I had just purchased a car but a month ago I was driving to lunch and I was at a stop sign when the light turned green I started to go the car started shaking and smoke was coming out of the front under the hood I had just an oil change so I took it back to the oil change shop. They could not figure out why the engine blew and I had to take it to a different BMW shop where I have to purchase a rebuilt motor and pay for the repairs. I can request all records from the automotive shop if needed.
While driving my car at about 30 miles per hour the engine suddenly seized up. There was no warning at all. I had it towed to the dealer, baron BMW in merriam kansas. After evaluating the car they determined the engine failed and it was an issue of lack of oil. I had taken the car to this dealer prior to buying the car to make sure there were no problems. After their inspection I went ahead and bought the car. It had 40,528 miles. I had taken it to the same dealer for service for 3 years prior to the engine failure when the engine failed the mileage was 95,444. I talked with the dealer and let them know that I felt BMW should pay for replacement of the engine. They refused to do this so I was stuck with having to pay for another engine. After researching this issue I found out that there numerous issues with the engine and that several people had had the same problem. BMW was aware of this issue and chose not to do a recall as they should have . Instead the went ahead and made the decision to not do the recall and deal with the engine failures when the engines failed . This would be less expensive to do rather than do the recall which they should have done. So what they did was to sell the 528i model and let people drive the cars , knowing that a certain number of cars engines would fail. Since your organization is concerned about safety issues ,shouldn't you have taken some action once you became aware of the engine failure issue I would hope you could consider some kind of fine or whatever against BMW for putting a car out on the road knowing a certain number of engines would fail while people were driving . They were more concerned with profits rather than the safety of the public that would be driving their cars. While you are at it it would be good if you could fine BMW and have them reimburse the owners of these cars in which the engines failed! thank you for your time and consideration. Drivetrain malfunction light came on and now the car takes a long time to get up to any decent speed. Probably 0-35 in about 10 seconds. I was advised by a service center that timing chain failure is imminent and I would need to pay $8000 to replace the motor on a car for which I owed $11000, that at the time was only worth about $4000. As of today, it's worth about $800 with a $3800 balance on the note. Overpriced scheduled maintenance and costly repairs were all performed as they should have been.
I had issues with my car while driving and when taken to the dealer for check, they mentioned my timing chain and engine has some issues and needs to be replaced with an estimate of $14000 while the car loan I had on it was $12000. This is ridiculous as we already know BMW 2012 models have engine issues.
Was driving down the street and car stopped. Dealer said I needed a new engine on a 3 yr old car. Engine covered under warranty. A few years later the drive shaft failed as I was driving. Believe it was related to removing engine and not securing all parts. How could this happen to a 5 yr old car? dealer nor BMW USA would not cover the 2800 costs.
I was driving my car home from work and it just cut off , I put the car in park and restarted my car this was in may 2017 and on July 13 2017 I was sitting at a red light and stop sign turned green and I push on the gas but the car cut off again .
Timing chain is loose per the dealer. The car only has 59,000 miles. The car has not stopped but if the chain breaks it will stop wherever it happens. I could be driving on a busy interstate and the car will stop. This is definitely a safety issue.

Driving in the hov at approximately 9pm when an alert message "drivetrain malfunction, drive moderately" displays. Car engine immediately cuts out and we have no propulsion. We are unable to move to a safe location and wind up on a narrow shoulder of the lie in NY. Police come and close down 2 lanes to prevent collision (extremely dangerous road conditions). We were unable to start the car or shift it into neutral. Car was towed. BMW notifies us that fuel sensors malfunctioned resulting in us running out of gas even thought the indicator showed we had 1/2 tank. However because we were over the 50,000 mile warranty we would be responsible for replacing. . BMW is looking for us to pay $3,100 to have the fuel sensors replaced. I researched this and found that BMW had issued a recall on its 2011 5 series sedans and 2012 5 series gt for a fuel sensor malfunction that mirrors exactly what happened to us. We purchased our BMW Nov 2011. We strongly believe this fuel sensor defect both in design and functionality is the reason behind what happened to us. Put my family and 6 police patrol men in harms way. Notified BMW that they need to extend their recall to other 2012 5 series sedans given our experience. Felt compelled to notify you as there may be other drivers who will be put in harms way if this problem is not reconciled on all 2012 5 series sedans. We were lucky we were not injured. Someone else might not be.
The car was leased new. A heavy 'chemical ' smell occured whenever the ventilation system was activated. Driver suffered headaches and sinus problems. At 14 months into the lease, driver had an air quality test done on inside of the car. Results came back with elevated unsafe levels of benzine. Other persons riding in the car experienced vision problems. Benzine is a known carcinogen and something was very, very wrong with this car. BMW is now in possession of this car.
