The airbag sensor in my passenger seat has failed. I have been quoted approximately $2000 to repair this. However researching online I see BMW service bulletin sb-10056703-9690 which indicates this may be a widespread problem? https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/tsbs/2014/sb-10056703-9690. Pdf I am concerned to take passengers in the vehicle as I do not know if the airbags will deploy, or deploy at the wrong "rate" based on my understanding of how the sensors work.
Recently purchased a 2008 BMW Z4. After a week of ownership the airbag light came on. Fault code points to the passenger seat occupancy sensor oc3. BMW issued a 15 year extended warranty to many BMW models including the 2006 and 2007 Z4 with comfort seats, but not to the 2008 model. This repair costs upwards of $1500 and is safety related. BMW needs to step up and cover all affected models!.
My car had approximately 65k miles on it when the light on the dashboard indicated an issue. It was manufactured in 08/06. Reading from the computer indicated a passenger occupancy mat failure. BMW extended the warranty for 10 years through model year 05 but won't do anything for 2006. I called BMW USA and escalated it. They called me back and stated it will not be covered. I am concerned that this may prevent the airbag from operating in case of a collision for the passenger. There are many complaints about the 2006 model occupancy mat with this my and I think BMW should be forced to cover this safety hazard. The car was purchased from BMW dealer as a pre-owned certified car under full warranty. The dealer would not address repairs under the current recalls. Reference defect investigation ea08001, NHTSA campaign id number: 08v384000; passenger seat occupancy pad cracked causing air bag light that remains on. Unclear which (if any) airbags are operative. Reference campaign for the same issue did not include this year vehicle. BMW provided for extended 10 year warranty on 2004-2005 Z4 vehicles as part of the resolution to reference campaign.
The passenger seat airbag seat mat sensor shorted.
Passenger's airbag indication light is malfunctioned. The indication light of passenger's airbag shows always off. Therefore it can't tell the airbag is on or off.
