2 Wiper problem of the 2018 BMW X3

Failure Date: 05/15/2025

The windshield was replaced due to a crack from road debris. It was replaced with a fuyoa 43r-0117043; dot1038m544as1. The car has head up display. The new windshield is highly reflective when driving during sunny day, and the head up display equipment is reflecting on the windshield in the middle of driver's view and very distracting. The previous windshield had a minimal reflection of head up display during daytime sun but not a driver distraction. BMW service (installed the windshield with oem part) rep drove the car and observed the strong reflection. The service rep checked with BMW engineers who reported this is an issue they are receiving more reports about but the rep said there is nothing BMW will do in response to this safety complaint. He indicated the windshield is oem and to specifications. There are no warning lamps or messages related to the new windshield, only this driver's observation of negative change in view while driving. The reflection does not occur when the car is in the shade.

3 Wiper problem of the 2021 BMW X3

Failure Date: 03/01/2024

In June 2023, I purchased a vehicle from enterprise car sales. Around June 2024, I reached out to them with concerns about the vehicle. They recommended I contact either the insurance or warranty company, but neither could address my issue. I then took the vehicle to the dealership, and they agreed to inspect it. They confirmed that the windshield and rear window molding trim were aftermarket parts, which were causing streaks on the window and obstructing the driver’s view. Additionally, the brakes and tires had been replaced with non-recommended parts, though I was willing to cover the cost of replacing these two items out of pocket.

4 Wiper problem of the 2021 BMW X3

5 Wiper problem of the 2018 BMW X3

Failure Date: 07/20/2023

Something is wrong with the BMW oem windshields with hud. I have had to completely replace 3 in 5 years. In between replacements have had safeliite try and fill pits in it. My last windshield lasted 21 days before cracking on the side at the very edge. I was driving and the road construction had very uneven lane heights so the car was higher on the passenger side. All of the sudden I heard a crack. The was not rock or debris that hit the windshield. There have been lots of complaints about the BMW windshields with hud especially the x series SUV’s. People are saying softer glass. All I know is this is dangerous and BMW is up charging for replacement windshields if you don’t have insurance or a warranty. The cost is in the thousands for the replacement. I’ve never had a car that had such issues with the windshield being damaged so easily and or faulty glass. My last windshield replacement was 6/29/23, cracked 7/20/23.

6 Wiper problem of the 2020 BMW X3

Failure Date: 06/23/2023

When we closed the front driver seat of the car while the car was parked, the back moonroof glass exploded, meaning the glass shattered into a ton of little pieces. Those glass pieces fell all over the back seat. There was no external cause such as something falling on the glass, etc. This happened at the same time as when we closed the front driver door. There were no seen issues with the glass prior to it breaking such as cracks or otherwise, and we had just bought the car BMW certified 2 months prior. BMW has indicated they are not taking responsibility, as they "can't rule out external forces" (although there are clearly none) and told me to reach out to my insurance for coverage. Glass falling all over the back seat is clearly a safety issue.

8 Wiper problem of the 2020 BMW X3

Failure Date: 03/20/2023

This car does not have an accurate speedometer. The analog dial only marks the mph number every 20 miles (eg numbers shown for 20 / 40 / 60. But not for 10 / 30 / 50). So impossible to easily or safely see the speed you are going. There is no digital speedometer showing the mph number.

9 Wiper problem of the 2017 BMW X3

Failure Date: 01/13/2022

Heard a loud boom after just entering the highway and the front sunroof on my 2017 BMW X3 just exploded. Fortunately the cover was closed, most of the glass blew out upon the explosion. Driving around the speed limit at the time of the explosion. Took it the dealer and got a big bill instead.

10 Wiper problem of the 2014 BMW X3

Failure Date: 10/02/2021

On 10/2/2021 my driver side mirror assembly fell off when driver door was closed. On 3/7/2020 my passenger mirror assembly fell off when the passenger door was closed. My safety was at risk when not being able to effectively use mirrors for travel visibility. Others traveling behind me may have if my mirror wires shredded and it became a projectile as in both incidents I was 45 minutes from home. Both times I had to find tape to hold it up. I contacted BMW north America customer relations case #2021-27700837. I was told on 10/8/2021 by supervisor ashley ext. 1461 my vehicle is out of warranty and they do not have reports of mirrors falling off being an issue and would not assist with goodwill for this second incident. Please see in the forum attachment BMW is aware of the faulty mirror assemblies. Ashley informed me my call was recorded. My local mechanic changed the mirror assembly in 2020. See attached invoice. My local mechanic will change the drivers side mirror assembly this week. I had scheduled BMW fort myers FL appt for 10/11/2021 10:00am but service advisor jose quoted an amount $500 higher than walt’s garage. Walt’s initially ordered the assembly from fort myers BMW via parts dept tech michael who held assembly in my name. See walt’s quote attached. There were no warnings that the mirrors would fall off. My vehicle has been garaged both in NJ and FL since I purchased it. A few times I noticed the driver mirror assembly not close when pressing the fold button. This was not noticed for the passenger mirror. I did a web search and have noticed several times individuals complaints of broken BMW mirror assembly. I have attached photos of most relevant case on bimmerforum. Com where a tech saw a mirror fall off. The report dated 5/19/20 shows that they contacted BMW customer relations so they were aware of the fault and also reimbursed the customer. Although the repair shop name was not mentioned it seems that it could have been BMW dealership.

