3 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2019

Egr valve is faulty causing emissions issues and can lead to overheating. Recalls have been performed on 2009 - 2011 models and 2013 models and newer but not on the 2012 with the same issue.

4 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2019

Experience glycol-leakage from the egr (exhaust-gas-recirculation) valve can occur. In combination with typical soot deposits and the high temperatures normally present in the egr module this might result in smoldering particles. This could lead to the melting of the intake manifold and in extremely rare cases result in a fire. BMW extended a recall to european and asian models but not the us my car has only 51000 miles. . 5 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2019

Emission light came on while driving on a highway. BMW diagnosed it was a faulty dmtl pump (leak diagnosis pump). Dealer (BMW) declined cover under emission warranty.

6 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2019

I was driving my car at 35 miles per hour suddenly the car lost power steering wheel locked so it was hard to keep control of the vehicle. I tried restarting the car but with no results. A policeman had to stay behind me all the time for over an hour until a towing truck came to tow the car. BMW diagnoste the car before with a fuel rail regulator. So I went and replaced that component still the car did not want to start!?. So I towed it to BMW after 4 days of diagnostics that they said the diagnostics itself is $1900! they came to a conclusion that the fuel high pressure pump failed and contaminated the fuel system and broke the injectors and messed up the whole fuel system. Their estimate to replace the whole is over $11000! and to just replace the failed and clean up the fuel system it will cost me over $4000. The car is only $75000 how would a major failure happen to that component. There was no misfueling, they checked the diesel and they said it is not gas and it does not have water either. I have read where other people complaining from the same issue fuel high pressure pump failure. If I were on a highway and since the car did not give any notice or message I think I would have been in an accident since the car just shut down with no warning or sign.

7 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2018

My car has pcv heater check engine light code coming on and off. BMW is forced by NHTSA to do recall on BMW car fire but only cover up to production model thru December 2011. My car has June 2012 production, the pcv heater valve check engine light has been on and off from last year, I had replaced hvac heater valve (wrong diagnose for part specific from my mechanic) but now I find out there is a recall for it, but not covering my year. Please advise me if NHTSA can make BMW extend the recall year coverage? thank you.

8 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2018

On August 7, 2018, I was traveling on interstate 95 in maryland (north of baltimore) in route to new york state. During the highway drive, my BMW drastically reduced speed to 10 miles per hour and the check engine light came on and stayed on. I had to move my car to a safe place to avoid being hit by the other vehicles on the highway. I could not continue to drive my car. And, I was worried about my safety and was at risk due to the BMW car issue. I called aaa and my car was towed to passport BMW in suitland, maryland for repair. On August 8th, passport evaluated my car and diagnosed the problem. I was informed by passport BMW that my car engine problem was due to a faulty fuel ignition system which had to be replaced. I approved this over $570 repair to my car. However, when I picked up the car, the engine light was still on. Again, I was concerned since my car was repaired by BMW yet the problem had not been fixed since the engine light was still on. I contacted the service advisor to inform him of the problem. He apologized and requested that I bring the car back in to passport BMW on the next day. The next day, I brought the car in to passport BMW, I was informed that the catalytic converter, an estimated $3388 repair, needed to be replaced. My car has been in for BMW service maintenance and recall repairs several time. My car was in for maintenance several times and was not accurately diagnosed or repaired. There is no indication that the repair diagnosed on August 8th fixed the problem that caused my car to stop running on the highway on August 7th. I paid for that repair in August and it did not fix the check engine problem and want to be reimbursed for this expense. I am concerned about the numerous repairs to my BMW despite the fact that my car has been serviced by the passport BMW service department.

9 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2018

Engine malfunction light and car overheating caused by water pump, there's no recall for my VIN but it seems this is an ongoing issue with BMW X5 models. . . The BMW did a recall on my X5 and after they finished the recall the transfer case stopped working properly, however, the transfer case was working perfectly before the recalled. The BMW power train recall damage the transfer case.

10 Other Fuel System problem

I am writing this letter to seek helps on my 2012 bwm X5 35d (VIN#: 5uxzw0c51cl672437). I have experienced diesel smell in the cabin in the last couple of months and I got engine check light came on last week. We checked the code it saying the egr cooler is bad and egr valve is not operating. I want to know is there any recall or campaign regarding this part. This is an environmental emission and human health related issue. I recall I saw this part has an extended warranty 10 years/120000 miles. I have been a loyal bwm owner since 2002 and I will continue to do so. But this diesel smell issue is concerning me since it's health related, especially we have two kids in the car every day.

11 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2018

Despite replacing brake sensors, brake pads and rotors break wear light illumination on dashboard dealer unable to fix issues at 70000 miles defective exhaust back pressure sensor.

