1 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 02/20/2026

Defective "turbo charger" at 38,091 miles. The defective worn-out or damaged turbocharger was removed from the engine and a new one was installed at a cost of $1816. 00. This part should not wear out at 38,000 miles. My mechanic informed me that this is common in the Buick Encore vehicles to experience a defective "turbo charger" at low vehicle mileage.

2 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 01/31/2026

Turbo exhibits exact same symptoms of 17-18 Encore recall for the turbo. I frequently get the p0299 code the car becomes sluggish and hesitates to take off from a stop when this code comes on making this car dangerous to drive. This issue has almost caused multiple accidents because the car is so under powered that its hard to get the car across traffic without being hit. I have been having this issue for several years and no one has been able to tell me why the car does this.

4 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 10/25/2025

My check engine light has been appearing off and on for a few months. I received a diagnostic code of p0325 twice by two different professional technicians. I ordered an oem knock sensor, hired a technician to replace the knock sensor, drove about 10 miles and the check engine light came back on. Then, I received a diagnostic code of p-1101, and the recommended solution is to replace the intake manifold and all necessary gadgets. After speaking with professional technicians and doing thorough online research, I discovered that general motors issued a service bulletin no. 19-na-101, dated July 2024, covers certain 2013–2019 model vehicles (including Buick Encore with 1. 4l turbo) for oil consumption and/or leaks caused by a missing non-return valve in the intake manifold. The bulletin acknowledges that the intake manifold design on these 1. 4l turbo engines has a non-return (check) valve or pcv system component inside the manifold that can fail or go missing, leading to issues like boost/vacuum leaks, oil consumption, engine performance faults. •the pcv valve is non-serviceable (you can’t replace it separately), meaning the only fix is replacing the manifold — which gm calls out in the bulletin. If gm or Buick hasn't issued a recall they should offer goodwill assistance especially since this is a defect on their end.

5 Other Fuel System problem of the 2014 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 10/17/2025

The car only has 54700 I am orginal owner. Drivers seat does not work, catalytic converter, gm service bulletin #43210. Ask if your VIN is affected or if they’ve seen similar failures in 2014 models. This car is a lemon.

6 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 09/10/2025

I have went to the dealership for the past two years with this problem and they keep saying they are not getting any codes: when the air conditioner is on it’s pulling the power from the motor and makes it hard to go up hill. Hard to accelerate when going on to the freeway as well. The problem is only getting worse and worse.

7 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 08/01/2025

I've been dealing with a frustrating car issue lately where my vehicle keeps stalling and hesitating during acceleration - whether I'm pulling away from a stop or trying to pick up speed on the road. After getting it checked out, my mechanic determined that the high pressure fuel pump control module is the culprit and needs replacement. The problem is, we're stuck waiting for the part because Buick has it on backorder indefinitely. What's particularly concerning is that gm recently issued a recall for this exact same fuel pump issue on certain models, but somehow my VIN number didn't make the cut. I strongly believe it should have been included, especially considering the safety implications here. When this fuel pump control module fails, it can completely cut off fuel flow to the engine, which creates a serious traffic safety hazard. Nobody wants their car suddenly losing power while merging onto a highway or navigating through an intersection. This isn't just an inconvenience - it's a legitimate safety concern that affects real people on real roads every day.

8 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 05/30/2025

My daughter owns a 2019 Buick Encore and the check engine light keeps going on. She took her car to the dealer and was told that it needed a turbo bypass valve and solenoid valve. The car is just a few months within the 10 year powertrain warranty and the dealer refused to cover as defect. She drives on the freeway 45 minutes to/from work and this is a serious issue that causes the engine to rev hard and not stop as well as stall intermittently.

9 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 05/28/2025

They sold me a car and 2 days later the check engine light came on I fixed it then a second time it came on I fixed again then a third time it came on I fixed it again now this is the 4th time that this light has come on and I called up there they tell me well we can see about putting you in another car. I go up there today and they tell me well the loan place you chose won’t do it because what’s on my credit so I ask if they can fix it for free because I can’t afford to pay 500$ 9’ car note and 500$ for car insurance they said it’s nothing they could do to help me I asked for a manger chelsea , she walked passed me 3 times and one of the times was to go smoke a cigarette didn’t even try to aknowlege me until I called my salesmen veronica too say she walked passed me 3 times and didn’t say anything I don’t appreciate im working hard to try and pay for this car and. I felt as if no one cares I feel as if I was sold a lemon and they continue to say well we didn’t sale you a lemon how would you know if it’s a lemon or not prior to buying know one knows that.

