On Saturday may 6th 2017. I was driving when I heard this noise to my untrained ear it seemed as if the noise was coming from my front tires? I pulled over got out to check my front tires/wheel's and there was nothing, I get back into my vehicle and start driving again after a few minutes the same noise could be heard again so once again I pulled over got out and checked my tires/wheels and undercarriage. As I am looking there is nothing hanging or loose, I get back into the vehicle and started to head towards my house I was only about 6 blocks away from home so I call my fiance and asked he to come outside (I wanted her to drive the vehicle just a little so that I could see if my wheels were doing anything strange, this would help me to better explain what I through was happing to my vehicles wheels/tires) as soon as I hang the phone up I slowed down to go over a speed hump at the time I did not notice but I had lost power in the vehicle as I tried to use my breaks the vehicle did nothing and I do mean nothing so now I am rolling straight and go through two stop signs hoping and praying that one hits me, due to the vehicle having no power. A message shows up on the screen saying transmission malfunction the malfunction maybe resolved by restarting. Contract nearest BMW center if necessary. Use emerg. Release to disengage park detention prior to towing or pushing vehicle. Now mine you this message only showed after the vehicle lost all power. As I am going through the second stop sign there is a slightl/small hill that I went up and the vehicle lost enough speed that I was able to smash the brakes real hard to stop the vehicle from moving. A car all most hit me in the rest because of this action, and now I am sitting on this slight hill holding my foot on the break. Once the vehicle was towed to a BMW dealership I was told about the driveshaft recall.

While vehicle is running transmission malfunction code comes on and vehicle instantly loses power. Almost been rear ended on highway several times. Spent 1000 recently on transmission parts. Researched and found out this is a soft ware issue and BMW has not acknowledged although thousands of reports have been filed-some by owners with only 1000 miles on them this has been an ongoing issue that BMW has ignored.

While driving on the highway, the dashboard give error that the transmission has failed. Car loses power and would not accelerate. Pulled over to the sign and turned off engine. Subsequently, engine will not start or crank as if battery power is list. Engine can be restarted with a jumper or if the car is left for about 30 minute to an hour, the engine will start without a jumper.

Engine, acceleration shutdown (on interstate highway - 2/26/16); monitor display false message of "warning: engine hot; overheating. " engine not hot or overheated; cool to touch. Coolant level full. Car disabled. Car gave 45 seconds at full acceleration before sounding high pitched fan noise, then displaying "warning message" on center monitor, then losing pedal acceleration power on extremely busy interstate 87 south highway at night, with intermittent emergency shoulder access. Dangerous to maintain maneuverability to safety with high velocity trucks and cars barreling alongside vehicle. Suspected part defect is "electronic temperature gauge" sensor, causing car to instantly disable when it isn't hot. Car is seldom driven and under 40,000 miles. . Read more...
In October of 2015 while making a right turn very slowly into a one lane drive thru, my BMW X5 accelerated climbed up a 2 foot wall that was on the drivers side rode the front drivers side wheel upon the wall. I tried to break and pull the hand brake the car would not stop. I turned the steering wheel to the right the car hopped off the wall on to the ground and I turned off the car. The car just accelerated so fast and hard my sister and I could not believe how it climbed the tile wall with one wheel and came down to the ground. Now I had just got the car back from the dealership 5 days earlier when they replaced the water pump and replaced the 2 front tires and did a wheel alignment a $2500. 00 job. It was very scary luckily there was no people or another car close by. I immediately called the dealership and took it in the next morning. I explained what happened I felt that the car had a malfunction with the accelerator it made the car go so fast and hard. It wasn't just a crash into the wall it climbed the wall. Of course BMW said the engineer said there is nothing wrong with the brakes or drive shaft? what gets to me is that I just got the car back from the local dealership. I feel like the power of the vehicle was so strong and powerful there was no way that it could hop on the wall like that and not just crash straight into the wall. Oh side note the very next morning 10-12-2015 my sister heard on abc morning news that a BMW SUV just ran into a glass window at a store the car accelerated on it's own!.
Tried to complete a 3-point turn into a parking space when placing vehicle from reverse into drive, the vehicle unassisted it acceleration and would not brake nor steer; thus causing myself to crash head on into a concrete barrier.

Severe acceleration delay from a stop pulling out into traffic nearly caused me to be broadsided. During the first 1/2 to 1 second after depressing the accelerator there is little to no reaction from the vehicle. After this pause, which is well beyond what could cause an accident, the vehicle surges uncontrollably. I found myself sideways on a wet paved road. My natural inclination after the pause was to press for more gas, any other reaction would have left me sitting in the middle of oncoming traffic. This complaint is well documented when researching BMW acceleration lag or throttle tip in on the internet. It is incredible that BMW would be able to allow such unsafe programing of their vehicles. This is sure to have caused accidents. I was lucky, others may not be.
After changing the battery, the vehicle has no operating dash lights, gauge indications, turn signals, or bright lights. Additionally, the windshield wiper continuously swipes, but has no ability to spray washer fluid or change the speed of the swipe. These conditions render it difficult to drive and see through the windshield, especially at night, and prevents the operator from monitoring the vehicle, identifying ones speed, or signaling a turn. Moreover, the continuous windshield wiper action impairs one's ability to see and is also distracting; making it dangerous to drive the vehicle.

I drive a 2006 BMW X5. This morning while completely stopped in the drive thru of the bank at the window, reaching into the open drawer for a deposit slip, my BMW accelerated wide open on its own. I distinctly looked down and my foot was on the brake. The car was moving extremely fast and the engine was revving as if the gas was pressed even though my foot was on the brake. The drive thru opened up into a long parking lot. I was able to pull up the parking brake to stop the car. It was so scary and I was at the point to make a decision to get into traffic, if I could make the turn or to hit a retirement building. Once the car stopped, I put it in park and turned it off. I checked to ensure there was not anything on the gas pedal and there was not. This is a major issue and I am so thankful to god, he allowed me to stop this car. This has to be some type of defect.

