Tl the contact owns a 2016 BMW Z4. The contact stated that while his wife was stopped and the brake pedal was depressed an unknown noise was heard as, the vehicle accelerated out of control and crashed into the rear of the vehicle in front causing that vehicle to crashed into the vehicle ahead of it. There were no warning lights illuminated. The driver's side frontal and knee air bags deployed. The driver sustained minor injury that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an auto body repair facility. The contact called the BMW of temple dealer (6006 s general bruce dr, temple, TX 76502) and was told to call the manufacturer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure as the contact was awaiting the report from the event data recorder (edr) and a case was opened. The contact was concerned as he wanted the cause of the failure to be diagnosed before the vehicle was returned to hm. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000. The VIN was not available.

While in motion the vehicle accelerates for 2 to 3 seconds periodically on highway and in city. While in motion at low speed and when stationary after driving only a few miles the vehicle engine shuts down. While in motion at high speed the vehicle engine stutters badly but does not turn off. The ignition switch has to be tuned off and then on again, and then the engine turns over and I'm able to continue to drive it. Both valve cover gaskets leak oil onto the engine. The worst was front of the engine which has been replaced. There is an electrical issue: seatbelts don't retract automatically and are not working properly, get caught in the door. Both e-keys have stopped working and not able to be reprogrammed for en. The horn does not work at all. The airbag warning light remains on at all times. The cig lighter and seat warmers are working fine. The thermostat warning comes on but in gauge is not showing any sign of trouble. Both the heat and the ac work fine while in motion and stationary.

The contact stated that while driving at 20 mph, various warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle began to accelerate independently without the accelerator pedal being depressed. The vehicle began to veer side to side and as a result, an oncoming vehicle on the left lane crashed into the contact's rear driver side. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The contact did not sustain any injuries. The vehicle was towed to a junkyard. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 143,000. The VIN was not available.

The steering is the only problem but your web site insists on my selecting at least 3 affected parts. In any case, the steering recently became jerky and notchy while driving. After several days of this, I took it my local foreign car repair specialist and they diagnosed a problem with the electronic power steering. Ultimately, they replaced the entire steering column at a cost to me of $4100. This was a very unsafe condition making my control of steering tenuous at best and one that you have received numerous complaints about.

The contact owns a 2003 BMW Z4. While driving 3 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The contact coasted the vehicle to a parking spot and attempted to restart the vehicle. The vehicle would idle but if he depressed the accelerator pedal, it would stall again. The failure occurred twice. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The contact called the manufacturer and was told that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The current and failure mileages were approximately 50,100.
Note: this is my second complaint for the same problem. . . . When coming to a stop at a traffic signal, my car began to rev uncontollably at speeds so high I though the engine would blow. As happened the first time, I pressed as hard as I could so as not to lunge forward. I shut the engine off but upon starting, it was still out of control. I don't know what it was that stopped this problem as one gets pretty much panicked when one can't control the situation.
I was approaching a traffic signal and I had to stop. I began easing up on the brake pedal as the car was coming to a stop. It was then that I realized I was having to press harder on the brake pedal as the car was not maintaining the slow speed I was expecting. Having reached the point at which I had to stop, I found myself pressing quite hard on the brake pedal. I immediately put the car into neutral and noticed the tachometer reading 3,500 to 4,000 rpm's. I believe it was my tapping on the gas pedal that got the car to rev at the normal rpm's for a car that is a stationary position, however, this happened so fast and caught me off guard, that perhaps the problem fixed itself and it wasn't my tapping on the gas pedal.
Engine surged then revved uncontrollablly after startup. Continued to surge and idle with rpm alternating between 0 - 2500 rpm the accelorator was unresponsive. After startup the car surged forward. Damange to front bumber and cracked light resulted. Defective part: bad throttle housing, replaced engine throttle (r6385) defect code 15 540 712.
