Catalytic Convertor problems of the 1998 BMW 540

Two problems related to catalytic convertor have been reported for the 1998 BMW 540. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Catalytic Convertor problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2002

Engine doesn't rev up above 4500 rpms and misfires. Engine check light on. Dealer replaced one of two catalytic converters under warranty. According to private clubs abd web sites of BMW owners, 540i cat converters last 50kmiles only.

2 Catalytic Convertor problem

Failure Date: 10/01/1998

Catalytic converter system failed.
