The BMW suddenly accelerates when stopped. This has happened multiple times' and is extremely dangerous. I have to put the vehicle in neutral and hit the gas pedal to stop it from racing. No codes come up when my mechanic scans the computer.

I was driving my car about 30 mph and pulling up to a red light and pressed the brakes. The car suddenly accelerated on its own and I stepped on the brake. It started lurching forward, accelerating. I had to kill the engine. This has happened 3 times and it's terrifying.

I had pulled into a parking lot traveling very slowly then turned left into a parking space with my foot on brake but just before coming to a complete stop the car suddenly surged forward at great speed, leapt over a concrete "log" designed to stop a vehicle and crashed into a concrete wall 3 feet in front of the car. My first reaction was to lift my foot from the pedal thinking I had depressed the accelerator in error, however the car increased speed and I just had time to glance down and ascertain that my foot was on the brake before the car plowed into the wall, deploying the air bags. The whole incident was over in 2 - 3 seconds and the car was perfectly aligned in the parking space except for the front wheels being the wrong side of "log". The X3 was not drive-able and was towed on a flatbed to the BMW service center and subsequently declared a complete write-off by the insurance company. I am horrified by the fact that many car manufacturers are aware of this sudden unintended acceleration problem yet, because it is difficult to prove, usually put all reported incidents down to operator error, therefore absolving them of responsibility. My insurance company is not investigating the cause, neither is BMW. Why is that? is it going to take a fatality before something is done to rectify this very real problem. Below is the contact details for the chubb claims examiner who is willing to share his report and photos should NHTSA decide to investigate. Sam jackson 800 432 2482 ext 0860 sam. Jackson@chubb. The contact owns a 2016 BMW X3. While stationary, the vehicle accelerated rapidly without warning. The vehicle was taken to be repaired, but the dealer could not diagnose the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 13,000.
My 2007 X3 was involved in a bizarre and freaky solo accident. My house is on sloped hill with a level driveway. The road leading to the driveway is about 20-25 feet below the driveway. On Apr. 18, 2013, upon entering the driveway, the car suddenly accelerated, hit concrete columns (on the edge of the driveway, meant for retaining walls) 3 times and went airborne from the edge of the driveway onto the street below. The car hit the street surface on its roof, rolled over once and came to a stop on its 4 tires. Driver and front passenger had seatbelts on and received minor injuries. The rear passenger was ejected from the car and suffered major injuries and still remains hospitalized 18 days after the accident. I have contacted BMW of north America and they have assured me that they will investigate this accident. After doing searches online, I am becoming more and more convinced that this is in fact a car malfunction and not a driver error. . Read more...
Tl- the contact owns a 2004 BMW X3. While driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated unintentionally. The contact attempted to steer the vehicle away from a parked vehicle but crashed into the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle continued to accelerate. The contact applied the emergency brake and powered off the engine. The vehicle came to a stop however, the failure recurred four different times intermittently. On the last occurrence of the failure, the contact crashed into another vehicle and a wooden post. The contact was not injured. The police reported the scene and a report was filed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 57,000. Kmj.
I was in traffic and not moving with my foot on the brake. Without warning, my car accelerated and hopped forward, almost hitting the car in front of me. I had to press firmly on the brake and put my car in park, but the engine revved up or squealed, lasting for about forty seconds. The dealership called it 'unintended acceleration' and could not reproduce the problem.
Started the car and started driving out of the parking lot. As turning the corner very slowly, the rear wheel went over the curb. At that point car started accelerating rapidly and hitting the brake didn't help. Crashed into the wall of the building, at least at 30 mph and the car got totaled. Contacted BMW and they said they'll send an inspection engineer. Haven't heard from them since.
