2 Power Train problem of the 2016 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 01/04/2026

I was stopped at a traffic light and began moving forward to make a turn into traffic. As I activated my turn signal and started to proceed through the intersection, the vehicle suddenly stalled and shut off without warning, causing an immediate loss of power while the vehicle was in motion. Another vehicle was entering the intersection at the same time, creating a near-collision situation. I was forced to restart the vehicle in traffic. The incident occurred within less than 250 miles of purchasing the vehicle. The vehicle had recently received an oil change and inspection. No warning lights or messages were observed prior to the stall. This event created a serious safety risk.

3 Power Train problem of the 2016 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 12/15/2025

On my way home in December 2025, my car started to sputter and make noises. All of a sudden the car started going about 10-15 miles. I almost go hit by several vehicles, because they had to put on brakes, I was trying to go up then down a hilly road. I finally was able to get to an auto advance shop, I had to tow the car to Honda then to Buick for a diagnostic test. It had been over a month and I can’t get information in writing what the diagnostic test results are. I’ve had to rent a vehicle for over a month, even though I have a lifetime warranty on my power train and motor. I have submitted all my service and repair paperwork to john miles Buick conyers georgia, the gm and service department, also I contacted GMC corporate office. I have been in a rental car for over a month that I can no longer afford. I don’t know where else to get results for my issue. Thank you, xxx. 4 Power Train problem of the 2019 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 12/07/2025

The contact owns a 2019 Buick Encore. The contact stated that after the vehicle was stopped, the gear shift lever was stuck in park(p). After several attempts, the contact was able to move the gear shifter lever. The contact stated that the drive back to the residence was rough. Two or three days later, the gear shift lever failed to function as intended. The service warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed and retrieved dtc: p171d (for transmission pressure issue and oil leak). The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was provided with the same dtc and informed that the transmission had failed and was leaking fluid. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. Upon further investigation, the contact learned that the failure might be related to missing bolts on the transmission accumulator. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.

5 Power Train problem of the 2022 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 09/01/2025

The emc on the vehicle appears to be faulty. The vehicle is burning more than double the fuel than it should, and I’m able to smell a strong oil burning odor while driving it. The SUV lunges you forward violently when this defect begins to act up, which can be at any point in a short or longer trip. The vehicle has little to no power once this is triggered and seems to go into limping mode. I’ve had this to a dealer three times, and they have failed to repair the issue. The first time I left it there for almost a month and within three miles of the dealership, the same problem happened. The dealer denies that the repair should be covered under the emissions regulation, which makes gm-Buick responsible for repairs of this equipment until 8 years or 80,000 miles.

6 Power Train problem of the 2019 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 08/11/2025

•on January 25th 2025 I paid approximately $3,383 for a turbocharger repair on my 2019 Buick Encore. This included a turbocharger oil return tube, turbocharger oil supply and re, intercooler, int. Man. & val. Cov. Kit, r&r inter cooler, r&r turbocharger, r&r intake manifold, and turbocharger assembly. Since that time, the same problem has recurred and I have returned the vehicle to the same location on four separate occasions without resolution. It is currently available for inspection. •August 11th, 2025: vehicle stalled in the middle of an intersection as I attempted to accelerate from a stop sign, placing me in immediate danger of collision. •I have had the check engine code read by another independent service center. •no one else has inspected the vehicle •the check engine light has come off and on since January when the problem began after visiting mavis discount tire in sinking spring for a routine oil change. There were no symptoms prior to this first failure that signaled the issue that resulted in the repair. Prior to the incident on August 11th there had been repeated symptoms of an issue even when the check engine light was off. These issues included overheating, smoking, lack of acceleration, and stalling.

7 Power Train problem of the 2022 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 07/04/2025

I have had my vehicle to a gm dealer on a few occasions with the emc code stored in the vehicle and an active check engine light on. While I’m driving - now during 70 percent or more of my trips - my vehicle loses power very suddenly and lunges me forward. I’m unable to stop and go on hills of any noticeable grade and have narrowly missed being in an accident many times. The dealer’s service manager has told me I should just bf glad the car is drivable when I have expressed ongoing safety concerns. I cannot get assistance from gm nor from the dealer in having this warranty connected part replaced. I do not have any other vehicle to drive, and I know I’m unsafe. I teach school and must get back and forth to work.

