My vehicle’s engine spews smoke after driving for ten minutes or more. In addition, a toxic odor comes into the cabin when the a/c is on. There are no visible oil or fluid leaks in the engine or the driveway where I park the car. It’s possible that the problem is due to the active recall described below. BMW has failed to find a solution in a timely manner to the following NHTSA recall: engine coolant pump: the electrical connector of the engine coolant pump could become damaged. Small drops of liquid from the positive crankcase ventilation (pcv) system could drip down onto the electrical connector of the pump.

Subject: recall campaign 14v-176: n51, n52k and n52t engine – replace vanos gear bolts, (this service information bulletin supersedes si b11 07 14 dated September 2014). My 2011 BMW 528i has around 279000km and vanos gear bolts are broken that could lead to engine stall and although NHTSA has issued recall campaign but BMW dealers are refusing the repair by saying that no such recall is showing against my VIN wbafr1c52bc750642. As per online research this is a known issue in my car model and NHTSA has already issued a recall campaign#14v-176 as showing at the top of this statement. I had this issue with vanos for almost 3 yrs as car was throwing error message once in a while and engine hesitates and bogs at lower rpm. Rough idling/ increase in engine misfires, increase in fuel consumption. I changed several parts to troubleshoot but could not figure out the actuall root cause of this problem, until recently an independent shop opened the engine to change the engine valve cover/pcv valve, when they noticed that 2 vanos gear bolts are broken. That mechanic advised me to contact BMW immediately and stop driving the car as this can lead to permanent serious damage to my engine and car will stall immediately that may cause an accident or a crash. I have always taken good care of this car and hoping BMW to cover the parts/labor cost under recall campaign. I would really appreciate your help is getting this matter resolved with BMW canada. On a rainy October 13, 2018, while riding on the highway(rte. 422) with my 7 year old son my BMW 528i stopped running; without warning. Miraculously, we coasted on the highway ramp into the dealership driveway. The vehicle was diagnosed with an internal engine failure, which required $12,000+ to rebuild/repair. Currently, the payoff is $13,895. 32 till 11/25/18. The monthly payment is $425. 00 and the date of maturity for the loan is 9/15/21. I purchased the vehicle under a pre-owned certified guarantee, which expired in July. The car was regularly serviced and I kept all of my paperwork. Upon researching the engine failure, I discovered that this is a common problem. In fact, presently, an acquaintance of mine has his car at the BMW cleveland dealership with the same problem. These engines suffer reliability issues that result from problems relating to the timing chain, fuel injectors, mass airflow sensors, crankcase vent lines, battery, the engine vacuum pump and low-pressure fuel sensors. Such problems led to more serious concerns such as excessive battery drainage (the battery defect), oil leakage (the oil defect) and engine seizure, often causing pistons to crack the engine block due to the high pressure (the engine defect). Additionally, the engines experience internal engine failure due to loose metal shards in the engine. My question is. . . How did the vehicle pass the multi-point inspection to earn the pre-certified designation?.

During this time I had to store my own vehicle and drive it down the day of the vehicle. My vehicle has now experience whistling, shaking/vibration of the car and the check engine light has came on. Each time I started the engine , there would be a lot of smoke coming from under the hood, I brought the car to the mechanic, and was told that engine oil was leaking from somewhere. There is currently a recall on the vehicle, involving the pcv valve, which also relates to leakage of engine oil. The recall poses a fire risk . I've contacted BMW, they stated "unfortunately, the parts and procedures aren't available to any dealer yet. BMW is currently working on producing the parts for this recall. " I haven't been given a specific time frame to which they will fix the problem , there have been many reports on the news of BMW cars that have caught on fire , even while just being parked. I have two young children and I'm ver concerned about our safety.
