Would request to extend warranty on diesel fuel injectors for my car as well.

In July 2022, the vanos bolts in my 2011 BMW X3 xdrive28i failed, causing major internal engine damage. This is the exact defect later identified under BMW recall 23v-707. The bolts sheared off while driving, disabling the vehicle. I paid $5,000 out of pocket for full repairs using oem parts at masny motorwerks (BMW specialist in rochester, NY). BMW did not issue the recall until more than two years later. At that time, there was no remedy available. A fix was not released until December 2024. I followed BMW’s reimbursement process: I visited BMW of rochester in person on January 28, 2025 and submitted my invoice to the service advisor. I followed up by phone twice — no response. I submitted a full reimbursement claim to BMW north America on March 31, 2025 with all documentation. BMW replied on April 8 with a boilerplate response redirecting me back to the same dealership. I then followed up again with full documentation. BMW replied again, refusing to take responsibility and offering no support. I have submitted everything twice and followed the tread act process in good faith. BMW has failed to reimburse me or process the claim properly.

The high-pressure fuel pump failed while the car was in motion and the engine completely shut off. This was incredibly dangerous and put the lives of the driver, passenger (young child) and surrounding cars at risk. The problem was diagnosed by an independent BMW service center and is currently being repaired. There were no warning lights or messages apparent to the driver, but the service technician could see the diagnostic codes in the car's computer. There is an active recall for the 2017 diesel model of the BMW X3 due to this same fuel pump failure. This is not normal wear and tear - this car only has about 50,000 miles on it.

Car has broken down five times, each after having been driven several hours. Car suddenly looses power and dies. Will not restart- requires tow. All repair attempts have been made at BMW dealers. We have been placed in dangerous situations, including once with my six year old grandson in a highway construction zone with no shoulder. Please see attached correspondence with manufacturer. I am working with a journalist at cnbc to get info about this death trap out since NHTSA is ignoring the issue completely. People are telling you their family members are injured and/or dying because 2008 BMW X3’s simply loose power at 70mph and transmission issues that make this care not accelerate, jerk, stall, etc. I have been helping contact other owners in an effort to see if they have any unreported issues and many say their complaints were also ignored. When you try to accelerate, the transmission "thinks" about what gear it should be in. The vehicle hesitates, stalls slightly, and creeps along slowly before second gear catches. The rpms are erratic when accelerating. Very unpredictable when trying to accelerate. The hesitation is the main issue, especially when trying to pull out of an intersection across traffic. It can become a very scary situation when you want to accelerate and nothing happens. This is an ongoing problem. Nothing in particular causes it to happen besides regular acceleration. The problem is intermittent and may disappear while driving. However, it will appear again for no real reason. A software update was performed in mid-July. The problem was still noticeable. On August 3rd, the vehicle was once again brought in for service work. The service manager came along for the drive and noticed the transmission problem. Another 2008 BMW X3 that was on the lot was driven under the same driving conditions. The same issues with the transmission were noted. He told me that they will contact BMW to see if there are any service bulletins on how to correct the problem, but was unaware of any fix currently available. After two service calls the problem still persists without any fix as of yet.

In early August 2021, the fuel pump on our BMW X3 failed in the middle of an intersection and the car stopped completely. No way to move to one side until a flatbed wrecker came. Fuel pumps will fail after 100,000 miles and we above that figure, which is why it was surprising then to have the same problem four months later when we had multiple error codes come up on the same car. At least this time I could pull over to the side off the road. The problem was a failing fuel pump. When a pump fails the car stops. If we had been on a highway we would have been rear ended and potentially killed. I shared my concern with a contact at BMW corporate who only noted that the repair was under extended warranty. One BMW service rep I spoke to said that fuel pump failures are a known issue and yet in my experience there still seems to be a major problem with the part.

