My cross traffic warning system is inoperative. Dealer said the sensors are operating normally. This is a safety hazard.
The rear cross traffic warning does not work. I have backed up and a vehicle is coming right behind me and I thank goodness stop by pressing on the brake when I spotted the vehicle in the car camera.

The rear cross traffic sensor does not warn when there is oncoming traffic. It puts me, my passengers and other cars at a safety risk. BMW palm springs investigated and tested and states that the system is not providing any error messages. But in physical testing the system does not work as described in the BMW marketing video [xxx] . I have owned this car for six months and the rear cross traffic sensor has never worked. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
You get no warning when backing out of a parking spot all features are on but no warning.

Rear cross traffic alert does not work in the subject car. BMW owners' manual describes a system that should alert from two parking spaces away while backing out, the system gives no alert as described. What follows is my post to a BMW owner's group where members are discussing similar issues with their vehicles. This problem is a large one and needs to be investigated. Rear cross traffic alert is a critical safety system. "regional field service rep spent several hours last week with the car. Made some updates/integrations and declared the systems now working. I did some controlled testing in a parking lot in reverse with both brake applied and rolling in reverse. Zero visual or acoustic alert from the rear cross traffic alert system. I am convinced BMW and the dealers are trying to cover up this colossal failure of a very important and basic safety feature BMW says they sold us! I will give corporate one more try and then will report to NHTSA that BMW has a major defect in their cars. " I am scheduled to talk with the regional BMW engineer in the next two weeks. Is there a means for me to update this submission?.
The rear cross traffic warning basically does not work. This is very dangerous as I have been in the process of back out of a parking space and there will be a car right behind me or approaching very close to my car, and I get no warning at all. It also does not warn me where a person is walking behind my car. The BMW dealership said I needed a software update, but that did not fix the problem. The rear cross traffic warning has never worked. I had my car for almost one year and have never gotten a warning. After researching this issue online, I found out this is a common problem with all BMW owners. This is extremely dangerous! I have owned less expensive cars that had great rear cross training warnings. Very frustrating!.

1. Cross traffic warning will warn me so late or sometimes not at all. No sound the most of the time. Can’t trust the safety of this future if it’s not alerting right on time. 2. Forward collision warning doesn’t work.

When in reverse, the vehicle doesn't give any warning (audio or visual) that a person or vehicle is approaching on either side.
My 2020 X5 is equipped with rear cross traffic warning however it does not warn when traffic is crossing. The car will be in reverse, I can be very close to either a car or a person and there are no audible or visual warnings until the object stops moving or is within inches of the vehicle. I have taken it to my dealership several times however they are stating its in full working function even though it does not do what BMW advertises how that system should work. This is both very dangerous and false advertising by BMW! I have videos to prove this claim however the upload section doesn't allow videos.

When reversing out of driveway/parking space, the rear cross traffic warning alert doesn't give any warning until my vehicle is inches from another vehicle. The system isn't sensitive enough.
System fails to notify me of pedestrians/cross traffic when backing out of driveway, parking lots, etc. Multiple near misses. Orange/red shadows on screen do not appear. Ditto for beeps.
Backing out of my garage to a street with a 25 mph speed limit, the vehicle is supposed to alert the driver with a warning sound and or brake if a vehicle is crossing behind the vehicle. This feature has never worked and the dealer can't find any problem. This condition has been report on several internet websites with no resolution.
Driver seat is ripped at the base interior the seat frame is not mounted to the base.
The rear cross traffic alert on this vehicle either does not work at all or, when it does work, it is ineffective in warning the driver. I brought the vehicle into my BMW dealer and they told me that it is operating as intended. In most cases, when backing out of a parking space or my driveway, I get no warning at all. In some cases, I did get some faint warning that was not obvious enough to actually get my attention. Many times, when I was backing up, I almost was hit by a passing car because I expected to get a warning and did not. There is a very large number of complaints about this problem on the internet. Unfortunately, I did not see these complaints before buying the vehicle. Had I known that this safety feature was ineffective in what it was designed to do, I would not have bought the vehicle. I am actually considering selling vehicle after only 7 months of ownership and taking a loss as a result of this problem. If there is a loss to be taken, it should be by BMW not me as the consumer. I believe that BMW has committed fraud with respect to rear cross traffic alert. They falsely represent that the vehicle has rear cross traffic alert which is a material fact known by them to be false. Buyers, to their own detriment, rely on this false representation in deciding to buy the vehicle. The buyer is not getting an important safety feature that they paid for and the absence of the safety feature puts them at risk of a collision.