12 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2017

I'm writing to you regarding my 2012 BMW X5m. On October 8, 2017 I was driving my car and suddenly the check engine light came up and almost immediately the car lost power and a very loud banging noise start coming up from the front of the car. I was in the middle of a busy intersection when this happened and the car could barely move. I pulled over as soon as I was out of the intersection and got the car towed to the nearest BMW authorize dealer - BMW of silver spring, MD (3211 automobile blvd, silver spring, MD 20904). After a few conversations with the dealer I was told that I have to replace the entire engine and that there will be no effort made to determine the reason for the engine failure. The car is a well maintained vehicle and I have records for all the maintenance work done. That includes oil changes done every 5,000- 7,000 miles. I told the dealer that I suspect the issue could be a faulty fuel injector. The symptoms I shared with the BMW dealer were rough starts, rough idle and fuel smell were present especially the day we towed the car in. The dealer refused to accept any of the shared information and denied my request for the fuel injectors to be checked although they are under extended warranty. As a result, I was given no choice but pay the cost of the entire engine replacement. The dealer refused to give me the old engine back because I wanted it inspected to check whether a faulty injector was the reason for the engine failure.

13 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2016

Bought it used 58k miles , on first day the battery died, took it to BMW dealer, labor+parts+programming $475! only after 4yrs the battery failed ? after 2 months engine overheating, towed the car to the dealer, water bump +thermostat +flushing coolant and a few more flushing all trans, etc plus aliment, $1800 for water bump and thermostat+ the other things all together came up to $2500 after$300 discount, we went to pickup the car asked for discount and got the bill down to $1978. Very very disappointed about the quality of BMW and electric water pump that fails and needs to be replaced on almost every BMW only after like 30k and up? unlike other cars water pump will fail after 150k-200k miles.

14 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2015

We used out 2012 BMW X5 diesel for a round trip of mn to FL. October of 2015. We had the vehicle serviced prior to departure and asked if there was anything we needed to be aware of for the long trip. Upon return trip back to mn we were alerted by the system monitor that the diesel exhaust fluid (def) was low. We were 5 hours into our 18 hour trip from FL to mn. It was Saturday after 1:00 pm and we stopped to add def to the system. The fill port on the X5 would only accept 4 oz of def with repeated attempts to fill the reservoir. We used the internet to search the problem and found that with out the BMW container of def the reservoir would not accept enough def to fill the system. We also discovered that there are two reservoirs. The BMW manual did not state that the BMW bottle was needed nor that there are two reservoirs. We could not purchase the BMW bottle as no BMW dealerships were open, nor would they be the next day. The BMW system also stated that the engine would shut down after the 200 mile limit was reached. We had to stay overnight in our current location and then drive 12 hours the next day, Sunday, with out shutting the engine off as if we did the BMW override would shut the engine down and we verified that fact on the web. We made it home and as soon as we shut the engine down it was disabled. We purchased the BMW def bottle and filled they reservoirs. The system did not rest and the vehicle had to be towed to the dealer. It took them 3 days to reset the system and then discover the O2 sensors were now not functioning and needed to be replaced, due to the def issue. Cost of the O2 sensor replacement is $2000. 00. The system will leave you stranded. BMW's owner manual is incorrect and no one will tell you that you need the BMW engineered def bottle to refill they system. We contacted BMW north America without any results.

15 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2013

Shortly after starting the car it went into safe mode when I was on a busy road with a 55 mph speed limit which was under construction and reduced to one lane with no shoulder or place to safely pull over. Thus, I was in a dangerous situation and also obstructing traffic and putting other drivers at risk as well.

16 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2013

Same thing as last time. Started up the car, got it out of the driveway and the engine failed. Tried to start it again, the engine kept turning over and finally started up enough to go into the tow truck. At the BMW dealership again.

17 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2013

I tried to start up the car, it started, I drove a few feet, and then failed. I received a warning message saying that the engine malfunctioned. I was in the middle of the parking lot so I managed to get it to start again, it barely moved, and then failed again. One more time I was able to start it and get it into a parking space. I tried to start it up multiple times again but nothing happened. I called BMW to have it towed.

18 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2012

While driving at about 45 mph the engine sputtered with a message displaying "engine malfunction" and the vehicle lost power and stalled all happening within about 5 seconds. The vehicle was then towed to the BMW dealership. We were advised by their master technician that the fuel pressure rail sensor was defective and needed to be replaced (diag code: d1350_00000000_04_02 and fault 48a9 & 3f31). We asked him if this could somehow be prevented and he replied "no" and went on to say that he has never heard of this happening before. His comment was troubling to us, since we just got done driving about six hours on the freeway when this incident happened near our home. What if this happened on the freeway? I probably would not be here filing this complaint! please investigate so that this can be prevented from others experiencing this trauma.
