3 Wiring problem of the 2008 BMW 528

Failure Date: 01/04/2019

All of the internal headlight wiring insulation on both headlights is crumbling off which is exposing the copper wire, causing sparks and shorting out. I have performed much online research and apparently this is a known problem by BMW. Currently it's a huge safety issue because it's unpredictable when headlights will short out while driving, losing sight of the road and possibly increasing risk of accident.

4 Wiring problem of the 2008 BMW 528

Failure Date: 05/20/2018

Headlight wiring inside headlight assembly is deteriorating badly. The protective coating is cracking and flaking off leaving the exposed copper core which in turn shorts out the lights. Possible fire hazard as well.

5 Wiring problem of the 2008 BMW 528

Failure Date: 02/11/2017

Wiring inside headlight assemblies flaking off leaving bare wires.

6 Wiring problem of the 2008 BMW 528

Failure Date: 10/19/2016

2008 BMW 528i automatic sedan with 104k miles. . . Head light wiring harness (driver side and passenger side) insulation is degrading resulting in bulbs malfunctioning/burning out regularly/shorting out/blown fuses, and possibly an electrical fire. An employees at one BMW dealership, said BMW is aware of the issue and refuses to address the issue¿ until they are forced to by the government or a lawsuit.

7 Wiring problem of the 2008 BMW 528

Failure Date: 07/07/2016

The vehicle is made with inferior wire coating that can and I'm sure has resulted in fires. Not to mention the features of the lights can and will stop working unexpectedly. This also causes shorts in the wiring of the switch in the dash I believe and possible battery drain leaving people stranded or even having car die while in motion. BMW had my car for 3 weeks trying to figure out all their other faulty issues - they finally had their head foreman take the car home with him and go over it with a fine tooth comb. He fixed most of the issues. They had sent me home with my car 3 or 4 times telling me my issues were resolved only for the car to stall, smell like burning rubber or just not start. They were also aware of the faulty wiring but did not list it as an item of eminent concern - however after taking car to another mechanic for a blown bulb a month later they expressed to me the extreme fire hazard the vehicle wiring posed and that because of the nature (or problematic design rather) of BMW they were not at liberty to delve into such matters. BMW is the utmost morally reprehensible auto maker I have ever encountered from start to finish. My lights went out while driving and I was almost hit by a driver in a large escalade around dusk a week ago. What's worse is when I took vehicle to BMW I was also having them fix the tail light recall that is prone to cause fires. I have never met more incompetent people. You do not get what you pay for.

8 Wiring problem of the 2008 BMW 528

Failure Date: 10/04/2015

Insulation covering headlight wiring cracks off leaving large amounts of bare areas. This resulted in electrical shorts, draining battery, erratic electrical system behavior, blown headlight bulbs, and an intermittent burning smell in my car.

9 Wiring problem of the 2008 BMW 528

Failure Date: 09/22/2015

Wiring of front headlights flaking off and exposing bare wire. The short of the wires caused the plastic of holding headlamp to bubble and melt as a consequence.

10 Wiring problem of the 2010 BMW 528

Failure Date: 08/28/2013

I received a displayed message there was a malfunction with the rear lamp. When checking the tail light assembly and wiring, I noticed the connector on the tail lamp assembly was melted (plastic) where the brown ground wire connected. The male/female connector parts got so hot that the plastic connector was melted where the ground wire connects. This was on the drivers side, but it is likely the passenger side would have the same problem. The heat generated to melt the plastic connector could cause the ground wire to burn and the brake/rear lights to fail. With a failure of the rear lights, an accident could happen.

11 Wiring problem of the 2008 BMW 528

Failure Date: 07/31/2013

Rear exterior lights(brake, tail, & turn signal) - melted wire assembly is causing malfunction. While driving I noticed a "burning" smell. Shortly thereafter, all at once my dash indicated that my passenger side tail light, brake light, and turn signal had simultaneously malfunctioned. The wiring harness that attaches to the light assembly is melted. BMW did a recall of over 2,500 3-series vehicles for the exact same issue but has not recalled the 5-series (????) this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed.

12 Wiring problem of the 1997 BMW 528

Failure Date: 08/23/2005

On 8/23/05 my BMW 528i VIN# wbadd6322vbw16703 brought in for repairs. One of my complaints that day was the car would hesitate and some times stall. My car was connected to a "check engine computer system" to diagnosis the problem. My mechanic informed me the problem was a "crank sensor" which he informed me was recalled. He made a call to tulley BMW (located in nashua, nh) in regards to the recall but they claimed there was no recall on that vehicle. My mechanic told me he could fix it however he felt it was worth my efforts to persue the issue further at tulley BMW. After picking up the car and getting all of the information from my mechanic that day I went home and called BMW of north America. I gave them the recall # 99e-a01and my VIN #. I was informed by north America BMW that the recall information is correct and according to their records my car was fixed by tulley BMW 5/2002. After receiving this information I called tulley BMW and spoke with a "peter" in the service department. I explained my situation and peter came back with the same information that his records indicate it was done. When I told him it wasn't done because the part in my car is the original sensor and explained that the replacement part connected different. After arguing some more he finally agreed to look at the car on 8/30/2005. I brought the car in on 8/29/2005 so it would be there in the am. Immediately the service personal had a mechanic look at the sensor. He confirmed it was in fact the original part. When I asked for a rental car I was told that they first had to fined out who was going to pay for the recall. I then informed them they were because I called BMW of north America said it was already done therefore tulley BMW received the reimbursement for the recall. Needless to say they gave me a rental car that night.