11 Wiper problem of the 2021 BMW X3

Failure Date: 10/01/2021

On many cars including mine, and a family members 2021 8 series, BMW uses a light sensor on the instrument cluster to set the daytime dimming of the digital cluster and backup cameras. However, florida-legal window tint confuses the system, and causes the screens to dim in a way that cannot be overridden or adjusted. There is a setting for screen brightness, however it is only active for night. This has caused difficulties reading the instrument display repeatedly. This is includes: collision warnings, back up camera, vehicle speed, and safety warnings. Here is a video showing the effect on someone else's car. Mine is worse, and driver said that that is gets worse depending on circumstances. Https://streamable. Com/n4tjp4.

14 Wiper problem of the 2019 BMW X3

Failure Date: 02/24/2019

When driving on a sunny day on occasion the sun is reflected from the head up display unit into the driver's eyes or field of vision causing a distraction and difficulty seeing the traffic ahead. The attached picture was taken while the vehicle was stationary in the driveway, but typical of the event when driving 70 mph on an interstate highway. The sun reflection is shown both at the head up unit and on the windshield (positioned near the front of the hood between the actual head up display and the head up unit) heading towards the driver's head. This has happened on 3 occasions over the last 6 months. A BMW engineer at first said they had never heard of this and then became more interested when shown a picture. Some time later BMW called and asked if they could replace the faulty head up unit under warranty and return it BMW for analysis. The picture attached is from the replacement unit, which has the same issue. They claim this new unit was working to BMW specs at the time.

15 Wiper problem of the 2015 BMW X3

Failure Date: 08/04/2018

The rear lift gate window is permanently tinted dark. This makes driving in cloudy, rainy, low visibility and night time very dangerous by greatly reducing visibility thru the rear view mirror!! also, the auto-darkening feature of rear view mirror at night makes it even worse!! this should be a clear window. Talking to local BMW dealer was of no help.

16 Wiper problem of the 2010 BMW X3

Failure Date: 06/30/2017

Rear drivers' side door window regulator has failed twice leaving window stuck open and inoperable. Window was being opened to vent interior after being parked and vehicle was stationary. First time repair was made under cpo warranty with ~39k miles. Second repair made for $750 (cpo warranty had expired). Second regulator failed after less than 10k miles, and only 22 months, from first failure. BMW service technician says "it happens. " BMW does not honor their 2-yr parts warranty for parts replaced when repair is done under warranty (and thence expired). The window regulator(s) appear to be a defective design to break so frequently. The actual failure appears to be with the "window regulator driving dog"(about a $10 part if purchased online) and a tiny plastic piece breaks off.

19 Wiper problem of the 2013 BMW X3

Failure Date: 02/19/2013

On February of 2013 while I was backing out of a parking lot, the rear windshield wiper started by itself and sprayed all the wash fluid until the tank drained and kept making a loud noise (audible from inside and outside of the car) even after I turned off the car engine. I took the car to a dealer and I was told the problem is due to faulty junction box. It took them two weeks to get a new junction box & replace it. After one year, on February 7 2014, the same problem occurred but this time it is the front windshield wiper that started by itself, drained the wash fluid tank and kept making a loud noise. Took the car to a dealer the same day & I'm still waiting for my car to be fixed. I was told BMW is aware of the problem with the junction box with X3 cars and yet they don't notify owners and replace the faulty junction box until after the problem occurs (it usually takes more than a week to get a replacement junction box). In my opinion this could be a safety issue; for instance if the wash fluid tank is drained while the car is being driven in a bad weather day ( such as heavy snow) which requires to frequently clean the windshield, it prevents the drivers ability to clean the windshield and could impair his/ her vision and could lead to an accident. BMW should recall all affected cars and replace the junction box before someone get injured.

20 Wiper problem of the 2011 BMW X3

Failure Date: 07/10/2012

The electrical system on this vehicle no longer functions, ie, the windshield wipers don't work, the headlights operate sporadically, the power door locks and power windows do not operate, the a/c doesn't work, the horn honks periodically, the tailgate won't open to facilitate replacement of fuses. Windshield wipers are a crucial safety item in the pacific NW as are headlights. This incident occurred in bellingham, wa. BMW offered little assistance despite the safety issues and the fact that the car was under BMW's warranty.

21 Wiper problem of the 2007 BMW X3

Problem 1: when in slow and speed turning / turning to stop / stop to turning, a shudder and hesitation occurs. Feels the car is "jumping" more and more obviously. Problem 2: rearview mirrors on both doors had failed to operate. It folded itself automatically when driving on highway. The mirror fell off multiple times. The car was never under impact or in accident.
