This car has the engine shutoff feature when stopped. My wife was waiting in the left turn lane of a major street with three lanes on her side plus two left turning lanes. Due to the busy intersection the wait for a green light is long, perhaps three minutes. The engine shut off and would not restart when she released the brake pedal. Also, almost everything electrical was inoperable, including the interior door release. My wife and granddaughter were temporarily trapped inside the vehicle. She tried the door handle, tried to put down the windows, tried to unlock the car with the keyless remote but nothing would work, she was trapped. After several attempts of trying to restart the car and hitting the unlock button on the keyless entry the doors finally unlocked. The mechanical issue turned out to be a bad car battery; it had shorted out. The safety issue is when the battery dies most components are inoperable, including the interior door release. The dealer said this is the way the car works. If an Encore were to catch fire and the electrical system gets disabled, occupants would be trapped in the car. I think it is a design flaw for the doors to not open when the battery is dead. This should be easy to replicate. Unhook the car battery. Place someone in the car and have them lock the doors. Have the person try to exit the vehicle. In hindsight, the problem was going on for some time. My wife noticed the car taking longer times to restart after shutoff. The day before this incident she was at another long traffic light where the vehicle did not start on its own but the first manual try to restart started the vehicle. I believe this was due to the car battery slowing dying. The car has not been inspected for this as the dealer said the car is working as designed. The Buick dealer replaced the car battery under warranty. One thing I wish I brought to their attention but did not is the fact that no warning light came on indicating a weak car battery.

The contact owns a 2015 Buick Encore. The contact stated while driving the computer shutdown without warning. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who stated they were unable to duplicate the failure due to the computer shutting down. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified however, no further assistance was provided. The contact was concerned about being involved in a crash due to the unsafe vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
While driving down the road the vehicle turns itself off. Headlights go off and there is no control of the vehicle. Sometimes the vehicle will crank itself without touching the start button. Sometimes several times before it will remain on long enough to start driving again. It is very dangerous to drive because you have no control over the vehicle at the time of engine shutdown. It doesn't matter if it is highway speeds or in town. Tonight it took over 2 hours to travel a normal 20 minute drive. It all started 27 Feb 21 and today (28 Feb 21) it is progressively getting worse. Most of the times that it happens a bell will ding 4 times and right after the bell chimes the engine immediately shuts off. All lights extinguish, it loses steering control and brakes are minimized.
In reference to this vehicle, I purchased this car from burns Honda in February 2020. I replaced the battery less than a year of having this car. I then had my engine light come on and my car was skipping, it completely stopped while driving. Several times, it jumped when I would go over 65 mph. I took it to the dealership that same night and they continued to tell me nothing was wrong with it. I have had electrical issues along with that. After back and forth for several days with Buick, they finally replaced the transmission. Fast forward to October of 2021, my engine light continues to go off and on and my car has been jumping on me.

The vehicle started making noises and the instrument panel and screen went out. The vehicle was drivable, but the entire instrument panel was out. Radio stopped working, my screen went dark and the backup camera didn't work. The first time this happened the vehicle was stationary and the second it occurred while backing out a parking spot.

Hacker its being able to change stereo and penetrate into the unit and manipulate car settings as he's please. Dangerous while I am driving.
I was driving on the interstate and the vehicle was in cruise control. It acted as it was accelerating and then the cruise control quit and I lost speed. I regained speed and then it lurched again; the cruise control again went off. When I applied the brake to pull to the side of the road, the engine started to throttle up and accelerate, I had to brake harder to come to a full stop.

Since I bought this car in 04/2018 I had many problems problems as the engine sensor had to be replaced, headlights going out when I was driving, they could not reproduce the problem at the dealership , now the back wheel driver module is bad,it will need to be replaced ,and finally I almost could not drive in the highway on 04/25/2020, I was very afraid that I was going to be in an accident when the power steering wheel locked, abs, brake lights and traction light were all on in the panel and so a warning signal. The vehicle was in motion. I was in rt 206 in NJ, after chester. 025/2020. I had to stop by a market. The car was taken to a shop in newton and it will be towed to mcguire delearship in newto for repair. I am very scared of driving this car and I need a safe car to go to work everyday!!!.

