After having an independent mechanic scan my vehicle with an advanced scan tool, the error that came up was for the "passenger seat occupancy sensor". This fault has caused both the airbag and seatbelt light to reman illuminated continuously. The first time it happened, I had the code reset. But after a person sat in the passenger seat, the error code came back with the same fault code.

Front passenger airbag is deactivated due to the front seat sensor mat malfunction. Alarm lights up on instrument cluster as well as the idrive service section. Vehicle is out of warranty. Dealers are asking for $400 to diagnose the issue. They claim the issue is common but my specific vehicle is not affected by the recall. 10 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 BMW 525

Failure Date: 12/13/2013

I want to express my disappointment at the lack of urgency shown by BMW in addressing my concerns with regards to the recall issued due to malfunctioning of the front air bag seat occupancy sensor mat. My car had this problem in mid Dec 2013, just before the recall notice was issued. Since this malfunction was safety related, I rushed to get the car repaired immediately. My local BMW dealer did not have the sensor module available; therefore, I had to get the repair done from the certified BMW service professional where I incurred an expense of $851. 84. I have been following up with BMW since January to get paid for this repair and have made repeated calls (on dates 3/26, 4/15, 6/9) but every time I get told that I have to wait to get this payment. Unfortunately, I have run out of patience. How can you make your loyal customers go through this disgraceful ‘run around’? when I purchased a BMW, I signed for high levels of quality and customer service. The company has failed me on both counts. I have lost patience and want everyone to know about this sub par service provided by BMW.

12 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 BMW 525

Failure Date: 06/10/2013

Started the engine. Passenger sat in vehicle. The passenger restraint system failure light appeared on screen. I thought it was a glitch. The light appeared on and off for several weeks. Went to an independent mechanic and told that it was the seat mat or sensor and the cost would run around 1500 at the dealer. Was told to check to see if there was a recall. Checked on the website and there was no recall but many complaints about the same problem occurring for the 2006 vehicles.

13 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 BMW 525

Message appears that there is a malfuntion with the passenger air bag and reminded passenger to wear seat belt until it is looked into. Also a warning about the power steering sensor malfunction. These are both safety issues but BMW has been of no help.

14 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2006 BMW 525

Failure Date: 01/08/2013

I have received a warning on multiple occasions that there is a malfunction in the passenger restraint system. I took the car in for repair at the BMW dealership and was told that I need to replace the front passenger seat sensor. There is a recall for my 2004-2006 BMW 5-series for this issue (NHTSA campaign id 08v384000), however I was told my car was not covered under the recall.

15 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 BMW 525

Failure Date: 02/01/2011

My 2007 525xi has encountered the same problem covered by NHTSA campaign 08v384000 in 2008 which disables the front airbag. My for recall in that campaign ended in 2006. I was able to verify with BMW that the part number for the seat to repair the issue in my2007 is the same as my2006. Has any tracking of the occurance in my2007 occurred? why would the same part not be covered under the manuafacutures extention to the warrantee of 10 years unlimited milage? this is approximately a $1200. 00 repair to replace the seat as BMW does not sell the sensor mat without the seat.

17 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2004 BMW 525

Failure Date: 09/15/2007

1) we purchased the vehicle used, with no problems. While traveling, we got out of the vehicle and when we got in, we noticed that a airbag light and seatbelt light were indicated on the instrument panel (red fault lights). Since the vehicle has the BMW I-drive we also noticed the warning that "there is a malfunction in the passenger restraint system, keep seatbelt fastened, and see BMW service center" or very close to this. 2) I assume that since there is this error, the passenger side airbag is disabled by the ecm. Part of the reason for buying the vehicle was for its safety, and the consequences of us not having an airbag available should there be a crash could be catastrophic. We are living in germany supporting the us, and am not sure of the right way to get this issue resolved. 3) I took the car to a BMW dealer who charged me 31. 00euro dollars to retrieve the trouble code, and tell me I had a bad passenger side seat airbag sensor mat. I also received a quote for a new one of around 720. 00 euro dollars ($1036 us dollars). The car had a one year warranty from the dealer, but I have not yet found out if they will cover this. Since it is a safety issue, I thought that BMW would have to repair this problem at no charge.

18 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2004 BMW 525

Failure Date: 02/10/2006

Since I have purchased the car in 2005 (with only 14,000) I am having problems with the passenger air bag and seat belt mat sensor of my BMW 2004. I brought it to the dealer for service. It was serviced. Right after the warranty expires with over 50,000 miles, I have the same problem. I went online to the BMW of north America website and there's a recall for car (same model and year as mine) but, they said mine is not included. I went to this BMW forums and I realized I am not the only one suffering this consequences. (go to google and type e60 BMW recall ) some of them recalled having reported this issue to you guys before. This is a safety device that goes inside the passenger seat and senses by weight activate or deactivate the airbags in the event of an accident.
