Equipment Problems of BMW 335 - part 1

What happened: while driving, steering system malfunction warning appeared, power steering felt normal. Within 5 sec the hvac blower quit, a/c shut off, and “transmission not in park” flashed although shifter was untouched (in drive). All cluster gauges began sweeping randomly; idrive screen flickered. Within 10 seconds, I heard a loud pop from passenger-side engine bay; voltage warnings continued. Pulled over immediately, switched ignition off, opened hood: active flames at passenger side of engine bay. Fire spread rapidly. Fire dept arrived within 5 min, but vehicle was fully engulfed. Total loss. No injuries. Suspected root cause: BMW’s pcv valve-heater (“blow-by heater”) or electric coolant-pump connector short-circuited, causing a massive current draw that browned out control modules (explaining the cascading warnings) and started the fire. These parts are the subjects of recalls 22v-119 (pcv heater, build cutoff 10 oct 2013) and 24v-608 (water-pump connector, n20 engines only). My VIN shows no open recalls, yet the failure sequence and fire origin perfectly match the defects acknowledged in those campaigns. Damage & consequences complete destruction of vehicle forward of the firewall and significant damage to cabin. Towing, tow-yard and haz-mat cleanup fees incurred in excess of $1300 I only have liability coverage on the vehicle, so insurance will not get involved. Request to NHTSA please investigate 2014 335i gt (n55) models excluded from 22v-119 and 24v-608. Evidence suggests the same defective components are present and can cause in-motion engine-bay fires. Please advise if I have any recourse on this matter.

Hard to explain. Looks like my niv is ''bad''. There are 11 recalls on BMW 335xi sedan 2011 and mine has 0 (same car, but special limited edition). For now, BMW is of no help at all, they follow their procedure which do not include my niv in any way $$$. What to do next?.

Wiring harness in the engine compartment caught fire about 2 weeks after changing a water pump, battery kept being draining even after battery replacement. Locking of the trunk trunk forced usage of a BMW authorized jump start battery charger/start etc. No access to battery when the battery is discharged.

I bought a BMW on November 3rd and within 48 hours on the 5th of November at 6:30 the engine seized while the car was driving when I took it to BMW they did a carfax on it, it said the car had 197,000 miles on it and the car was listed with 97,790 miles and the odometer still says 97,000 and the transmission is also slipping because it had 197,000 miles on it and the font headlights won't work.

The battery light would come on randomly when using the ac. We just took the car out for a 30 minute drive and parked in the garage. When we went back out to get something out of the car 10 minutes later, the car was smoking. We popped the trunk and the battery was on fire! I researched if there were recalls of faulty wiring and came across an article that mentioned this happening when the ac was on. It also mentioned issues with pcv valve heater recalls. After we bought this car, we noticed burn marks around the area near the battery when we replaced it. We wonder if the same thing happened to them but not as much damage. One recall involves the heater for the positive crankcase ventilation (pcv) valve, and the other recall involves wiring and electrical connectors in the system that controls air flow for heating and air conditioning. Can we get help from a BMW dealer to fix this issue? please advise. Thank you.

Car caught fire in driveway spontaneously. It had not been used since the previous day and had been sitting atleast 16 hours since last use. We woke up and black smoke and flames coming from car taller than our house. Significant damage to other three cars in driveway and side of our house. Car that caught fire is totaled.

I was driving on the highway when my sunroof exploded. I thought someone shot at me.

After the car is shut off, the coolant pump will stop with the car but after a min the car will stay off but the coolant pump will kick on. Runs until battery is drained. I do understand there is a feature to circulate the coolant so help mitigate burn/hot spots but this continues until the battery is disconnected by ecu. Then it won't start because the battery is too low. Ongoing issue for the past 2 years now, happens intermittently. Frequency is random but happens more when it's cold out. But average happens a few times a week when cold out, sometimes it runs well for a few weeks then starts happening again. We had tried to troubleshoot by BMW but no luck. They have replaced battery, alternator, have tried to diagnose about 4 times now but they haven't fixed it since they can't replicate at the BMW shop. I can hear the coolant pump running as well as feel the water moving. Also tested by fluke meter, it drains at about 40 amps (at 12 volts) when this happens, with the car off. Doing anything (opening doors, trunks, locking, unlocking, stops it for a minute but then pump starts again). No errors pop up for it except when the battery is low and then error battery had high discharge pops up.

July 28 2022 while parked and I. The off position my 2007 b. M. W 335xi began bellowing black smoke from under the hood of the vehicle. I quickly discovered the origin was behind was in the housing for the vehicles blower motor. Once I realized I could put the fore out I called emergency services, they responded but the vehicle was completely destroyed.