Vehicle suffers from engine 'miss' at cold start / idle, surges / lunges with minor throttle input after driving at lower speeds and accelerating. Has been into dealer for diagnostic and is under 'extended warranty' on diesel high pressure fuel pump. Have had two injectors fail and replaced, boost sensor and pipe, egr cooler and intake manifold replaced. Nhtsa posted a voluntary recall by BMW on this series of diesel powered X3 for high pressure pump replacement (21v-586) in August 2021. Owners were to be notified by mail in September 2021. Still have not been notified and checking status shows no open recalls. If pump is failing, it would be sending metal into the injectors and fuel piping. Have contacted bwmusa once again to check status of recall.

While driving in the southbound fast lane on highway 101 on July 28, 2021 near morgan hill, California, the computer screen advised that there was a fuel supply problem, and at that instant, the engine shut down and the transmission went into park. There was no opportunity to coast onto the shoulder. The vehicle would not restart, nor would it shift out of park. My wife and I were trapped in a vehicle that would not and could not move, in the fast lane of a major California freeway, surrounded by rush hour traffic, with the likelihood that we would be rear ended and perish in a frozen car. The danger was severe. We put the emergency flashers on. Other cars were passing us on the shoulder and on the right hand side, and getting out of the car was dangerous and impossible. We were convinced that we were going to die or be severely injured. We called 911 and at that moment another driver pulled behind us to offer a buffer of safety with his car, until the California highway patrol arrived and a tow truck was called. Until the arrival of the tow truck, we remained in severe danger. The tow truck had to pull the vehicle to the shoulder locked in park, causing it to shudder as the rear wheels hopped on the pavement. Eventually we hired a flat bed tow truck to bring the vehicle to our local BMW dealer, and the problem was diagnosed as a faulty fuel pump. Php, all of whom were put in peril as a result of this systemic failure. I hope that this notification may save some lives, and would welcome further contact to discuss the matter further. My wife and I still suffer from emotional distress and ptsd, as a direct result of this incident, and will not drive this vehicle again.

Twice now while driving the car it just completely stopped. No warning at all. Just came to a complete stop as I was driving. There were no warning lights, just happened. The first time was on a busy road, the second was on a much less busy street close to my home. I had it fixed to the tune of over $3000 the first time a year and a half ago. Now my mechanic is telling me that it is the timing chain and oil pump drive and that will be a very expensive fix. I am beside myself. If this had happened on a busy highway, lord knows what would have happened but it could've been something very catastrophic and horrific. I am a single mother and a widow and with the pandemic, I was out of work for many months. I do not know what I am going to do but I cannot afford to fix this car for several thousands of dollars.

Car has 89000 miles. At low speeds, it drives fine. On highway, "drive train malfunction" light appears during moderate-heavy acceleration. Today, on a crowded 4 lane highway at about 70mph, car lost all power, gas pedal was useless. I was barely able to limp to breakdown lane and speed dropped to about 15-20 mph by the time I could get there, through lots of honking and several near accidents. Extremely dangerous. I shut the car off for about 2 minutes, restarted it and it worked again. I travelled at about 55mph in right lane the next 15 miles home without issue. I was with my wife and 7 year old daughter. This is a very serious and dangerous issue to have with a car.

Smelled gasoline when the car was running. Took it to the service facility. They discovered that the nut on the pipe connecting the high pressure fuel line for cylinder 3 had cracked, leaking fuel all over the top of the engine including into the wells containing the ignition coils and spark plugs. The crack on the nut is visible on the attached photo. When the went to repair it, another nut cracked in a similar fashion. This is a serious fire hazard spraying fuel all over a hot engine.

Car has automatically downshifted and almost stalled while either in motion or slowing down several times. Mechanic is uncertain of exact cause.

On 8/30/20,after sitting for an hour after a long drive, the car burst into flames and burned down two adjacent homes. The car was parked for an hour before it started to burn.