9 Power Train problem of the 2019 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 05/30/2025

My daughter owns a 2019 Buick Encore and the check engine light keeps going on. She took her car to the dealer and was told that it needed a turbo bypass valve and solenoid valve. The car is just a few months within the 10 year powertrain warranty and the dealer refused to cover as defect. She drives on the freeway 45 minutes to/from work and this is a serious issue that causes the engine to rev hard and not stop as well as stall intermittently.

10 Power Train problem of the 2016 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 02/01/2025

My wife is [xxx] and I am [xxx] old. We purchased the 2016 Buick Encore with 29,000 miles from Buick GMC of beaverton, oregon on [xxx], expecting that it would out last both of us, since we are retired and only drive to the store and doctor's appointments; my wife has miraculously survived stage iv cancer since February 1, 2019. The Encore is our only car and we depend on it for all transportation. We love the vehicle, changed the oil about every 3,000 miles, and have had no complaints for almost six years. On [xxx], my wife and I were driving home from shopping, in rain at night on [xxx] north bound, left lane, uphill at 55mph in moderate traffic on a six-lane divided freeway. Suddenly the car lost half power, began missing and shaking badly, speed dropped to about 30 mph with cars serving behind us, flying past us honking. We were panicked, not knowing if the car would seize up completely or the engine would explode. Fortunately, we limped off the highway without having to stop. We took the car back to the dealership where we bought it, for service. The next day they emailed a video of their inspection of the vehicle showing cylinder 1 has very low compression of about 60 when normal should be 180 to 210 psi, which indicates a likely blown piston. April 30, 2019, NHTSA service bulletin 19-na-090 describes the identical symptoms the Encore is experiencing: misfire and low compression in one or more cylinders. Both the Buick GMC of beaverton dealership and general motors, 800-521-7300 are refusing to honor the original 70k mile warranty since they're indicating the warranty expired on 01/21/2023. We are devastated that because we pampered the vehicle and only drove it 17,000 miles in nearly 6 years, we are being unfairly penalized. Gm admits that if we had driven the vehicle more and this same engine failure occurred at just 49k miles prior to January 20, 2023, they would immediately replace the engine. Help! we are requesting that NHTSA information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act.

11 Power Train problem of the 2016 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 02/01/2025

This is an addendum to complaint # 11644925 before taking the car back to the dealership, Buick GMC of beaverton, for repairs, I called the owner of bassitt auto repair in beaverton oregon, 503-616-2007. He told me that they've had 3 other Buick Encores come to his repair shop in just the last 6 months, all with the identical problem. He said, without seeing our vehicle, that it is low compression due to a blown piston. He said to take the car to a Buick dealership, that this repair should be a recall, that the engine is most likely blown, and that no one with rebuild that engine.

12 Power Train problem of the 2021 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 01/26/2025

Turbo charger failed while passing a semi-trailer truck causing a severe lack of power and almost causing a head on collision with on-coming traffic. I had 3 passengers at the time. The problem has been confirmed by a independent service center and I am getting a second opinion from a dealer on 2/3. The check engine light did come on when it happened. There were no symptoms prior to failure. I have since researched the problem and found that turbo charger failure is the #1 issue with this make and year.

13 Power Train problem of the 2020 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 01/20/2025

Unknown issues w/ sensors and wiring lead to turbocharger failure. This led to spontaneous acceleration issues on the highway. Less than a year after the warranty covered the replacement of the turbocharger (less than 60k miles on the car) the turbocharger again failed (64k miles on car).

15 Power Train problem of the 2019 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 06/24/2024

I've only had the car for under a month and twice this has happened. When I came to a stop, the start/stop system was activated (engine shuts off) and I put the car in p (parked). Then when I placed it into reverse and released the brake which started the engine, there was a huge jolt/jerk/buck. This happened twice and as far as I know this these are the only times I've committed this specific sequence of events.

16 Power Train problem of the 2016 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 05/05/2024

Two different issues occurred. While driving the check engine light came on and then went off about 10 minutes later. While driving the vehicle to get check engine light code checked temperature suddenly jumped from normal operating temp just below mid to the top with instrument panel dinging saying engine overheating idle engine. As trying to make way to side of road the blind spot warning on passenger mirror began flashing constantly with no traffic within 1/4 mile from vehicle and instrument panel stating blind spot not available. Once able to get to have code checked showed same code that had been addressed with the replaced turbo 0299. Thermostat replaced less than 19k miles prior. When engine overheat came on power diminished rapidly.