Fine, white particles are blowing out of the cabin air ducts whenever the air conditioner or fan is turned on. My local BMW service center, herb chambers BMW of boston, determined that the debris is flakes of aluminum from the deteriorated aluminum alloy fins of the ac evaporator coil and heater exchanger. The cabin air ducts were scoped and found to be intact with no intrusion of outside contaminants. The dealer determined that if not replaced, “the a/c evaporator will fail…” and quoted the cost of repairs at $5,286. 18. As I am sure you are aware, aluminum is a neurotoxin when absorbed by the body. The science is well established and can be easily sourced using google scholar: https://scholar. Google. The fine aluminum particles blowing from the heating and cooling system of my BMW have been absorbed into my eyes, mouth and airways, putting me at risk from internal exposure to aluminum. They have also rendered my BMW 335d unusable due to this health safety hazard. I filed a request for recourse with BMW of north America and was denied.

So I got a paper saying I had a recall on my air bags so I called and got my car takin to BMW in bellevue. BMW's road side assistants gave the wrong address to the tow company and would not answer the phone tow for them> I even attempted to call and was placed on hold for approximatyely 40 minutes to fix this problem. Finally I spoke with the tow companys dispatcher who was so frustrated he started accusing me of playing games and threatened to have my vehicle dropped at the wrong dealership then extorted me for another 80 dollars just to drop my car off his truck and leave it at my house. Hours later after finally getting a hod of roadside assistance the exact same company returned and delivered my vehicle to the right location. After all of this we are being jerked around by bellevue BMW on the recalls they asked me for 3 hours of labor and promised us to get the vehicle started after approximately a week they said my dme is bad an it would cost 8000. 00 to fix it and said it wasn't worth fixing because it was old never mentioned anything about a recall until I finally brought it up the last time I spoke with BMW in bellevue which was Monday the15th of March 2021. I was told the wire harness was repaired not replaced and the airbag recall was replaced. Then said my bill was over 600. 00 > after doing my research thru thenhtsa website I found out my recalls were not fixed and I took photos with the dates and time showing my recalls were not fixed which I feel upset and very worried and concerned for my safety now I am not sure where to go from hear because my family and I are being placed into a hardship and to make it worse we are in the middle of a pandemic please help us. I don't know if anything was done to the car I think we need to talk to an attorney.

Central locking issue. The doors neither lock nor unlock with key fob, and the central locking button inside the car does not unlock the doors. The double pull method also does not unlock the doors. Seems like a huge safety issue especially when I have 4 other people in the car and get t-boned, flip the car and it catches fire, and now all of us have to get out of the passenger door. Not sure where to go from here !.

There is a failure in the door actuators that when happens prevents the door from being opened using the internal door lever and in some cases also affects the external handle. Not being able to open the door by pulling the internal or external levers may cause a safety issue in case of emergency (crash, flood, fire). BMW is aware of this issue because lots of 3 series cars have failed and they have been repairing or replacing the defective parts in cars under warranty, but refuses to cover the expenses out of warranty period. The vehicle comes with a condition based service system, which currently gives the oil change interval of 24 months, however a TSB from 2013 states the oil change should be at 12 months. This has caused my extended warranty to be invalidated due to not following the proper maintenance schedule.

Front passenger inside door handle starts to melt during any hot condition. Once melting deterioration starts, door handle gets extremely sticky and soft (leaves a lot of unknown residue on any passenger hand) to any hand touch during any weather condition (cold/hot). Door handle unknown components are touched by passengers and can be unsafe if a kid under 18 eats the door handle unknown componentes while inside the vehicle. Handle can be unsafe to a grip in case of accident (could fall off and end in passenger hand). Extremely bad (poor) material were used for inside door handle. This problem concerns the door latches on the BMW 335i (f30 generation). The problem I have noticed is that once in a while, the door does not unlock when pulling the latch. Typically, you would pull the door handle once, unlocking the car, and once again to open the door. When this problem presents itself, pulling on the handle does not unlock the car. Only the electronic button can be used to unlock it. It problem could cause danger in the case of an accident where the electrical system is no longer working and could leave one trapped inside of their car. The problem presents itself intermittently. I have only noticed the problem happen when parked. I believe that the lock actuator is the faulty component here. Even when using the electronic button to unlock the door, you can see that the lock indicator (that small thing on the side of your door) goes up much slower than the other unaffected doors.

The key fobs in the 2008 Bmws are glued and the battery soldered into place, making it difficult for owners to replace the batteries in the key fobs when the battery dies. Once the key fob battery dies, the vehicle is inoperable. BMW should offer a replacement key fob for all model years where the battery is not able to be changed by the owner.

I am perplexed that nhsta allows tire manufacturers to sell tires without warranty. Any merchandise sold to public has at least 1 year manufacturer's warranty against defects in parts, material and workmanship but not tires. The only part that connects a vehicle to a surface is a tire. Therefore, tires are the most important piece of equipment on a car but yet manufacturers can sell tires without warranting that the tires would perform as they are intended even when they are driven a few miles. Bridgestone re050a rsc run-flat tires driven less than 11000 miles within less than 2 years and one of the tires had already developed a bulge the size of a banana. Please see the attached photo of the tire. These tires do not have a manufacturer's warranty. Not because they are old but because they have never had one. If I died and caused death on the road because of this fault, this company would not be liable. Why? because they are not held responsible by nhsta or anybody. There is not even a section to complain about tires. That's why I have to put this complaint in the vehicle section. Does this mean national highway traffic safety administration cares about our safety? luckily, I caught this before it caused an accident or lives. Are you waiting for enough lives to be consumed by this before you take action?.

