Sudden acceleration on a BMW 525i 2004. No previous incidents. While turning into a parking space, perpendicular to the road, in front of a bakery, during the final approach the engine suddenly accelerated, abruptly and without a reason, going over the bump stop. The car ended up in the sidewalk, no injuries (fortunately no pedestrians were on the sidewalk at the time). Luckily the driver had the foot on the break pedal and could take action preventing a crash with the building's door and avoiding hitting the people inside the shop. Car was taken to the dealer and will undergo testing. Service adviser claims no issue like this has happened before, only in Toyota's. Not true at all.

I started my car and turned the seat heater on low. Approx 5 mins later, smoke started coming out of the dash because the seat heater had burned two holes in the leather and smoke had circulated in my car. I stopped the car, turned it off, and turned it back on and the smoke cleared. I had contacted my local dealer and BMW na in Dec 2012 because I felt the seat heaters were getting too hot - the drivers seat registered 132 degrees at that time. The dealer told me there was nothing wrong with the seat heater and BMW na never responded, outside the standard form email telling me they would get back to me. Today, the seat heater finally burned through the leather and I was fortunate not to have been burned.
There is a component called mpm(micro power module) beneath the spare tire and is completely burnt due to some water in the trunk. The plastic case which covers the component is burnt and there is clear indication of fire. Spoke to BMW customer relations and they advised me to file a complaint here . Please look in to this issue as this may be hazardous.
The contact owns a 1993 BMW 525i. The contact stated that both the rear driver and passenger side doors failed to open. As a result, the rear passengers were not able to enter or exit the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 230,000. The VIN was not available.
Vehicle in motion with defrost on, smoke came from defrost vent on dashboard, filling car instantly with smoke. Pulled off highway, opened windows, smoke clears then moved car approximately 200ft. Off main route to side street. Smoke and flames immediately came out of the defrost vent. Used 3 abc fire extinguishers, failing to contain the fire before the fire department arrived with 2 pumpers, and had to use afff foam to manage the fire due to high amounts of magnesium in the car. The newly purchased car was in very good condition, the car and contents are a total loss. Researched on line, found multiple reports of the same exact issue in this model, this was not unique. Also was not able to find any reports of recall for this defect. Also, will be contacting BMW of north America today. Updated 12/06/lj.
The car beeps every few miles and a warning light shows it need an oil change, I had just gotten a change, so they changed it again, the next day the bells started ringing again. Also the gear shifter went out. It is still ringing.

My problem with my vehicle was all of a sudden when I tried to unlock my car only the front driver and passenger doors unlocked. My rear doors remained locked. I cannot open my doors from the outside or inside and I am worried if I ever have an emergency and my passengers have to get out they cannot. Also with this problem my interior lighting went out. This isn't an issue but my doors are.
Bought the car in Aug started using the seat warmer about December of 2014. Here and there upon using I'd smell something burning so I would turn it off! but not all the time when using the warmer did I smell burning! late March my husband noticed a burn hole on my driers seat, I instantly remembered the burning smell when sometimes using the seat heater! I'm lucky I was not burned but my driver seat is ruined and I'm now afraid to use the heaters, ever!.
I and numerous others have had problems with the instrument cluster pixel on the BMW 525i vehicles, which makes it extremely difficult to read whether you have a engine concerns or worse if the engine is overheating, etc. This could be potentially hazardous and the manufacturer is well aware of the problem, and they have even repaired a few Bmws at no charge. However, when I notified the company of my complaint, they advised me that they would cover 25% of the parts and labor, and leave me to pay the remaining $452. 00. As I mentioned earlier, this is a huge problem and the vehicles should be recalled. . Read more...

2007 BMW 525xi model not limited to or exclusive of this make/model but has a known issue where a red light indicator appears on the dash signaling an electronic steering column fault has occurred, do not turn the engine off or the car may not be able to be started again, contact your local BMW service department. This has yet to make it on the NHTSA database as an official recall but I have researched and made note of several hundred customers experiencing this same issue on their BMW. This car is out of the 3 year service warranty and this is not a covered or recalled item as of today. I am filing my complaint against BMW since it will be costing me over $1000 to have this addressed/fixed when in fact it is abnormal behavior by BMW engineering/manufacturing and is a defect in their design. It should be recalled and fixed for all BMW customers covering the span of years in which the commonality has occurred 2006-2007 325, 525 models.
The passenger side air bag warning light is on and will not turn off. I have called the BMW dealership and they stated that they would have to run a diagnostics test which will cost over $100 just to find out what is wrong with it. They stated that my VIN number was one of the cars that was fixed in a previous recall for the same issue. I told them I do not have the money to pay to see what is wrong it. What if the passenger airbag fails and someone is actually injured do to this issue. The warning notification on the dash has been on for two years. The car currently has 80,000. I don't understand why the same issue happens for a previous recall and they cannot take ownership of the recall. Very disappointed. The car has a very high price tag and you would expect some sort of ownership and honesty from the BMW corporation.
Radio, navigation,cd,phone, not working. I drive is blink. Car has 93,000 miles.
I was driving on the freeway and turned the seat heater on. After about 5 minutes into my drive, I started to smell smoke and then saw smoke in the car. I pulled over and saw that the seat was catching on fire. I turned the seat heater off and doused the fire with water.

While driving and without warning the consumer had to drive a certain speed in order for the ajar indicator light or the alarm sound to come on, to let the consumer know the door or trunk was open. There was also no warning chime to let the driver know that occupants in the vehicle released the seat belts. After the vehicle was placed in drive, it would take about two vehicle lengths before the gong sounds, the fuel sending unit was inoperative and caused the vehicle to stall, at the time the vehicle showed a half a tank, there was a loud popping that had come from the center of the vehicle, the vehicle jumped between gear(1st to 2nd gear and would jerk), the remote key wouldn't work, the left rear seat belt would not extend, the vehicle would crank but wouldn't start, the vehicle alarm was too sensitive, and the right rear door's full shade did not retract. The fuse in the glove box was loose.
