Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problems of the 1997 Buick Century

Two problems related to manifold/header/muffler/tail pipe have been reported for the 1997 Buick Century. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2005

Tl-the contact owns a 1997 Buick Century. The contact stated that the dexcool antifreeze has deteriorated vehicles engine manifold gasket, which caused the engine to overheat. Check engine warning indicator was illuminated. Vehicle was towed to a independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the lower manifold gasket needs to be replaced but it was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000, ddr.

2 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2003

A mixture of water and anti freeze seeped into the oil. When this occurred the fluids mixed with the oil, and went through the intake manifold gasket. This knocked the crankshaft and destroyed the engine. The engine was replaced, but the failure recurred 8 months later.
