Twice within the past month when driving on the interstate while using cruise control my vehicle automatically started accelerating uncontrollably. Depressing the brake pedal did not disengage the cruise control or stop the car from trying to accelerate. In both cases I had the wherewithal not to panic, contol the vehicle to the shoulder, put the car in neutral and turn the engine off. After restarting the car the engine immediately continued to accelerate and trottle up to 4000 rpms while still in park. Fortunately, both instances occurred on straight stretches of interstate during less than crowded hours. I shutter to think if this occured while my kids were driving. I am filing this complaint in hopes that if there are other cases of this happening we can make sure gm can fix this before anyone gets killed. I know other automakers had this problem and were able to correct it through recall. I contacted gm/Buick with my concerns and they acknowledged that this is indeed a safety concern but since my warranty is expired there is nothing they can do but advise me to take it in for repair at my own expense. I have a video I took after the second occurrence once I was able to pull my vehichle over and try to restart it. I am not able to upload it through this form but I can send it upon request.

Car accelerated on it's own during highway speeds. Was traveling on a 2 lane highway in the desert at 70 mph in #1 lane, attempting to pass a semi truck, went to the #2 lane increased speed up to 75, let off gas once I was back in #1 lane and my car was at 5 rpm when typically it's at 2 rpm or less. My car was increasing speed on it's own & the brake had no power. I used my other foot to kick up the gas pedal and I was able to control my speed again. Very scary situation. No warning lights nor codes to indicate problem. Had my cruise control turned off at that time. Contacted Buick, explained what happen, they gave me a case ref# and will be towing it to the Buick service to have them look at it. I have been in a car when I lost power, but never lost control of the throttle being in full power. Lucky to be alive to tell my story and grateful I didn't kill or hurt anyone on my path. Hoping Buick fixes this issue so no one has to be in a dangerous situation.

While traveling with cruise control set to 79 mph, I accelerated to pass a semi that was driving erratically. After passing, I let off the gas but the gas pedal stuck. None of the cruise control buttons would work to slow us, the brakes would not slow us, eventually placing the car in neutral allowed us to safely stop along the road. Buick customer support basically said there's nothing wrong and until there's more incidents they won't do anything.

I was in the passing lane on a four lane interstate highway driving over an overpass near rockport, mo. My speed/cruise control was set on 70 mph. There were one or more cars ahead of me in the passing lane and I was passing a semi-truck in the right lane. My vehicle started to speed up, without any input from me. I tried multiple times unsuccessfully to brake and could not slow the vehicle down. I changed lanes in order to not hit the car in front of me which we were almost upon. In doing so, the semi-truck clipped the corner of the vehicle. I was spun on to the shoulder and then rolled several times down the 65 foot embankment. The vehicle was totaled. The passenger sustained bruising and loss of consciousness. He had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital and then subsequently airlifted to another hospital. I sustained a compound fracture in my clavicle, 5 broken ribs and a cracked pelvis. I was hospitalized for three days.
This particular problem is with the cruise control mechanism and it's ability to manage the command which is given. The 1st occurrence happened in 01/2014, on the 1st drive of the day. Temperature was 44â°, sunny and roads were dry. I locked in the cruise control at 55 mph and when I went to decrease the speed and lock it in at 45 mph, the cars speed increased 10 mph after one press of the cruise control button. The car quickly increased its speed until I realized what was happening and pressed the brake. The following week it happened 2 other times at different speeds (50 mph and 40 mph). In the first instance the cruise was set at 40 mph and I wanted to increase it to 55 mph. After only pressing the butto twice, it jumped 15 mph displaying a cruise speed of 65 mph. In the 2nd instance, I was decreasing speed from 55 mph down to match traffic (no specific speed was intended) and it increased the speed 10 mph after the 4th or 5th press of the cruise control button. I have actually witnessed the speed change on the display and add 5, 10 our 15 mph quite a few times now. Each time the car will increase its speed after a few seconds delay. There has also been multiple incidents where I was trying to increase speed and it actually decreased speed. After multiple instances, I brought the car to the gm dealership in carson city, nv and expressed my concern. They said they could do nothing as they couldn't duplicate the problem. Though this happens quite frequently, it does not do it every time. It must be noted that it does not happen at a particular speed, and happens both on increasing as well as decreasing your speed. Thank you for your time and consideration on this matter.

The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the vehicle was operating as intended. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 750.