10 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 04/24/2025

On 4/24/25 I noticed a pungent odor (like rotten eggs). The odor is worse today. I did research and it appears there may be a problem and or leak with the catalytic converter. The emissions are making me and my kids feel sick, nauseous, headache, irritated eyes, etc.

11 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 04/08/2025

I have been calling autonations for months now since my car started driving funny. I was first told it was a head gasket that needed replacement however using my VIN number the engine that’s currently inside the vehicle is not the one that matches with what pulls up using the VIN number. Than the antifreeze leaks out, the oil leaks out and one day the car started smoking on the freeway with my children and I inside. It just stopped and haven’t been working ever since. I literally just got messed out of money because I purchased this vehicle a year ago not knowing it was a recall and this is one of the recalls now I am completely screwed over without a car and my money!! now I’m being told I have to pay because this car was sold to me already over the mileage limit to be fixed for free!!.

12 Other Fuel System problem of the 2014 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 04/01/2025

On March 18 , 2025 I purchased a 2014 Buick Encore with an implied warranty, the vehicle had 128,644 miles on the odometer. At the time of purchase the check light was not on and the vehicle had no visible or audible mechanical issues. Not 14 days after purchase there was a strong odor of burning oil due to an oil leak dripping into the splash shield. A certified mechanic advised me that the problem was a very common issue with the 2014 Buick Encore and the oil cooler associated with the turbo charger needed to be replaced. This issue is so common that the NHTSA issued a gm part failure warning for the 2017 model and instructed gm to reimburse all vehicle owners to replace the part (n232395330). This issue clearly a problem that needs to be addressed with the 2014 model as well. My mechanic said that auto dealers are cleaning the splash pad prior to selling the vehicle so that the burning oil smell is not noticeable until 14 days or so after purchase. The repairs cost me $1148. 00 just weeks after purchasing the vehicle. This problem of dealers covering up the problem and faulty gm parts needs to be addressed. I believe my vehicle falls under the previous gm parts needs failure warning and I should be reimbursed the cost of the repairs in the amount of $1148. 00.

13 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 02/01/2025

My wife is [xxx] and I am [xxx] old. We purchased the 2016 Buick Encore with 29,000 miles from Buick GMC of beaverton, oregon on [xxx], expecting that it would out last both of us, since we are retired and only drive to the store and doctor's appointments; my wife has miraculously survived stage iv cancer since February 1, 2019. The Encore is our only car and we depend on it for all transportation. We love the vehicle, changed the oil about every 3,000 miles, and have had no complaints for almost six years. On [xxx], my wife and I were driving home from shopping, in rain at night on [xxx] north bound, left lane, uphill at 55mph in moderate traffic on a six-lane divided freeway. Suddenly the car lost half power, began missing and shaking badly, speed dropped to about 30 mph with cars serving behind us, flying past us honking. We were panicked, not knowing if the car would seize up completely or the engine would explode. Fortunately, we limped off the highway without having to stop. We took the car back to the dealership where we bought it, for service. The next day they emailed a video of their inspection of the vehicle showing cylinder 1 has very low compression of about 60 when normal should be 180 to 210 psi, which indicates a likely blown piston. April 30, 2019, NHTSA service bulletin 19-na-090 describes the identical symptoms the Encore is experiencing: misfire and low compression in one or more cylinders. Both the Buick GMC of beaverton dealership and general motors, 800-521-7300 are refusing to honor the original 70k mile warranty since they're indicating the warranty expired on 01/21/2023. We are devastated that because we pampered the vehicle and only drove it 17,000 miles in nearly 6 years, we are being unfairly penalized. Gm admits that if we had driven the vehicle more and this same engine failure occurred at just 49k miles prior to January 20, 2023, they would immediately replace the engine. Help! we are requesting that NHTSA information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act.

14 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 02/01/2025

This is an addendum to complaint # 11644925 before taking the car back to the dealership, Buick GMC of beaverton, for repairs, I called the owner of bassitt auto repair in beaverton oregon, 503-616-2007. He told me that they've had 3 other Buick Encores come to his repair shop in just the last 6 months, all with the identical problem. He said, without seeing our vehicle, that it is low compression due to a blown piston. He said to take the car to a Buick dealership, that this repair should be a recall, that the engine is most likely blown, and that no one with rebuild that engine.

