Air Bag Problems of Buick Encore - part 1

The front passenger air bag sensor turns off either before we begin driving or while the vehicle is in motion. The manual says that if you have a seat cushion or are not in the position for the sensor to "see" you, it may turn off. I have a bad back, and I need my 2-inch seat cushion for long trips, or I will be in pain. But when I use my seat cushion, the sensor turns the air bag off. So, if I use my seat cushion (or the sensor otherwise decides to turn the air bag off), I am not protected in the case of an accident. If I don't use my seat cushion, I am in pain from my back. The front passenger air bag should have a manual switch and have the ability to be kept on all of the time, that decision being made by the passenger and not a sensor that is not Smart enough to adjust to an additional cushion or other situation.

When crossing through an intersection at approximately 45mph, I was struck by another vehicle, speed unknown, who failed to stop at a stop sign. My vehicle was struck on the front passenger corner. There were no known symptoms or alerts indicating a problem with the airbag system.

A deer came out of nowhere and I hit it head on. It totaled the car. The airbag did not go off.

This car is not mine but someone somehow fraudulently registered it in my name. I got the VIN # from truth finder when I did a search on myself. Please help.

Nothing air bags deployed was leaving a parking lot started went to drive off !! bang 2000 bounds of pressure in my face! my whole body!! it was a rental !! look into this vechicail !hair burnt! fried wire smell still on my burnt jacket!! look into this with great concern as iam reaching out with shock and awe about this whole situation that accured** there is video of accurance in parking lot * think the owner is going to try to cover up what ever he can , saying that for reason's of my own! please someone's job to investagte right ! black box data speed which 2 miles a hour was speed . . 1. Both rear springs have broken within 1 year of each other. There were no accidents or any kind or off road driving. These are expensive to fix. 2. Driver side airbag light is on. No idea why. Afraid to drive this vehicle.

The airbags never deployed. I sustained a brain injury in the accident along with whiplash. I told the deputy on scene, that they did not deploy. My insurance looked at it. They totaled the car out. It is now sitting in a junk yard somewhere.

The contact's husband transported her to the hospital, where the contact was informed that her right wrist bone was dislocated, and a surgery was required. The contact received the needed medical assistance. Additionally, the contact had been receiving physical therapy. The vehicle was tow to an unknown dealer autobody repair shop, where it was totaled. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000. The VIN was unavailable.

My airbag light is on and malfunctioning. It will cost $200 for the diagnostic and no repair. To repair it will cost $873. 19. I see there are more complaints in regarding this issue. To me this is a safety issue and concerns me as I drive my grandchildren in this car. I am told it is an actual sensor in the cushion of the seat. My vehicle is under 5 years old. Something has to be done.

For no apparent reason my air bag sensor light comes on intermittently while driving.

On 12/27/22 around 9:40pm my husband and I were traveling home on the 580 altamont pass going towards tracy. I was traveling next to the slow lane. My speed limit was at 65! there was 18 wheeler 53 footer on the right of me on the slow lane. The 18th wheeler with no signal began drifting his trailer in my lane hit my right side and proceeded to drag my 2017 Buick Encore all the way to the left slammed the truck up against the cement barrier. And rolled the back end of his trailer onto the hood of the right side of the car and he disconnected. Side air bags and front airbags did not deploy. Which cause injury to my front of my body and back and spine injuries to my body and to my husband as well.

Previous airbag recall, but not including my VIN. However, my airbag light is on and malfunctioning. It will cost $200 to just diagnose the repair and no idea what the cost to fix this saftey issue on a car that is only 5 years old. Please help!.

I've had my car for 3 years. I've always kept up with it's maintenance. My engine/head gasket are blown and I found out this is a common issue with this car. The airbags also dont recognize when there are passengers in the car. I started my car up one morning in September and all of my lights started flashing. I immediately turned it off and towed it to my mechanic to find out that it pretty much has everything wrong with it. My car is barely above 80k.

We have had problems with the air bags since the car was new. The srs light would come on for a couple months then go off. It says it has a problem with the passenger presence module. Never had a recall but the dealer said that when we took it in for an oil change they updated the firmware on the air bag system. It never did work, it would sometimes work then not work. I took it back a few weeks ago and told them it still isn't right and I said since it is a safety issue they should cover it. They told me that since ohio doesn't have auto inspections that they are not responsibile for taking care of it and I was looking at over 1000 to repair. That pissed me off so I took my car and left. I am taking it to a independent garage. I have had lots of problems eith this car and only have 42000 on it now. My last gm, next will be Toyota/.

Drivers airbag light stays on - immobilisation light stays on, car won't start. Both of these issues were addressed by TSB and complaints.

Was rear ended by a suspect fleeing police, he hit me about 100 mph, pushed my car into the rear of the car in front of me. Air bags did not deploy.

Had accident, where I was hit from the front driver side, after that impact I was struck in the rear, which totaled the car. Me and a passage was tossed around like rag dolls. The seat belt on the passage side did not hold in place causing her head to strike the windshield twice, no airbags deployed from side front back none which would of kept her and I from being tossed around, this needs to be brought to someones attention, and a recall we was looking we both have injuries, can someone please advise to why this vehicle was never recalled and checked???? now me and my passage has a road of recovery due to the airbags and seat belts.

Oct 9th - I was coming home from work on October 9th after working a 12-hour shift. It was dark. I was going south on happy valley. I pulled up to a four-way stop on happy valley and victory road. I started to pull into the intersection. A girl traveling east to west didn't stop at her stop sign. When I got in the middle of the intersection, she hit me. The speed limit was 45 mph coming from her direction, but I do not know how fast she was traveling. She hit my car and it spun my car. I remember hitting my head 2 times on the side window and my body twice against the door. My airbags didn't deploy. My car faced the airport when it came to a stop and was facing west.

The airbags is displaying off despite who is sitting on it. It's been going on for about a year since start of covid and it isn't turning on. Also, the backup camera is not working properly and suddenly displaying very dark and not showing up properly.

Pulling into a parking spot and the car took over and was speeding and hit the concrete pole,air bags went off the car was totaled.

I was sitting at a red light on a city street when a car going over 60 mph hit the car behind me that was waiting for the same light, with such force it took out my drivers side rear end and was then pushed onto the medium and into oncoming traffic. The 2nd impact to my vehicle was the speeding car who then hit me and embedded itself into my rear end. At this time was the 3rd impact when I was pushed into the car in front of me waiting for the same light. The 4th impact is when I hit the car in lane to the right of me causing little damage to my car and theirs. Being hit on every corner and rear, my car was a total loss and yet none of the airbags deployed.

Consumer writes in regard to no airbag deployment after an accident.

We hit 2 deers at 70 mph it damaged the whole front part of our car . None of the air bags deployed. The 4 way flashers came on the seatbelts locked up yet no airbags. Also this is the first and only time the 4 way flashers worked. The car has been fixed and no 4 way flashers again.

Passenger airbag does not always activate. The light indicating that the passenger airbag has been activated does not always turn on when the seat is in use. It doesn't matter if the car is moving or stationary. It also doesn't matter who is sitting in the seat, meaning it could work for the person one day and not the next. .
