1 Tire problem of the 2005 BMW X5

Failure Date: 06/20/2025

I purchased a used pirelli scorpion strada 255/55r18 109v tire (dot code 1un l4w990 4221) for my SUV. When I returned home from the installation, the tire appeared normal. However, the next morning—within 24 hours of installation—I began driving for work when my car suddenly started shaking violently and pulling hard to the right while on the freeway around 3 am. I was able to safely exit the freeway and pull over. Upon inspection, I discovered that the tire had been shredded by the road—the sidewall had catastrophically failed, and the inner structure had separated. The tire had good tread and showed no signs of damage before the incident. This was a sudden and dangerous failure that placed me at serious risk of losing control of the vehicle. It occurred under normal driving conditions at moderate freeway speed. There were no prior warning signs, dashboard messages, or visible damage. The tire was manufactured in October 2021 at pirelli’s rome, georgia plant. The failure appears consistent with belt separation or internal delamination. The damaged tire has been preserved and is available for inspection. I believe this tire may be part of a defective batch and am reporting this for safety investigation. There are similar complaints online regarding pirelli tires made in this timeframe.

2 Tire problem of the 2017 BMW X5

Failure Date: 02/20/2023

I purchased (2) scorpion pirelli verde run flat 255/50r19 107h ms all season tires from orr BMW, shreveport louisiana on 02/10/2023. On 02/20/2023 in less than 15 miles from home I got a low pressure notice and proceeded to the stop and put air in the tire so that I could return the car home. Upon exiting my vehicle I could hear the air leaking from the tire but a visual inspection did not show any cuts, nails, or punctures. I called orr and was told to bring the tier/car in. I had to pay ($250) to have the vehicle towed to them and was charged $82 by orr to mount and balance a replacement tire. I was told that the tire had a cut in it but was never shown. On my way to work this morning and the other tire that was purchased on 02/10/2023 is registering low tire pressure. So it appears that the (2) tires purchased are defective tires!.

3 Tire problem of the 2022 BMW X5

Failure Date: 07/26/2022

The pirelli p-zero tires that came factory equipped on my 2022 BMW X5 have experienced 3 separate sidewall failures in less than the first 20,000 miles on the vehicle. The tire sizes are staggered, 275/40r21front and 315/35r21 rear. The first instance occurred on 07/26/2022, traveling down the interstate, when both passenger side run flat tires blew out the sidewalls at approximately 15,000 miles. The sidewalls blew out to a point that the “run flat” functionality of the tire was compromised, requiring BMW to tow the vehicle to the nearest BMW dealership. At the time of the failure, a alert immediately appeared on the vehicles screen informing of the loss of tire pressure. The next incident occurred on 10/08/2022, at 19,900 miles, I was in my garage, showing my vehicle to a friend from out of town, when I noticed a large slit in the sidewall and a bulging section around the slit on my front driver’s side tire. The tire is currently still pressurized, but is not safe to continue operating.

4 Tire problem of the 2018 BMW X5

Failure Date: 08/26/2021

My BMW X5 has pirelli scorpion verde run flat tires. 255/50/r 19. For the second time in three months a tire blew and caused extensive damage to my car. Both incidents have taken place on the interstate going 80 mph. No tire warning light came on until the tire had already blown each time. The car has been regularly serviced at BMW dealerships. The first time my two kids were along and they were scared to death, as you might imagine. The first blow out of the rear right back tire happened in may 2021 and caused more than $10,000 in damage to my vehicle. The blow out on August 26, 2021 was the front driver's side tire. In may I filed a claim to my insurance, but am hesitant to this time as it will increase my rates. I paid $625 this week to have my vehicle towed on a flat bed to the nearest BMW dealership. I reached out to pirelli and after an hour an half on the phone and being put on hold multiple times, I was able to share the issue with the company and they have said they will be responding. I have also asked the local BMW dealership to assist. Consumer stated latest tire that blew was mailed to pirelli and claim was filed.

6 Tire problem of the 2016 BMW X5

Failure Date: 07/16/2019

Driver was traveling on a highway at approximately 55 mph when they heard a loud noise at the rear of the car and felt the steering become unsteady. Driver looked at rear view mirror and saw a black object fly from the rear of the car onto the highway. Driver pulled onto the shoulder and found that a large piece of the rear passenger side tire was gone. The tread on one of the rear pirelli scorpion verde tires had peeled off the tire. The impact from the loose tread caused damage to the rear of the car. At no time did the tire lose air pressure nor did any warning lights turn on to indicate any tire trouble. Luckily no other vehicles on the highway were hit by the large tire tread which flew from the car and into oncoming highway traffic.

7 Tire problem of the 2013 BMW X5

Failure Date: 05/03/2018

2 of 4 pirelli verde scorpion - run flat (255/55 r18 109h m + s all season run flat) tires have failed due to inner wall separation within 30 days. Both were front tires on my 2013 BMW X5 35d. These are run flat tires that both failed within 30 days of each other. The "inner wall" had completely seperated from the first tire rendering it flat. The second tire to fail did not go flat but had a cupping in the center and caused a steering wheel vibration. The tires were both replaced and deemed unsafe by les schwab (tire vendor). This particular car is equipped with tire pressure sensors and I can testify that the tire pressures where all at the psi posted on the outside of the tire. These are not a staggard set and are all 4 wheels the same.

Failure Date: 12/04/2010

The dealer atlantic Subaru (124 waterhouse rd bourne, MA 02532). Sold me a used 2007 BMW X5 with tires below 2/32. It is my understanding that in MA they need to be 4/32 to the wear bar. I have documentation from my BMW dealer showing the correct depth. This car was represented as to have not been in an accident and once it arrived it was obviously repaired. Do I have any recourse with you? tim wasmer 303-917-5000.
