Everything was fine. I hadn't noticed any changes except the cruise control would shut off by itself. Then I needed a jump and it took right away. The next time I needed a jump it wouldn't take. Took the battery to autozone and had it checked and it was fine. So realized it wasnt the battery. Id try to start the car but nothing happens not even a clicking noice nothing. But the lights still came on windows still rolled down radio even worked it just wouldn't start.
Steering wheel lock sign keeps appearing and locking me out of the car. This has happened 4 times in the last two weeks and has left me stranded every time and 3 of the times a tow truck was unable to reach my car to tow it. I have had it at the dealer for a week now and the sign has not popped up for them so they say they can not do anything. When I dropped off the car to them after being stuck for 45 min, as soon as I parked it at BMW the service woman tried to go into it and start it and it showed the sign. The service team has been unable to diagnose the problem. So I am pick up the car today with nothing that has been done to it and it will most likely happen again in the next couple of days since it will be driven normally.
Passenger airbag seat pad does not detect. Steering wheel lock fault both these problems have been recalled on other vehicles of same models same year but not mine. Both problems have occurred on my vehicle and I refuse to py to get it fixed when others get there covered with a recall.
I was pressing on my brake to slow down for a red light and I heard a loud thump from under the hood near the right side. As soon as I got to the stop light, my car started to rattle and vibrate violently. I pulled over and turned off the ignition and started my car and the car wasn't rattling anymore. As soon as I put it into reverse, it started to rattle again and did the same when I put it in drive. The vibrating goes away as soon as I start driving, and is only noticed when idled while in drive or reverse. I had someone come check it out and was told he needed to do further inspection at his shop. He inspected it and told me some bolts broke from the engine mount and the loud thump was from my engine dropping onto the air conditioning.
Steering wheel lock displayed on car dash board. It will not start and car had to be towed to dealership. I have found several complaints of this same issue online. BMW needs to pay for this issue I will never buy another BMW the rest of my life. Please check into this.
Upon trying to start car, control message came on said steering wheel locked, engine will not start. Turn wheel to start engine. This did not work, many tries!. Car is not running. In checking the internet, for a solution, I find many with the same complaint for the same model & even year BMW. Something sounds fishy. There was just a recall on the 3 series for some short involving fuse box to back of car written up in my local newspaper. BMW said my car is not involved. Could these two issues be related? I have maintained my car per recommended schedule! BMW of north America said the wheel lock problem is not warranteed nor is it a recall issue. Sounds like too many people having this same problem for this not to be a defect that should be fixed by BMW at no charge to the customer. Please investigate and advise!.
As I was driving home from work one evening, my 2008 BMW 328i coupe began acting strange. The interior overhead lights as well as most all of the dashboard lights (radio, hazard button, on-board computer etc. ) began to flicker accompanied by a ticking noise in sequence with the flickering. The vehicle was acting as though it was about to shut down; that's when I decided to pull over. As I pulled off of the road, the steering became more difficult and the flickering became more frequent. While coming to a stop (travelling at about 10mph), the vehicle completely shut off. I lost complete control of vital mechanisms such as steering, power, lighting (both interior and exterior). The brake pedal felt unusually firm/stiff (not spongy or soft as it should feel). At this point, the vehicle had completely shut down with the gear selector still in "drive". I attempted to re-start the vehicle but it failed to start. I had my vehicle towed back to my apartment and the following day, I took it to a reputable, independent BMW mechanic. His diagnosis was that something related to the vehicle's battery, power supply system/electrical system circuitry was faulty--which in turn, killed the starter. He replaced the battery with a new oem battery as well as replaced the starter with an new oem starter and the related wiring/circuitry. A few weeks later, I received a recall notice in the mail-- March 2013 recall no. 13v-044 : power supply system. Because the symptoms noted in the recall letter match those I experienced identically, I am seeking reimbursement for the cost of repair that correlates to this issue. However, BMW states it will only reimburse the cost of repair pertaining to the single part at fault/recalled. The cause of this recall is known, but they are failing to reimburse customers for the damaging effects that the faulty/recalled part may have had on other components.
A red steering wheel and lock appeared on the dash of my 2007 328xi which displays "steering wheel lock" alert and reads that the car should not be turned off or engine may fail to start. This appears to be an ongoing issue with this model which is quite expensive to fix. The manufacturer should be held responsible to fix this known defect as it is quite common in this model and there are many similar complaints regarding the same issue.
I was driving on free way around 65-70 mph, suddenly the car lost control, veering, jerking, steering wheel lost control.
The contact owns a 2012 BMW 328i. While driving approximately 40 mph, there was a complete loss of power steering with an illumination of the power steering warning indicator. The contact applied significant force to the steering wheel in order to maneuver the wheel. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road where the engine was turned off. Upon restarting, the steering wheel functioned normally with the warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection where they advised the contact that the battery was low voltage. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 5,000.

I was driving the car and the electronic steering wheel lock icon came up on the dash panel. It kept giving the warning that the steering wheel will lock and if I turn the car off and I won't be able to crank it. I drove it home and when I turned the car off, I was able to crank it back up and had no problem with steering in test drive, but I will have to visit my local BMW repair shop tomorrow. I have known other BMW owner's who says this has happened to them more than once and I found a lot of the same problems on the internet forums. I am wondering if this is a defect in the BMW 328i models because I have been told that the steering wheel could also lock if a person was driving, also. I am filing this complaint, hoping that any subsequent investigation by the NHTSA will reveal any safety issue with this known defect.
Red warning light steering problem stop car immediately. BMW and internet states this was common problem $1800+ to fix I had extended warrantee but it stil cost me approx $600.
