Front passenger seat occupancy detection mat had to be replaced as it was defective. Though not in previous recalls in similar Bmws and similar years, the error presented a safety issue that would disable the front passenger air bags and increase the risk of injury during a crash. With this error, I was forced to repair the seat mat and expended $1. 5k to remedy this safety issue. This seat mat issue is a known BMW problem that BMW and NHTSA have not addressed. VIN: wbann73596cn00024.

Takata recall. More than a year ago, I received information in the form of a warning that my car had airbags that should be replaced. I contacted the BMW center on s. Dixie highway near 160 street in miami and was told that they will get back to me. After a long enough wait, I called again and was told the same thing. After another period of time, I took my car to them. They told me that the airbag had been ordered and that I will be notified as soon as it comes in. After another long wait, I called and later went back with my car but still got the same run-around. It has been almost 2 years since I contacted BMW. I am lucky that nothing bad has happened to me while driving my car. What else am I supposed to do in order to get the service that I need? thank you for your help.

"takata recall" BMW sent me a notice of recall: driver's front air bag module in March 2016, however, until now 10/20/2016, the local dealer never call me to replace the front air bag. Another problem: I smell gas coming out from the fuel tank when parking in the garage, however, I can not find any leak from the gas tank. I feel my BMW x5 v8 2009 may be caught in fire if I drove long distance and the car heated up.

I'm getting the run around about replacing the driver's airbag in my car. I received the initial notice over 6 months ago and was told the air bags were released over a month ago but I still haven't gotten a second notice. The BMW dealership says there isn't an issue with the BMW it's just precautionary but they still don't have the airbags in.
Takata recall. BMW is not doing enough to rectify the situation. I received a notice in March & 5 months later BMW dealers still do not have the parts to repair the airbags. How is it that this is acceptable?.
Takata recall - I recently found out that my vehicle, which has been mine since it was new in 2003, is part of the takata recall and has been since almost a year ago. I never received a single notification in the mail. I have lived at the same address since 2003, so there seems to be absolutely no excuse for this. When I called my BMW dealership to find out what to do about the recall, I was told there is no current remedy but that someone would call me back about my options. It has been almost two weeks and no one has called me. I then sent an e-mail to BMW, which resulted in a form return message. What are the options for someone with this recall and no remedy? I can't say that I feel at all safe driving my car, especially not with my children in it, but I apparently have no alternative as I'm not in a position to purchase a new vehicle or to rent a vehicle.
On the morning of 3/18/2015 at 8 am. I started the car and received a passenger restraint system warning on the display. The car was parked in the garage.

Offending car did a 360 in front of me, I slowed to about 25 and he moved into me. I struck his rear passenger side corner. I had front end damage over $5k. No airbag, but default messages and an airbag icon came on the video screen and the front instrument panel. It states "driver and passenger airbag or restraint system malfunction. ".

My car is not on the airbag recall list but I have had this error for awhile now & it appears to be related to the airbag issue (not sure if my car has a tekata. ) the message comes up on the screen- pass. Restraint system- fault in passenger-restraint system affecting airbag, belt tensioner or belt force limiter. Contineu to wear the safety belt. I also have a picture of the error.
2005 BMW 525i. Passenger seat air bag malfunction light illuminated. Took vehicle to independent mechanic for diagnosis. Conclusion from mechanic was that passenger air bag seat mat was broken per NHTSA action number ea08001. Took vehicle to irvine BMW for repair under extended seat mat warranty. Irvine BMW said that passenger seat mat did not cause malfunction. Repairs would cost $1,075. Repairs were declined because independent mechanic would charge $400. Irvine BMW charged a $170 diagnosis fee.
The following message came on the screen of the idrive of the car when my 76 year old mother was placed in the passenger seat after returning to the parking lot after her's doctor visit: "passenger restraint system malfunction". It has been on since.