During the past 3 years I have had to replace the battery 3 times, my daytime running lamps keep turning off, I have had to replace the ignition coil and now my car has been at the dealership for a week because there is an electrical problem they cannot figure out. The chassis control module was replaced but did not fix the problem. My personal mechanic advised the tcm was coding, but dealership said no. I am beyond frustrated! these problems started around 60000 miles and now it has 83000 miles on it and can't be driven. If gm knew about the issues (as found in multiple articles on line) why didn't they disclose?.
Tl-the contact owns a 2015 Buick Encore. The contact stated that the information screen and back up camera was inoperable. The vehicle was taken to parks Buick GMC, :2640 laurens rd, greenville, SC 29607, (864) 568-7276, to be diagnosed. The mechanic was able to duplicate the failure but unable to diagnose a cause for the failure. The contact was informed that the information center and radio needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the parts being on back order. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30000. Ah.
I was stopped in a drive thru taco bell and the clerk dropped my change dollars from my purchase so I reacted by opening the door to pick up the money by taking my foot off the brake without putting it in park because it was a reaction. The car's stop start feature surged the car forward pinning my legs between the car and the building. I couldn't put the car in park because my legs were pinned and the vehicle shift would not go into park. I screamed and the clerk had to take my shoes off so I could pull my legs in the car. I went directly to urgent care. My legs were severely bruised. This is a major safety issue. The car should not surge forward like that. I've had the car for 1 month and it scraped the driver side door and front tire/rim. $1500 damage but lost a days work and several weeks of recovery. The same thing could happen at an atm. I used to work for gm and test drive vehicles this engine stop/start feature should have an electric feature similar to what Ford has that once the door opens, the drive goes automatically to park. This should be a safety recall!!! 10/8/19.
This has happened 5 times. 5 times to a gm dealer. 5 time not fixed. After traveling on the highway at 70-75mph for 3 hours, traction control light comes on. Followed by service power steering, then dials go to zero, transmission stop shifting. Towed of the highway 3 times, managed to limp to a dealer twice. Ecm re-programmed, battery changes, replaced ecm. Car is now in little rock ar, having its fifth diagnosis. Happened while driving my daughter to and from ohio to an internship in dallas. Broke down outside of lousville , nashville, fort worth, texarkana and finally little rock. Very dangerous.
Takata recall? the eletrical control display turns off and sometimes back on randomly creating a definited driver distraction. The one connection I have made is it does happen at times when I turn slightly (not full hard turn needed)on the steering wheel. This concerns me as a safety issue; I ask is this related to the system electrical issue in recall 15168? for me it involves safety as anything happening in a vehicle unexpectedly create distraction. In my case it is momentary, yet distracting none the less. Ther date listed belong is one of many times.
Code po300 ignition coil arcing to the valve cover random cylinder misfire.
Rear seatbelt would not retract. All instruments stopped working momentarily while driving.
"takara recall" my 2015 Buick as been doing diffrent things. First the blinkers and radio went out and then it came back and now none of the doors lock worked. I was stuck inside my car for 30 min. Now the ignition gets really hot. And the doors won't unlock in the back. Im concern about what's going on. While driving the signal wasn't working neither the radio but out of nowhere it starts working. It's been doing it on and off for the past four or so days. The key is getting very hot to where it almost burn me. Very weird. . . Im truly concern about that. And I was in the car when the door wouldn't unlock.
This vehicle has a keyless ignition system. Twice my wife accidentally turned off the vehicle, once at a stop, the other time on a freeway at 70 mph. She was unaware the vehicle could be started in neutral thinking she needed to be in park. The vehicle continued coasting allowing her to move to the side of the freeway. There she was able to put the vehicle in park, press on the brake and restart the car. She did not realize the vehicle engine was off until she. Pressed on the gas to maintain speed. She panicked and turned to me as an engineer with 40 years in the automotive industry. I kept her calm and instructed her what to do. Only when we were on the side of the road did we determine she had accidentally turned off the engine when tuning the radio. With no warning or indication the engine was off the results could have been catastrophic. Her colleague at work also did this in his Lexus. The proximity of the start\stop button to other similar controls appears to be a factor in these incidents. No warning from the vehicle not notice from the manufacturer of the sales dealership of this possibility and what to do does not prepare the driver for when this occu.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Buick Encore. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing electrical failures. One side of the vehicle was able to be heated through the vents while the other side was not able. The vehicle also jerked when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the electrical failure was confirmed. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted regarding the jerking and heating failure. The failure mileage was 108,000.

