Tl the contact owns a 2011 BMW 535i. While driving 65 mph, the contact heard a loud popping sound from the center of the vehicle. The contact pulled the vehicle over and noticed oil dripping from the oil pan. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the drive shaft and oil pan needed to be replaced. The contact was also informed that the cv joint fractured, which caused the damage to the oil pan. The vehicle was not repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 17v067000 (power train) and that there would be no assistance with having the vehicle repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.

The contact owns a 2013 BMW 535xi. While driving approximately 45 mph, a clicking noise was present coming from the front of the vehicle. After parking the vehicle, it was discovered that oil was leaking underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the universal joint failed and punctured the oil pan. The vehicle was not repaired.
