Eight problems related to other fuel system pump have been reported for the 2012 BMW X5. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While driving home on the most dangerous highway in colorado, my vehicle suddenly went from doing 75mph to 50mph during traffic hour, almost causing my vehicle to get into an accident, with my family in the car. So very dangerous. The engine light and the engine malfunction message came on. I was able to merge off the highway and have my car and have a mechanic take a look at it. The error code is p15df (high pressure fuel pump). I did some research on this and found that BMW had been taken to court on this safety issue. BMW had recalled 1000's of BMW's for this exact same issue. I wrote to BMW customer relations and their response basically is that my car's VIN does to qualify for this recall. I stated to them that it should be recalled because it has the exact same problem as the 1000's that were recalled. In reality they do not want to pay for it. I feel that my vehicle should be recalled to include 1000's of other X5's, before someone is killed.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 BMW X5. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle suddenly shut off without warning. The vehicle was towed to momentum BMW (10002 southwest fwy, houston, TX 77074) where it was diagnosed that the high pressure fuel pump failed. The manufacturer was also contacted and did not assist. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
The contact owns a 2012 BMW X5. While driving approximately 30 mph, the check engine warning and low power mode indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to walser BMW auto campus of wichita (11000 e 13th st n, wichita, KS 67206, phone: (316) 221-3841) where it was diagnosed that the high pressure fuel pump failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. In addition, while attempting to drive the vehicle, the check engine and low power mode indicators illuminated again. The vehicle was taken back to walser BMW where it was diagnosed that the vanos solenoid failed, there were metal shavings in the oil, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 75,140.
Hesitation starting the car, diagnosis by dealer was fuel pump failing. Mileage was 65,000. Cost to repair 1500. 00. I see there was a recall for model years 2008-2011.
My fuel pump has been failing to create the correct amount of pressure in the fuel line, on and off, for several months, resulting in the vehicle suddenly operating at "reduced power" when driving. This then causes me a safety issue as I can no longer maintain proper speeds, especially when on the highway. It also causes me to have to restart the vehicle several times in a row as the vehicle often stalls out several times before finally achieving the proper pressure. My vehicle is model year 2012, which BMW states is outside of the current recall. It appears that my vehicle is having the issues outlined in the recall 16v-746. My request here is to have the recall amended to include my make model and year of vehicle.
Engine lose power at highway speed due to fuel pump!! it happened more than once on the highway and car won't go to the posted speed limit. Turn car off and restart again everything works fine for few days.
The fuel pump suddenly failed while driving on the highway at 75 mph (legal speed limit) with no warning and caused a stall condition. I noticed they (BMW) have a new recall for up to the 2011 model year but they need to include the 2012 as well.
While driving at around 35 mph, engine started to stutter, shake violently, then completely shut off, leaving no power assist to steering or brakes. Vehicle remained dead in the middle of a heavily traveled two lane road. After attempting to restart several dozen times, vehicle finally stayed on enough to pull to side of road, then shut down again. Again after numerous attempts to restart, vehicle was able to turm the corner onto a residential street where it proceeded to shut down once again. Engine failure message appeared on vehicle information display as well as engine warning lights on dashboard. While waiting for tow truck, the vehicle sat for 15 minutes before I attempted to restart. After about a dozen attempts, vehicle restarted, but this time with no error messages or dashboard warning lights. After several additional stalls, vehicle restarted but this time with the vehicle information display indicating "engine malfunction" and additional wording stating "reduced power available" (limp home mode) and "safe to drive". Based on the message and the fact the car restarted, I attempted to drive home. On the highway (long island expressway) while approaching highway speeds (45 mph) the engine again shook violently, stumbled, and shut off leaving no power steering or power brakes. Unfortunately, a tractor trailor was bearing down on my position from the rear and nearly struck my vehicle, due to the sudden power loss and catastrophic engine failure. Beyond the failure of the high pressure fuel pump (per BMW dealership), the vehicle information system is flawed as it did not remember the first catastrophic engine failure and instead reset itself. It advised although there was an engine malfunction, it was safe to drive with reduced power available. A catastrophic engine event like that should result in a warning and advisement not to drive the vehicle.