Tl-the contact owns a 2003 BMW X5. The contact stated while driving at an unknown speed attempting to engaged the brakes, the vehicle began to accelerate at full speed. The vehicle crashed into a tree. The vehicle was deemed destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000. Pam.
Pedestrian (daytime) warning and avoidance system activated spontaneously on an empty street - there was no pedestrian in sight and no car in front of me. The car automatically suddenly braked violently and a truck right behind me almost hit me. I feel this is a serious safety issue as it has potential for a serious accident if this were to happen again in a more crowded street. It is disconcerting to drive a car that may suddenly brake without warning!.

Floor mats (factory installed) have an adhesive velcro on the underside to attach to the floor of the vehicle. In the heat the adhesive holding the velcro becomes unattached allowing the floor-mat to shift forward and depress the accelerator.
Hello, my name is yong won kang. I am 77 years old man and more than 50 years driving experience. I bought BMW X5 October 2013 from tenafly BMW dealership. This car was my lifetime dreamed car. Like a BMW sales slogan ¿ultimate driving machine¿ I would like to have an experience BMW car¿s joy of driving. But after few month later I was disappointed to have BMW X5. When I drive to accelerate push the gas car dose not respond as quickly as pushing gas. So I told the mechanic my problem they did software upgrade. After software upgrade car was good responding drive. But few weeks later back to old condition. These things four more times I did. Could you possibly help me out of these problems and my frustration? here are my problems: 1. Sluggish and hesitating running when acceleration 2. Between transmission and gasoline sensor problem?!(I think) 3. Not smooth transition and feel heavy moving 4. This is not BMW X5 power running weak. 5. Driving terribly heavily responding. 6. I was reclled for front airbag.

When I was driving around 30 mph and about to merge onto the highway, an orange warning sign came up that the engine was overheating and then immediately afterward a red sign came up stating that the engine was overheated and I could hear the loud noise from the fan. Immediately after that the vehicle stalled and I had to pull over to the shoulder. I waited for about 15 min. And when I restarted the vehicle, the fan was still loud and the red engine overheated sign came up again. I then had the vehicle towed to a repair facility. They diagnosed the issue as a defective electric water pump and said that the water pump and thermostat need to be replaced. The estimate for repair including parts and labor is around $1700. 00. The vehicle is beyond the 4 year, 50000 miles warranty and apparently there are no recalls for this issue. Searching the internet, I am seeing numerous complaints from 2008 BMW X5 owners who experienced this exact same issue and had the same diagnosis. This is a very serious safety issue - when driving on a busy highway and suddenly losing all power in the vehicle, very few drivers would be lucky enough to pull over safely and avoid a serious accident. I request that the NHTSA consider this serious safety issue from a recall perspective due to the potential harm it can do to the lives of motorists who may not be lucky enough to avoid a serious crash. I believe the manufacturer should be held accountable for the basic safety of the vehicle. They should the needful to help owners fix the issue proactively, before it causes harm to more motorists.
Right rear sunroof drain did not drain properly causing electrical malfunction including failure of all safety and dash gauges - (including speedometer, gas gauge) on interstate at freeway speed. Repairs exceed $1,500. 00.
In March of this year my X5 had the increased engine noise, check engine light coming on, and stalled on I-80 in omaha. I got the car pulled over and started again. I then had husker auto of Lincoln ne (BMW shop) look at it. This has not happened again to date. In June I get a letter from BMW about the safety recall of vanos assembly bolts. The description of the problem fit my situation back in March. I took the letter to husker auto but they said I had to wait for another letter from BMW. I have approached husker auto twice more since June, with same story from them. My question to you, is there anything your administration can do about BMW not acting timely on the X5 recall issue?.
My 2011 X5 35i has an acceleration delay. BMW has recognized it as an issue in the 535i models, calling it an "acceleration delay" and have issued an sib software update to repair it, but have not done so for the X5 model. I feel this issue is dangerous and a safety issue.
When let go of brake after stopping at red light, very often that this vehicle makes a suddent jump. This happens so often that cause a safety concern.

The transmission mechatronic sealing sleeve leaked fluid and left puddle of oil/fluid on my garage floor. The early diagnosis showed engine oil leak and eventually concluded it was transmission fluid leak recently, while the vehicle leaked the fluid during a long period of time that we don't know how much it leaked already. The transmission is a sealed unit and owner has no way to check the fluid level via a dipstick or any mean. The automatic sensor system only checks engine oil, brake fluid, power steering fluid, etc but not reports transmission fluid level. So, there is no way any BMW owner would know if the transmission fluid is low or totally empty. This would post safety issue if a vehicle breaks down in a middle of traffic due to transmission fluid leak problem without any warning sign. Furthermore, BMW has published a technical service information "si b 24 08 06" dated March 2010 for this particular problem. BMW did not notify owner to check the vehicle for sign of transmission fluid leak, nor asked dealer to inspect the vehicle during service visits. As a matter of fact, my 2007 X5 has never been inspected for this problem but it clearly had this problem! considering it is a low mileage vehicle, this problem should not exist normally. Thus, the workmanship or material BMW used in the (transmission) assembly factory has poor quality and causes this safety concern. There was a saying if a vehicle was driven too much, or a vehicle was sitting there or not been driven for a period of time, it would have this problem. Such a saying should not be a factor of design or quality control of BMW (or any) vehicle and I urge BMW recalls all vehicle to check for transmission leak due to this problem and pays for all necessary repair.