Nhtsa: please help, our 2008 (besides all lost time for the repaired recalls) our 2008 BMW X3 is suffering the exact as in the recall below; NHTSA 14v176000, the BMW dealer replaced the camshaft position sensors due to "engine problems"July 2020,miles 135,000 this did not fix the problem. That BMW dealer, nashua nh then called us to say it would be $4,500. 00 to fix. Unsafe to drive, it lost power by 70% or greater-my wife, and I have been nearly _rear ended when this occured at higway sppeds-and slower local speeds ie 65mph or 30 mph limits. . . . . We had to stop driving for life safety. 1. How did BMW get away with not including the other yrs with same engine safety issues(ours 2008) and why did a BMW serv. Advisor replace parts for over $1000. 00 knowing that a BMW serv. Bulletin had cited the manufacture defects? 3. Please help with recourse? I am sending title copy for ownership, I am awaiting copies of repairs by BMW (they are being slow / delaying) I am collecting all repair receipts at this time. Again: the vehicle was moving and lost power, stalled and eventually started with lost power.

1. Whenever I refill my tank the car will start knocking. It will be only for 1 or 2 sudden jerks. I have tried every grade and nearly all the brands of fuel but its still the same. Even I escalated the same issue when I had my car service done. But to no avail. It happens when I refuel the tank. Otherwise, no issue to my surprise. I need to know if it’s a known issue? if yes then why no one reached out to me to provide solution for it? its been years I have tried to escalate it but no resolution. 2. When I use turn signals (either left or right) it start skipping click sound. Even when the engine is on and even when auto engine start is switched off. It happens not all the times but occasionally. I also escalated it when I went for service but I was told if its not logged in system then nothing cant be done. For both issues I dont see any resolution. First issue is way too annoying as sometimes I loose power to engine.

Found out USA consumer class action suit is currently under way filed 12/12/19 against BMW for timing chain engine issue. . . Still without relief or vehicle and no personal funds to get car back again hoping for relief from BMW!.

I was stopped at a traffic light and without warning the car accelerated. I sideswiped the car in front of me and proceed to cross a 4 lane highway. I tried to stop but kept going , jumped a curb got on a grassy area did a 360 to a road jumped back on the grass and came to rest in some bushes and wire fence. Damage to drivers side front end. Ihave pictures in my phone, but don't know how to attach them to this form?.

Egr cooler failed at 70,000 +/- miles. Wasn't leaking coolant inside, but was leaking exhaust gasses into cabin and was not covered under recall campaign. BMW could not provide new updated part, but charged us for 'new / old style unit' for about $2600. Tried to work issue out with BMW corp on emission warranty, but was unsuccessful. Vehicle still has unsatisfied recall on it for egr cooler. Vehicle also is not issuing a 'def' notification. I have been in this industry for 44 years and know that this vehicle should be calling for def. I have dealt with this in Ford, peterbilt and kenworth vehicles and BMW's system is not reporting.

Tl-the contact owns a 2017 BMW X3. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph uphill, the vehicle stalled. No warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to park Ave BMW service & parts, 530 huyler street, south hackensack, NJ 07606, they determined that under the rear seat there was a fuel delivery module that somehow got wet and shorted, not delivering fuel to the engine. The contact also stated that the night before there was a cooler in the rear seat that inevertly tilted, speeling some water and ice on top of the rear seat. The vehicle was dry cleaned immediately. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 22,441. Bp.

I leased a 2017 BMW X3 with 3370 miles on it so almost brand new. I have a 7. 6 mile commute from work to home. I was driving home from work around 230pm pst south on the 405 (highway) in los angeles. I pull up to my house and park the vehicle on my city street. I park turn off the vehicle and lock the doors and walk into my house. Within 15 minutes, my neighbor knocks on my door and informs me that my car is on fire. When I look outside at my vehicle, in between the hood of my car and front windshield are spitting flames out onto the windshield. It then proceeded to burn fast and hot and there were 30 foot flames that had ruined our fence as well as singed our neighbors tree. The fire department came and finally took out the flame but the vehicle was completely ruined. The tow truck showed up later but he refused to tow the vehicle because he saw smoke again. The vehicle had caught back on fire on the passenger window side. Airbags had also started blowing up when the second fire caught. I had put my head into the window when the fire was out to retrieve anything that I could but within 10 seconds of pulling my head out of the passenger side another airbag went off and almost took off my head. There was a dual investigation with BMW and my insurance safeco. The investigation is ongoing. Initial report said the defect has something to do with the fuel line. If this car was in a garage or any closer to our house everything would have gone up in flames. Our story was on the news as well. Check engine light on diesel engine come on multiple times since car hit 40k miles. Luckily it's under warrenty, over 10k in repairs in 2 months. New file injectors, oil pump, dtf filter, ect.