I purchased this vehicle in 2017 with only 45,000 miles, 1 year warranty was purchased. I have had constant issues with tires, but more seriously I have had over $2000 in repairs for intake manifold, air conditioning, various issues with tires, repaired thermostat. I had an ignition problem repaired in 2019 and now the check engine light keeps flashing, the motor doesn't want to engage and I am in fear for my life that I will be on the highway and it will just shut down, causing a collision!.
The display screen goes black during the day light hrs. Then comes back on sometime later. So you can't see the radio stations.
On 4/25/18 was traveling a couple of hours out of town for a meeting. While accelerating (up an incline) from a hwy work zone of 50 mph, I temporarily lost: all dial readings, power steering and engine sounded stuck in a lower gear. A few seconds later, regained everything, check engine light came on and on star pinged transmission error/ take in for service within 1 day. Dealership received u0073 code and identified 2 leaks from air conditioner. They suspected the leaks were affecting the sensors. On 5/5/18, while driving 40 mph, just 1 mile from leaving home - the same thing happened as above + traction control light came on temporarily with power steering light. Upon pulling off the road, turning the car off, sitting a minute and restarting, everything came back and only the check engine light lit. The dealership (who have fabulous customer service) identified a different set of codes and ended up replacing "the brains" of the electrical system. On 5/9/18, driving 35 mph down a slight decline- again lost all dial gauges, power steering, traction control light came on and transmission seemed to be stuck in low gear. This condition continued for a number of minutes. I pulled into a parking lot on a hill (no fun to coax the car up), turned the car off, turned it on, and still power steering, transmission and gauges aren't working right. Since home was 1 mile away, I headed that direction and after 1/2 mile everything resolved + check engine light back on. The drive that night to the dealership was special. 50% of the time the power steering was on and off along with inability to accelerate, especially up hill. This time 5 different electrical codes were identified. So far, dealership has recharged the battery and are driving the heck out of it to see if more codes pop up. They do not yet feel it's fixed. Was there a bad batch of 2015 Encores?.
I was driving on a highway at 65mph. On a straight portion of the road the engine light came on , the engine revved up to over 4000 rpm, the power steering locked up, and many other lights came on on the dashboard display. This was a very dangerous situation trying to control the car. I was forced to slow down and when I reached 40mph the power steering came back on. The engine was still running over 4000 rpm. Most of the dashboard display lights went off except for the check engine light. Had to drive under 40 mph until I got home. While this was happening my onstar sent me a notification that there was something wrong with my transmission. The car was then towed to the gm dealer. At the gm dealer they could find nothing wrong. There were no error codes in the cars computer.
2/2017- purchased new 2016 Buick Encore at honolulu GMC in first 2 years- dealership replaced 4 batteries I have all stock items I haven't added/upgraded anything on the vehicle they said I had no warranty after 50,000 miles which was a lie after having to replace the battery 2 more times and water pump once successfully and not at their dealership. 1/2021 I found the original purchase papers, while deep cleaning car before taking in to be fixed elsewhere and then GMC admitted I had an extended warranty. Due to long wait times nearest appointment in 2/2021. 2/2021 took to fix a/c blowing warm, engine lack of and losing power (which we took in for this before and they said nothings wrong just needed an oil change or something, gotta find paperwork for that repair to be sure) and parasitic battery test they didn't do the battery test (of course they didnt) they fixed the a/c but instead of using the warranty, charged me a higher diagnosis fee and never filed the claim, said the engine was due to subpar spark plugs we took back our car and replaced spark plugs with denso. There was still the same problems. 3/23/2021 now they're saying cylinder 1 and 3 spark plugs are stuck want to charge $2500 for full fix, warranty will cover $1300, balance is for gaskets and liquid refill. Note: no one changes the settings in a torque wrench in the middle of doing spark plugs. How is it only 2 are seized? they're lying I need a lawyers help putting this here in case any one else had similar. Multiple other issues in between these. I have video recordings of some of these instances and paperwork for each repair.
