1 Wiper problem of the 2004 BMW Z4

Failure Date: 07/24/2020

Reoccuring issue: -door locks not functioning by remote or central button -wipers not functioning -trunk release not functioning by remote or button -windows not functioning -lighting of interior not working, to include gauge cluster -top not functioning issues intensify on days of low/higher temperatures. Seems to reset by disconnecting battery and reconnecting after several minutes. Issues points to gm5 module being faulty/failing this is not discovered until you start the car, seems to be a random occurrence, but happens at least once weekly. Sometimes it is multiple times a day.

2 Wiper problem of the 2004 BMW Z4

Failure Date: 04/12/2019

Gm5 module fail. When the gm5 module fauls windshield wipers won't work (this could be a big problem if it rains!), interior lights won't work, windows won't go up or down, no alarm functions and of course no automatic door lock control (doors can manually be locked and unlocked as long as the double lock is open. ).

3 Wiper problem of the 2007 BMW Z4

Failure Date: 01/15/2014

Low battery situation over the winter caused the vehicle to slip into "transport mode" where the ac, defroster, and fan speed will not work. This creates a hazardous visibility situation due to the defroster not working. As I understand it, the transport mode is supposed to be disabled when the car is delivered to the us but some dealers mistakenly turn it off rather than disable it. To disable it you must return it to the dealer and pay for a high service visit for a few moments of programming.

4 Wiper problem of the 2006 BMW Z4

Failure Date: 08/09/2013

Driver's side mirror fell of mount. There was no accident or damage to the mirror mount. I have checked BMW website and found that it is due to poor glue/gluing. This defect can cause accidents due to flying glass, and impair driver's rear view.

5 Wiper problem of the 2004 BMW Z4

Failure Date: 05/02/2011

Driver side mirror fell off and hanged by electrical wires at 65 miles per hour on the freeway. Side mirror wobbles while driving and make judgement difficult. Poor workmanship, design or assembly is probably the cause.

6 Wiper problem of the 2003 BMW Z4

Failure Date: 05/03/2010

Vehicle windshield wiper drive failed catastrophically during a severe rainstorm while vehicle was traveling in inside lane at 65 mph in moderate traffic conditions on I-65 at lee st. I was very fortunate to get the vehicle off the interstate without crashing. Note: drive motor for wipers operates passenger side with linkage to driver's side. No indication prior to failure. Drivers side bearing failed allowing linkage to drop from driver's side wiper pin. Design should be modified to drive the drivers side rather than the passenger side or linkage modified to allow gravity to secure the linkage to the driver's side drive pin.

7 Wiper problem of the 2010 BMW Z4

Failure Date: 03/31/2009

During a cold, driving rain storm, with driver & 1 passenger, started to drive. (very 1st drive in this car with cold weather) what a surprise: windshield immediately fogged up. Turned on defogger, windshield then fogged up 100% as well as all other windows - as visibility disappeared, I stopped the car & opened the windows with the blower on. No heat could be used. This process was repeated over the next 1 to 1-1/2 hours in order to continue driving. Issue was reported to BMW many times over. I had to learn that despite cold ambient temperatures w-w/o rain, snow, etc. - the a/c must be turned on in order to not fog the windows. BMW: there's nothing to fix, that's the way it is. The ambient air is directed through a portion of the engine compartment, this heats up the air. BMW stated that I may void the warranty if I modify the system to correct this problem. This has continued to occur. On a drive on CA's coast highway, with temps in the low 50's - one must still run the a/c & no heat. BMW asked: what do you have against running the a/c all the time? in addition to impaired visibility - this results in constant, very low mpg with the a/c always on. When BMW provided mpg's to fed. Agencies, I believe that BMW's a/c's were not on & these cars demand premium fuel. I spoke with a nationally known, respected tester/advisers of many vehicles - it was confirmed to me that the mpg tests are conducted without the a/c's being turned on.