15 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 01/31/2025

My engine light came on. The repair shop said I have to replace the fuel pump control module and that it is a known issue with Buick. I was advised not to drive the car. I am concerned that I could have been out and the car could have broken down. The car doesn’t even have 50,000 miles on it. This should not happen.

16 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 08/26/2024

In 2021, my ex husband received a notice from Buick extending the warranty to 120,000 on the turbo charger fuel injector due to failure in many vehicles. It was not included as a recall. In the state of texas, vehicles must have an annual inspection to remain legal to drive. Each vehicle receives an annual sticker. My sticker and inspection were due in July. In may of 2024, my check engine light came on. I took it to autozone to diagnose, and they said it was the turbo charger. Since I had no idea my ex-spouse had a letter, I purchased fuel injector cleaner and did this every week. Chevron 92 has always been my gas of choice. Unfortunately, it only cleared the engine light for a few days and my vehicle failed inspection at 120,000 miles. I took my Buick Encore to a traveling mechanic, who cleaned the injectors (supposedly), and after driving about 100 miles and in July finally passed inspection to avoid a citation. At 122,00 miles, on [xxx] I drove my Buick to dallas texas, 571 miles one way. I barely made it; the check engine light came on again and the vehicle could barely accelerate. I stopped multiple times to install injector cleaner, used only the best 92 gas at chevron. When I arrived, I took my 2016 Buick Encore to firestone. They diagnose the turbo charger again. Unfortunately, the vehicle had reached 123,000 miles by then. They cleaned the turbo charger but could not replace it. At that time, they let me know that might be a manufacturers defect, since this part should definitely last much longer than 123,000. Barely making it home again, with my [xxx] mother with me, I took my vehicle to gay Buick GMC to get the turbo charger replaced. Buick informed me this was too far past the 120,000 and refused to even replace the part if I paid for labor. This is a $2,653. 48 cost. May I ask for your assistance in a remedy, at least for the $700. 00 part? information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

17 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 08/26/2024

Stalling and shuts off. Low power when accelerating. Car has been so slow to take off that when merging into on coming traffic I have to move to shoulder & then try again to prevent an accident. Coughs, putt & squeaking sounds. Car shakes while in park or not in motion. Check engine light on.

18 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 08/06/2024

Transmission whirring, vehicle is skipping while driving, gear/rpm not downshifting after acceleration.

19 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 06/06/2024

My check engine light came on so I took it to a repair shop. They put it on their diagnostic system check computer and the code #po299 came up. After further inspection and investigation, the failed part is the turbocharger- a1140104n. This vehicle's, VIN number, model year and mileage qualifies it for warranty replacement and labor for the faulty part. However, because it is a Buick and not a chevy the dealership is not authorizing the repair, even though it is the exact same system and part that is being replaced in the chevy models. Without this part functioning properly, it affects performance and the car's ability to accelerate when needed which makes it a hazard to drive if you should need to accelerate quickly.

20 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 04/05/2024

Imthe original owner and purchased the car new 4 years ago. At 89,000 miles, the check engine light came on indicating codes for emission controls not working efficiently. Later additional codes indicated problems with the fuel evaporator. The car started having problems every time I filled up the gas tank it would stall, hesitate and have problems starting shortly after the fill up. Problem also occurred if I let the fuel level run down to 1 gallon when the reserve indicator light came on the fuel tank. So now I fill up when I reach a quarter tank. Steady driving for at least 10 minutes would clear the problem temporarily. Car hesitates, stalls and misfires when going uphill, steep hills and also when coming to full stop such as a red light. Later additional problem of car hesitating and misfiring during acceleration. I have replaced the spark plugs and ignition coil. No change noticed. Awaiting mechanic diagnosis. This problem seems very similar to another complaint filed under NHTSA id 11548946 in October 2023.

21 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 03/18/2024

Turbo replaced under recall in March 2024 at local GMC dealership. June 2024 oil changed at independent service center and was informed that oil leak from turbo present. Vehicle brought back to dealership in June 2024 where vehicle was repaired for oil feed line being loose at the feed line. July 2024 car taken to independent mechanic and informed that a new turbo is needed. If turbo problem persists it will result in the vehicle shutting down while driving, violent shaking of the engine, and acceleration issues that could result in full engine failure if not resolved. The repairs done for the recall has not rectified the faulty turbo problem. The faulty turbos originally installed and being used for replacements are a safety hazard for any Buick Encore driver.