On March 4, 2018, while at a red light at an intersection in boca raton, FL, all of sudden, no warning, my BMW X3 started to smell of smoke, then smoke started to come out of the hood. I had to barely make it to the side of the road, leave it at an entrance of a plaza, which then began to smoke overwhelmingly. Once I made it out of the car, the flames came out of the hood and the car became fully engulfed within seconds.

Last week when in city traffic, I depressed the brake to slow down, then lifted my foot off the brake. My car lurched forward and I immediately braked again to slow down and stop. This was not normal, had not happened before, and I decided to mention it during my next visit to BMW service. Last Saturday, Feb. 17, I was driving 20 -25 mph in a neighborhood, approaching a red light on river rd, bethesda. There was one car at the light. I braked to slow down, and realized that the car was not slowing down, braked again and it lurched forward and accelerated. I saw the speed the speedometer moving between 20-25, and the tachometer varying wildly between 1. 5 - 2. 5. I pressed very hard on the brake, which was harder to press down than ever before, pressed the park button and finally got the car to go into park before I arrived at the stopped vehicle in front of me. This all happened in less than 10 seconds. I immediately called BMW and took my car in, explaining what happened, still very shaken and afraid to drive the car. Afterwards, I looked on the internet, and read about other 2013 X3 drivers with the same experience. It did not appear that BMW was able to replicate the problem or that they repaired the cars to fix the problem. One person did have an accident and totaled the car. Thus far, BMW has told me they cannot replicate the problem. I requested the service manager to get involved and will ask to speak to the factory rep as well. This is a major safety hazard putting my life and others at risk. It is not safe to drive my car. I would like to know how many similar complaints have been filed with NHTSA and what NHTSA has done to address this serious safety flaw.

The baffles are loose in my muffler causing a terrible noise. I believe this is also causing my check engine light to come on. My car is running rich. BMW says it's annoying but not causing and issues on my car. They say it's $1,200 to fix. It started out only making the noise sometimes. It then progressed to when standing still. Now it does it even when driving. People constantly ask me what's wrong with my car.

I was arriving at my daughter's home in decatur GA just before 9:00 a. M. On Friday, may 22, 2015. I pulled into her driveway but could see here was no room to park there due to the construction debris next door (from the new house being built). I decided to back out of her driveway and park on the street. I put the BMW X3 in reverse and it slowly (as usual) began moving backwards. With no foot on gas pedal, my car came to a stop at a slight incline. I reached my right foot over and tapped the tip top of my gas pedal, hoping just a small tap of gas could get me over the incline. Just as I did this, the pedal dropped to the floor and the car revved, then lunged backwards. I was holding the brakes as tight as I could and within a few second brought my left leg to help push on brake with both feet. The brake could not stop the full force of the car moving backwards at full throttle, and left black skid marks in her driveway. My car speed in reverse at full throttle across the street narrowly missing a dumpster parked next door and another vehicle driving up the street who witnessed the incident. My car proceeded into the neighbor's yard (directly across the street), crashed into the neighbor's car, pushing their car into the front porch of their house. Both cars were totaled and the house sustained damage. This incident must be investigated. Please contact me for more info and to get access to my car for inspection. People could have been killed!!!.

