40 problems related to warning light on have been reported for the 2006 BMW 330. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2021

The vehicle has an unexplained and unrepairable defect related to the main airbag control unit module, BMW part number 65779184432 (current version); believe part 65770394017 applied to my vehicle as-built. The control module generates internal control unit fault code 93d7. Both the airbag warning light and seatbelt light are continuously illuminated. According to dealer technician, the code is locked in and cannot be cleared. Advice provided was that the unit can be replaced and then recoded at estimated cost of approximately $2,000. If a repair can be effectuated with an updated part, then it appears that my car and perhaps all other similarly aged vehicles have a defective main airbag control unit module. A faulty airbag module would be a defect in a critical defect in a safety system's performance that unreasonably increases risk of death or serious injury in an accident. The fault thus poses a risk to motor vehicle safety. Further, based on openly available information, it appears that numerous other vehicles have similar, potentially defective, main airbag control modules. Finally, it appears that BMW updated this part approximately 15 times in a 6-year period, which is about double the update frequency for comparable vehicle--noting that this is based only on my limited review. Regardless, that data suggest that BMW has had some awareness that the airbag control module had performance difficulties. Thank you.

4 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2016

I own a 2006 BMW 330xi. While driving at various speeds, the air bag warning light illuminates. The failure recurs constantly. Also, when seated in the passenger seat, the vehicle does not register anyone in the seat. I have taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was confirmed that the seat occupancy sensor mat failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and I was informed that the vehicle was not included in the NHTSA campaign number: 13v564000 (air bags). The vehicle experiences the exact same failure listed in the recall but my VIN is not included. The approximate failure mileage when the failure started was 53,200. The vehicle now has approximately 110,000 miles and the failure continues to happen.

5 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2016

Air bag and seat belt warning lights (red) came on indicating restraint systemn failure. Batter changed three months ago. Car taken in to shop and system "reset" thinking it was due to the battery being replaced. Both air bag and seat belt warning lights have come back on. My mechanic told me there had been a recall for this problem and suggested I contact dealer. Called BMW of monrovia, CA and was informed that my vehicle id number was not listed for the recall. Since there have been so many complaints listed, should BMW issue a recall before someone is killed and not after a death as usually happens?.

6 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2014

Had a warning light that there was a problem with the airbag system. I took it to momentum BMW in west houston and they replaced the front passenger airbag mat for a cost of $1,199. I researched the internet and discovered a NHTSA 13v564000 campaign. I called BMW customer serivce (800-525-7417) and gave them my VIN #. They said due to problems that had occured with passanger airbags on this model, the warranty had been extended to 10 years under this 13v564000 campaign which started in January 2014. Momentum BMW said they fixed the problem in October 2009 and that the warranty had expired. I think the current problem doesn't relate to what momentum fixed in October 2009, or that the parts that were used were also faulty or defective. I would like BMW to pay for my cost to fix this problem.

10 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2014

Air bag and seat belt warning lights on dash remain lit at all times. Additionally, the "passenger airbag disabled" indicator remains lit at all times. There is a recall campaign (see below) for the passenger seat sensor mat issue which caused these problems, yet apparently not for my VIN. The disabled passenger seat airbag is a major safety issue, and clearly my VIN should be part of the recall. Statement on voluntary recall involving front passenger seat sensor mat on u. S. A. Model Bmws - August 13, 2008 today, BMW announced a voluntary recall regarding the front passenger air bag seat sensor mat involving approximately 200,000 model year 2004-06 vehicles. Affected are certain model year 2006 3-series, model year 2004-06 5-series, and model year 2004-06 x3 vehicles, depending upon seat type. BMW has found that the sensor mat may become damaged during vehicle usage depending upon the manner and frequency of the front passenger's entry and exit.

13 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2013

Front passenger airbag warning light illuminated indicating the airbag system is not working. Investigation revealed a failed passenger seat sensor mat as the cause. Failure is consistent with the failures highlighted in NHTSA campaign 08v384000. BMW north America position is this particular vehicle (VIN) is not included in the recall. This is very troubling. There is a known failure serious enough to warrant a safety recall, however the recall is limited to a very small percentage of the actual vehicles that will experience this failure. Research on this site (and others) confirms this is a known common problem affecting several models and model years of BMW vehicles. Left unfixed, a passenger seated in the front seat will not have the safety benefits of an operable airbag and this could result in unecessary serious injury. My request is for the NHTSA and BMW to expand the safety recall to include all vehicles exhibiting this obvious defect and rectify the possible safety implications this failure presents.

For the listed 2006 BMW e90 330i, the following error message was displayed in the idrive interface. "pass. Restraint system: fault in passenger-restraint system affecting airbag, belt tensioner or belt-force limiter. Restraint system malfunction!" the failure occurred with nothing occupying the passenger seat while travelling approximately 35 mph. There has been a recall for this situation for other 2006 BMW 3-series but according to BMW my VIN is not part of the recall as of 11/20/2012l. 32 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2011

Front passenger safety sensor (oc3 seat mat) had premature failure while driving with passenger. Failure results in dash warning lights illumination as well disablement of passenger air bag. Air bag disablement could have resulted in fatality, system should force the air bag on if sensor fails. Related recall is in affect for similar year models but Bmwna believes this is an unrelated because the seat types are different (sport seat vs. Standard seat). BMW (along with sub component supplier) should fix this problem by extending compensation to all of those who had to voluntarily replace faulty sensors and recalling 2006 330i sport seat owners as well. Safety systems should not fail within the first 40,000 miles of automobile's life. Will provide failed hardware upon request to BMW or NHTSA.