22 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 03/01/2024

I brung my car in due to a oil leak and a water pump (coolant leak) amongst other things my check engine light stays on its the turbo charger, oxygen sensor and exhaust manifold. This has been an ongoing issue since I purchased the vehicle.

23 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 02/27/2024

On Wednesday February 27, 2024 while driving on the highway suddenly after about 15 minutes the engine light came on stating "engine overheating - idle engine. " the car decreased speed to about 40mph in a 60mph speed zone and then continued to decrease to 20mph with black smoke excessively blowing out of the exhaust and then a rattling /knocking sound continued from the engine until the car stopped in which I was able to pull over to the side emergency lane. My safety was at risk due to the car's sudden decrease in speed to a stop on a busy and crowded highway. I have been on the highway at least 5-6 other times in which the car almost stops on a busy expressway. I have brought the car to the gm dealership on several occasions in which I received 2 recall letters: one September 2019 (regarding the evaporative emissions purge valve does not properly close) and another recall letter November 2021 (regarding a condition that could cause the turbo charger to fail due to a sticking wastegate actuator linkage) from gm describing that there were recalls on my 2016 Buick Encore. After bringing the car to the gm dealership where I purchased the car, I explained that the engine will almost come to a stop. I described that it was very frightening to drive the car like this. The service center did complete repairs however the stalling engine continued and I continued to bring the car to the dealer complaining of this concern each time. The vehicle was not inspected by the police or insurance representatives. The engine light sensor would continue to appear on the dash in which I brought this to the service department's attention at the gm dealership. The gm dealership tried to correct the engine's problem but never succeeded, therefore the engine was defective and unsafe to be driving.

24 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 11/08/2023

It’s it’s firing and shaking, and I have kept up on the oil changes. It’s a lot of money.

25 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 08/04/2023

When driving, the vehicle will stutter and make the car feel as though it’s bubbling, once you come to a stop, the vehicle will shut off. This is a huge safety concern considering I have children and if the vehicle just turns off and I shouldn’t be braked for a while I can get hit. I have almost been hit 4x since this has started because the car shuts off when attempting to brake or braking completely. After speaking to multiple mechanics over this car it seems to be a common issue for it.

26 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 07/14/2023

2016 Buick Encore VIN # kl4cjbsb0gb532930 with 67,584 miles. My car's check engine light came on. Upon checking the code at o'reilly auto I was told I had to see a mechanic as it showed code p0299, turbo. I made an appointment at garrigans auto repair shop, a reputable shop. After they inspected the SUV I was told the turbo had a crack and needed to be replaced. On 7/14/2023 I had the repairs done at a cost to me of $1,480. 49 (attached). The car runs fine now. On 10/12/2023 I had another repair done on the car. This was the turbo emissions coolant line. While there, thomas at the counter said he just received the notice of a "special coverage a212338300 turbocharger replacement". I thanked him and contacted Buick. I talked to diana and gave her my VIN number. She informed me of the extended coverage as long as my car was not more than 10 years old or more than120,000 miles. My car has 67,584 miles (notice attached). She sent me the form and I filled it out and returned it (copy attached). The case number is 9-10950181266 (attached). On 10/23/23 I received a call from diane at Buick informing me my claim was denied. She said it was denied as it was not done at the dealership. If I had sustained a problem before Nov. 2021 I could file a claim but it had to be submitted by Nov. 2022. My work was done this year at a local shop. She said since it was not done at the dealership it was not covered. I told her I never knew of the 'special coverage' until after the work was done. She said it is not refundable. I asked for a supervisor who said the same thing. My issue is there is a serious malfunction of the turbo that could happen while I am driving down the interstate at 70 miles an hour only to have sudden reduced power or timing chain breakage causing serious damage to the car not to mention being hit from behind or when passing a semi due to loss of power or total engine malfunction (attached). Now I am contacting the NHTSA with my complaint.

27 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 05/01/2023

The check engine light came and took the car to o'reillys and was informed it had low turbo boost code took car to the dealership and they indeed confirmed that was the issue and that it would be over $3000. 00 to fix!!! I bought this car 4 months ago and this seems to be an issue with a few other owners as well Buick needs to recall this part!!! if not fixed it may cause deceleration or overheat and start to burn into the manifold of the exhaust. No other parties have looked at the car except the dealership. Only lamp that came on was the check engine light and it was sometimes go off and then come back on.