Urgent urgent urgent - total loss accident and major injury sustained 2005 BMW X3 – picked up on January 7, 2015, from toronto used car dealership major unintended acceleration accident occurred on January 8, 2015 at approximately 10:30 am. Had not owned the vehicle for 24 hours or put more than 160 km on it. The unintended acceleration accident resulted in major property damage, personal injury and total loss of vehicle. Horrific residual effect. At stop position the vehicle revved like an f1 car coming down the straight away. X3 began to shake and a split second later bolted/accelerated on its own. With both feet on the brake from a full stop I went crashing through a large steel overhead garage door, through a concrete barricade and steel railing and into a steel dumpster. Air bag deployed, I was knocked unconscious. Trapped for over an hour. Ems could not extract due to positioning of vehicle being at a 45 degree angle and completely lodged against the dumpster that was located in a loading dock area on the other side of the drive. Preliminary online investigation reveals that this is not the first time BMW has heard of this type of complaint. Contacted BMW to respond they are denying culpability. Have read about several other complaints on line of similar incidents. Submitted request to transport canada for action and investigation. No reply as of January 29, 2015. Any people in canada or the USA who have experienced same unintended acceleration are asked to please get in touch with me as soon as possible. I beg you. This was the most horrific accident I have ever experienced. I will never set foot in another BMW as long as I live. The nightmares are horrific and causing mental trauma. The service engine light soon came on. The dealer diagnosed that the following two need replaced 1) valve cover gasket to fix engine oil leak 2) dmtl pump I cannot comprehend these failures from a brand known for quality at such low milegae. Google search shows many Bmws have had these failures but surprisingly there are no recalls.

Engine turned off on interstate 40 near greensboro, north carolina. Fortunate to be able to pull onto shoulder. Traveling close to 60mph. Started right back up. This is third occurrence in past two months. Never a problem prior; almost two years of ownership. Very scary and dangerous. Please advise on if this is more common than the 40-60 cases I've read about online. What seems to be issue?.

I was driving on an interstate highway going about 65mph when the the engine started cutting off and on and the the eml warning indicator light came on. My car did completely cut off and fortunately I was able to get over to the right shoulder of the interstate. I waited for a few minutes and the car restarted. I called my husband and he met me at my planned destination an hour later. We took the car to the nearest BMW dealership. On the way it cut off again. We finally made it and had the service department run a diagnostic analysis. It showed a malfunction with the eccentric shaft sensor, which basically deals with throttle control. The total cost for replacement was quoted at $1,707. 08. The vehicle (a BMW X3 ) has 92,538 miles on it. This was a very dangerous situation and expensive to repair. I want this on record in case other BMW owners have had a similar problem.

On the first occurrence I braked smoothly at a traffic light that was red as I approached. The vehicle stopped and then the engine revved and lurched forward slowly 3 to 4 times taking me through the intersection as I was pressing on the brake. I could not stop the vehicle. Once through the intersection I took my foot off the brake and applied the gas pedal and drove to a nearby parking lot. When I came out of a store after 45 minutes, I tested the brakes by driving slowly in the parking lot and applying the brakes several times. Each time but one the engine revved while I had my foot deliberately on the brakes, not on the gas or gas and brake. If I removed my foot from the brake, the revving stopped and gas operated appropriately. I drove home and called the dealer who had it towed, checked it out for a couple of days, could not reproduce the problem and said it was fine. It was raining on the day of the occurrence. The second occurrence happened 6 days after the first, another rainy day. I braked at a stop sign. The vehicle stopped and then the engine revved as I was pressing on the brake, then lurched forward once into the intersection. I immediately removed my foot from the brake and drove forward. This did not repeat as I drove home. Again the car was towed to the dealer, checked out by the dealer and an engineer from BMW na and nothing could be reproduced. They told me to take the car home. It had to be my error. I objected that I have never had any similar problem with any other car I've driven including the two BMW loaners they supplied. I told them I was unhappy with the decision not to check it out further especially since they had not made any attempt to test it in the rain. BMW na representative was adamant that it could not be the vehicle.

For nearly the entire time I have owned the vehicle I have had issues with the car jerking and lurching while accelerating in the lower rpm ranges. Of late this has become so bad I am afraid to drive the vehicle. The problem manifests itself mostly between 1,800 and 2,400 rpm with the most severe issues in the 2,200 to 2,400 rpm range. When going from a stop the car will begin to accelerate and when it gets just above 2,000 rpm it begins to jerk and lurch with the tachometer fluctuating wildly. The 4x4 light then comes on and the car completely loses acceleration. This has happened many times while in the middle of a busy intersection. I have been nearly t-boned twice and now fear for my life driving this car.