I own BMW 530xi ,I have problem with the passenger air bag , light still on all time . I checked in the web side BMW have recall for this issue ,but I contact BMW ask me for the VIN # ,I giving all number, but later they said to me my car not qualify for this issue I don't know why my car not qualify for this issue, I do not paid $ 1000, for this. . . . Let's BMW do this. . . Thanks. . .
I bought the car it had an oil leak, radiator leak, developed an air bag malfunction, the engine stopped running, tar is accumulating on top of the sunroof every time I open it, the heater fan makes noise, the transmission makes noise after four attempts it is still leaking oil. All of my friends who own BMW's have also had air bag malfunctions. None were part of the recall, all paid $1,300. 00 to have it fixed. BMW should have recalled all of them. The purpose of recalling some is to avoid a total recall. They are building their cars with inferior parts so that they do not last for more than 60,0000 before major problems occur. One of my friends has spent over $10,000 on repairs to his 2004 x3.
The passenger seat belt warning comes on saying the air bag is in defect, the seat belt is not working but wear seat belt for safety anyway. My car is a 2007 model that was not included in the recall but I am concerned that it was made with defective faults, since there is not enough complaints about them it was not included in the recall. It could have been a broader recall than they thought!! my car is in the shop right now for repairs.
My BMW 525i just received a passenger restraint failure error. I saw online where there is an active recall for this matter. Yet, when I contacted the dealer and BMW USA, I was told the vehicle wasn't covered based on the VIN number. This is not acceptable! my family is at stake here! the lives of myself and anyone I carry as a passenger risk harm. I ask that this be reviewed for it is a known flaw with this vehicle. Please contact me at w_madkins@yahoo. Com or phone at 770-905-3961.
Same issue as every other 2005 530i owner has had. My battery was low and needed replaced and after a new battery was purchased and installed the fault light came on the I-drive system for the airbag. BMW dealer refuses to do anything about it as my vehicle is not included in the recall. . I don't understand why when there are numerous complaints on a faulty system why this should not be repaired, obviously they know that the issue is there but do not want to spend the money to fix their issue. So much for the german engineered ultimate driving machine. With all of the technology comes all of the issues it would be nice to see a manufacturer stand behind their car for a change. . . . . . . If I failed to make a payment they would have surely repossed it. . . . . . Funny how we cannot get something from them when they fail.
The contact owns a 2004 BMW 5 Series. The contact stated that the air bag and passenger restraint lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the front passenger seat occupant detection map needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 08v384000 (air bags). The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 79,000.
I own a 2004 BMW 530i. As I was pulling out of my drive-way, the passenger restraint malfunction light appeared and has not gone off. I took it to the dealer, before I became aware of the recall, and he told me it was because I placed my purse in the passenger seat. After searching his database, he told me it was not under warranty and therefore, I would have to pay the total cost to repair it. I would believe this if my vehicle wasn't a 2004 and I have been placing my purse in the passenger seat since I first purchased it brand new in 2004!.
One day while driving, my car had an alert come on the I drive saying the passenger restraint system was malfunctioning. It stayed on a few months and then went away for a few months. Now the problem is occurring again.
The passenger side occupancy seat mat for the airbag failed. BMW has bulletin sib 65 75 06, airbag warning lamp for oc3 seat mat fault, that covers my cars build date, but BMW states my VIN is not covered. There is also a current recall, NHTSA campaign number: 08v-384, but BMW states my car is not covered and refuses to honor the 10 year extended warranty. My car is experiencing this same issue, as diagnosed by a local BMW dealers, but they have failed to cover it. This is a major safety issue that is affecting many cars outside of the recall. They are many people posting on various BMW forums that are experiencing the same issue. BMW should be held accountable to fix all the vehicles experiencing this problem.
While driving with my family over the weekend, I noticed the passenger air bag and seat belt light illuminate on the dash. The idrive stated there was a malfunction in the pass air bag. I took my car to the nearest dealer the next morning after finding that this is an ongoing/ common issue with the 5 Series. But what I don't get is why is my vehicles VIN not included?? it's obvious this is a defect with the production of these vehicles so why should myself or any other owner be responsible for this expensive repair? why are there only certain vehicles included? then I find out that if I'm in a crash, my passenger will not be protected!! this is not fair to owners and BMW should be held fully responsible. Another thing I don't understand is that I have a recall on the battery cables and that's covered! I read online that certain vehicles depending on the production date (thru 11/2005) are covered under the airbag recall. Well my BMW was manufactured in 11/2004! again, I don't understand why my VIN isn't covered. Not fair!! please help. . . . .
The airbag warning lamp comes on periodically. There was a recall, but it only covered to November 22 of 2005 production and my car was produced in December of 2005.
Restraint system fault.
Idrive displays seat belt and airbag warning on passenger front seat when occupied by passenger.
BMW refused to fix the NHTSA action number: ea08001 and NHTSA campaign id number : 08v384000 front passenger air bag warning.
Failure of the "vehicle center satellite module".
Passenger restraint malfunction illuminated on the dash. It indicates that the seat belt lock and/or airbags may not work in an event of an accident. When I called BMW, they told me that my car is not covered under this recall and it will depend on my local dealership if I will have to pay for the repair.
The problem started about half a year ago when the passenger air bag on/off lamp illuminated for a couple of minutes and then went off, all with the passenger present in the car with the seat belt on. A few days ago the air bag warning lamp and the passenger air bag on/off lamp illuminated while there was no passenger in the car. The message indicated that the air bag may not work. . . These symptoms look very similar to the problem identified in one of the recalls for this car; however when I called BMW, they indicated that my car is not part of this recall and I will have to pay to fix this.
The contact owns a 2003 BMW 540. While the contact's daughter was driving approximately 30 mph, she heard a loud noise. The front driver's side door air bag and rear door air bags deployed, injuring her left arm and leg. The vehicle was driven to a BMW dealer. The VIN was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 68,000.
BMW 545i system failure 1. Braking and dynamic-response 2. Passenger restraint system.
BMW 5 2004: when the passenger seat is vacant a warning message (that the passenger airbag is off) is continuously displayed at eye level in the roof console. This is very distracting, especially when driving at night. The message should only come on when the passenger seat is occupied and the airbag is not functioning.