20 Power Train problem of the 2015 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 01/05/2024

While at a stoplight, my Buick Encore's power steering just stopped working. I was only able to turn the steering wheel with great effort. The car would not go in reverse, although when pressing on the accelerator in reverse, the engine would rev. Shifting from drive to reverse also caused the car to jolt. The car is available for inspection. This has happened previously in fall of 2021, and the same exact thing happened, but this time while I was driving through an intersection. I was unable to steer and ran into a curb. My safety and safety of others was put at risk because I could have hit another driver or pedestrian the car has been inspected by a triple a approved mechanic twice (once in 2021 and once now), and they have not found any problems with the car. The power steering and traction lights came on on my dashboard.

21 Power Train problem of the 2016 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 01/01/2024

I purchased my 2016 Buick Encore from the car dealer name [xxx] in rochester michigan. I purchased it in December 20 23 beginning in January when I would change gears the car sounded like the gears were clunking like they were gonna fall out or something. Also, the engine hesitates and then excels really fast like I’m racing. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

24 Power Train problem of the 2015 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 07/09/2023

The turbocharger on my car is failing and had a verified check engine light code po299. The car is a 2015 with low miles, only 53k. This is an obvious manufacturer defect/defective product with an estimated cost of $1500. 00 to replace, according to an ase independent auto shop I use for all my vehicles. The car is unfortunately not under any warranty anymore, to my knowledge. There is no recall on this part but online on Buick forums and other credible sites, you will find owners of the same exact car reporting independently, the same failing part issues. I am the second owner of this car and bought it used in 2021 from carmax. Since then, I have spent $$$ to fix random necessary repairs that are defects of the car but not on recall. Recently, the ac went out and that was over $500 alone. Prior to that an 02 sensor and sparkplug went out, etc. I want gm to reimburse me for the repair cost of the failing turbocharger on this low mileage vehicle as it is without a doubt, a manufacturer defect needing repair to prevent the engine from failure and a total loss! I contacted a gm/Buick agent and formal complaint and request for reimbursement. I am now waiting for up to two days for a "senior agent," to contact me back and discuss further options, if any. Until then, I am without a car with two kids at home and this defect is unsafe and a financial burden to me and my family. This is a known issue on this vehicle model and should be covered under a recall from gm!.

27 Power Train problem of the 2021 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 01/30/2023

Already had turbo go on this car once back in July 2022. Mechanic replaced turbo with another one (used with 20,000 miles on it) due to the turbo for this car being on backorder. Now my car is throwing p0299 after about 20,000 more miles being put on the used turbo and a p0420 code. Changed rear catalytic. Changed upstream O2 sensor, changed wastegate solenoid, turbo seems to be working fine, no noises, but losing power going up hills at highway speeds. Seriously unhappy and no recalls on this vehicle but it has the same turbo as other vehicles that has had recalls!!! I think this should be a recall!!!.

28 Power Train problem of the 2018 Buick Encore

29 Power Train problem of the 2015 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 09/19/2022

I've had my car for 3 years. I've always kept up with it's maintenance. My engine/head gasket are blown and I found out this is a common issue with this car. The airbags also dont recognize when there are passengers in the car. I started my car up one morning in September and all of my lights started flashing. I immediately turned it off and towed it to my mechanic to find out that it pretty much has everything wrong with it. My car is barely above 80k.

31 Power Train problem of the 2017 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 07/01/2022

Back in July 2022 I started receiving error messages of the stabilitrak system to get checked by onstar. I took to ed martin Buick in carmel, in they thought that it was from possibly pressing brake and pedal at same time and fixed code. Then about two weeks later I got the same error code, I took to ray skillman northeast Buick they said it was a transmission manufacturing defect and had to do with manifold which they fixed under power train warranty. Now February 2023 I have same issue stabilitrak error message. I have to take back again to ray skillman northeast Buick. This is an ongoing issue and should not be receiving same codes car only has 67,000 miles and should not be having transmission issues either.

33 Power Train problem of the 2017 Buick Encore

Failure Date: 05/06/2022

Vehicle has been in and out of shop since Feb 2022 for 'limp mode' disabled due to faulty booster or something. Vehicles leave driver stranded unable to accelerate or maneuver vehicle to avoid a collision. I'm told this is a well known problem for both this vehicle and the chevy cruze although no recalls are out for this huge safety issue. Somebody is seriously going to get injured if driver is unable to move car to safety when it just dies on the highway or road. All documentation is available for the excessive repairs that don't resolve the issue the correction only last from 24 hours to 2 weeks before the light comes on again and car dies.