I was driving my car when the engine sounded something similar to is if I had a misfire. I started slowing down by the time I got to about 5 miles an hour smoke started coming through the vents. Open the hood and there was a fire between the back of the engine in the firewall. Within 15 minutes the car completely burned down. It is unknown what caused this so far.

I own 2 BMW 335d's, one a 2010 and the other a 2011. I cannot keep these cars on the road. I have had "service engine soon" lights constantly. Every code leads back to the emmissions system on these diesels. The latest is an scr code that is thousands of dollars to repair. BMW came out with a 10 year 120k mile extended warranty on the problem. They should have come out with a recall! I have had so many service engine lights I cannot afford to keep these cars on the road. These cars are worse than the vw diesels. The cars runs great, yet because of the service lights the rpairs are more costly than the cars are worth. I asked the murrieta BMW to ask Bmwna to see if they would repair the scr active tank and was declined. I run the 2010 BMW many miles on the freeways so the scr active tank problem didn't show up until 186k miles. My 2011 BMW which isn't driven on freeways is much had to have that tank replaced at 117k miles. When talking with the murrieta BMW service manager, he agreed when I told him these cars are crap. When the service manager had nothing good to say about the cars that speaks volumes. The blogs on the computer are loaded with complaints about the emission and def systems on these diesels. Help, I truely have two cars right now that are worthless! the service managers advice was to turn them in to a dealership and get new(er) cars. . . Really, pass the problem onto some other unsuspecting person when BMW knows these cars are more than a problem - unbelievable!.

The car is in the shop every week I have had it towed 12 times since may. I took it in for the recall (electrical issued recently) the vehicle ran great, now the dealership says I need 3 new injectors. The injectors are bad. I am reading reviews and others stated their BMW's need new injectors. So is their a recall for injectors I did not see? the car stahled while I was driving it stopped in the middle of the road.

Driving at highway speed, with no cars in front and no overpass, the front sunroof panel spontaneously exploded. The edges of the remaining glass bulge upward and the center of the glass panel is gone.

Door sometimes does not unlock from the inside. Normally a double pull on the interior handle will unlock and open the door. But sometimes it will not unlock (the handle feels stuck and can't be fully pulled) and requires pressing the electronic central locking switch. Not safe if there is an electrical failure. I have a video but cant upload it.

BMW recall campaign no. 17v-676: blower motor wiring. According to recall could lead to fire. According to BMW notice as of December 2017there is no remedy. February 12th 2018, no remedy. April 4th 2018, no remedy. At what point do they have to do something about this?.

Motor system connectors recall.

Door lock on driver side will not release. The locking pin goes up and down, but the door lock will not release as it is supposed to unless the unlock button is pressed. In the event of an emergency, the driver cannot get out by simply pulling the door handle.

This car has been totaled out by my insurance company due to the frame being waped radiator busted suspension warped electrical issues with the blower motor this was the 1st first of my 4 Bmws to leave me owing money on a vehicle that isn't drivable location and issue unknown.

Driving at 90km hr on flat straight good hwy, sunroof for no reason explodes. Noise is loud enough to give me tinnitus, glass shatters everywhere. Causing me to do an emergency pull over. Evidence shows clearly the explosion was outward with remaining glass bent upwards and shards all down the back of the car damaging the rear paint. Shards covering driver, passengers and back seat. Sunroof was closed and had not been open for 2 months and liner shade was back.

The airbag sensor in the passenger seat has malfunctioned and cannot read whether or not a person is sitting in the seat. In turn the airbag is off due to the cars ecu. BMW dealership in bellevue has repeatedly told me that the only way to remedy the situation is to buy a new seat at my own expense. This is a serious safety issue along with my takata airbag that I have yet to receive any sort of notice for repair or even that I fall under the recall.

BMW 335d automatic with approx 60k miles. While driving on the highway at approx 60 mph, the vehicle suddenly began to make noise, shake violently and fill with smoke. The passenger side curtain airbags went off from the violent shaking. My husband piloted it across 2 lanes of traffic to the shoulder. The center console and shifter were lifted up several inches. We were shocked that we did not wreck. We set the emergency brake and called BMW roadside assistance. It was towed to the nearest dealership. The dealer said it was 100% mechanical failure and the driveshaft broke and caused significant damage to the transmission and that they could not repair it.

Valve cover oil leaking onto exhaust manifold that causes fire. It was turned off and stationary. Asked BMW to change in 80k but they said just sweating oil. Safety hazard ignored. Common amoung BMW 3 series engine.

I was driving on the highway when all of the sudden I heard and explosion. Actually my sunroof burst in to pieces without any reason.

I got locked in my car several times and it will not unlock. This can cause death on a hot day. The vehicle was stationary.
