BMW X5 owners have reported 5 problems related to air conditioner (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Air conditioning quit working on day 2 of ownership. Dealer says the compressor needs to be replaced and there is a lead time between 2 weeks and 2 months. After purchasing a car that cost about $125,000 and driving it one time, it had to be sent to the shop. Since it is so hot where I live, driving the car is out of the question. BMW did give me a loaner car, but the value of the loaner is about 45% of the car I purchased.

While the air conditioner is on hot air blows out through the dash and floor vents. Happens while stationary, in motion, highway and city driving. Suspect it is the pcv valve.

In 5 years since I bought this vehicle new, I have had to replace the air conditioner evaporator 4 times. The first three times were covered under warranty, and the last one I had to pay for out-of-pocket.