Driving on freeway, approx 74 mph in a 75 zone. About 1. 5 hours in to a 2. 5 hour trip. All systems were functioning and no warning lights were on. Car suddenly lost power on gas pedal , power steering light came on, check engine light came on , all gauges are functioning erratically and then all gauges stopped or went to zero. Light indictating the transmission gear kept changing. But the cars tranny didn't shift or change just the light for the gear indicator wasflashing. Car slowed to approx. 40 mph, with the rpm's racing to approx. 4500/6000. Engine was still running and not over heating or any other lights except check engine and power steering light. Stopped car on shoulder to take inventory of situation, car running and idile rpm's seemed normal chk. Engine and power steering light still on, proceeded to drive again . No leaks or overheating . All gauges came back up/ on. Proceed to drive . . . Car had no acceleration , very little , like the car was still in a higher gear . Speed up very slowly until it reached approx 55-60 mph. But the rpm's were at 5500/6000 , felt like the tranny needed to shift but wouldn't. Slowed down to approx. 35-40 . . To get rpm's in line or more in line. Drove home last hour on side roads and frontage roads with flashers on. Can't drive that slow on a freeway. All of car functional were normals , ac , radio ,windows , lights . Just the power steering and check engine light stayed on with no acceleration power or power steering . . . . Called dealer Monday morning for a tow into the shop .
Driving along at approx. 55 mph on a main hiway slowed to approx. 40 mph to make a turn, when suddenly the engine stopped operating. Everything shut down, no steering, no brakes. On star did not respond, car was disabled about 5-7 minutes, tried to start several time with the key. Serious issue, had car towed to dealer, found nothing wrong and no codes were obtained from the computer system!.
Driving about 45-50 mph and the car suddenly turned off. The steering wheel became stiff and all the electrical power turned off, and the dash board screen was black. I then turn the ignition key off and restarted the car in the middle of the main driving road.
*many times sitting still or going down road screen goes dim and sometimes almost black (whether headlights are on or not) *screen has went completely off * headlights comes on when not needed, and doesn't always come on when needed, going down road *alert lights in mirrors doesn't always work going down road *sitting in school parking lot with keys off the radio comes on by itself *sitting in sonic parking lot and when I went to start car I had nothing. I kept trying it and finally it started *bluetooth doesn't work properly, you can call out or you can receive calls, you can hear them but they can't hear you *passenger airbag light doesn't always come on.
In a line of traffic getting ready to make a left turn and without warning, the engine raced causing the car to accelerate and slam into the rear of another car causing over $5k worth of damage to the Encore. The air bags did not go off. The impact was so intense that the rear glove box opened tossing the contents out into the trunk.
Instrument panel lighting in bright daylight, while wearing sunglasses, is insufficient. In order to read the speedometer either on the analog dial or on the small digital display while driving, requires the removal of the sunglasses, take your eyes off the road, and peer into the panel in order to read the speedometer. The gas and temperature gauges are not visible at all. Adjusting the intensity switch has no effect during daylight hours. This issue has been reported to the local Buick service department as well as Buick headquarters. They said they will inform the engineering department of this problem. This lighting issue was verified on other new Encore's in the dealers lot.
Tl-the contact owns a 2014 Buick Encore. The contact stated that while driving on the highway at 70 mph, the blind spot detector failed to operate. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed but the failure cause could not be found. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. Jo.
I was driving a Buick Encore, rental car, and after using the wipers, my hand touched the ignition key (barely touched it) and the engine turned off leaving me with no power steering or power brakes. I managed to get to the side of the road and put it into park to restart the car. I returned it to the rental place right away and reported the problem to them.
* accident** since the purchase date of my car I have had trouble sliding the key into the ignition. It normally takes at least a few attempts and can require some light force to insert the key. After several attempts to resolve the issue, my local Buick dealership will be replacing the ignition during my appointment this week. As well, the last time I was at the dealer, another customer had the same complaint with the Buick Encore. I am reporting this issue simple out of concern due to all of the ignition issues gm has recently had. As this is another potential issue I strongly feel it should be researched. Thank you!.
