1 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 11/23/2018

Both low beam headlights stopped working at the same time when the vehicle was started. Light switch was in "auto" position. Switching to manual position - low beam lights still won't operate. High beam and marker lights work as they should. Researching cause I found a NHTSA recall no. 15v519000 (gm no. 14291) for a faulty headlamp driver module (hdm) which adressed the issue. Reached out to Buick and was told the module for this vehicle had already been replaced in 2016 (original owner), issue closed. I appealed that if the corrective hdm failed again then the same safety issue exists and they should replace the part at fault as many times as necessary or modify the module not to fail continuously. What is the policy if a recall fix is replacing with a faulty part? thank you.

3 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 02/06/2016

I have had quite a few problems with having to replace bulbs in the front headlights of 2006 Buick Lacrosse. But, for the last 4 months when I drive car at night all of a sudden my dim lights go off and I cannot see a thing. Two times that this has happened I was meeting another car. Luckily, I was not involved in a headon collision. The lights go off, I have to switch to bright lights to drive. This is very annoying to me as well as others. If I park it for awhile they will work again. It seems to be just a short while after you crank car and start driving that it happens. I have seen where there are recalls on Buick's lighting but have not received notice of recall. Once I was driving on a farm to market highway; next time, driving on a city street in motion both times.

5 Headlight Switch problem of the 2008 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 12/18/2015

On Dec. 18th my wife and I were driving at night going to a christmas party when the low beam headlights went out without warning. I switched to the high beams as they were still functioning. We went the last mile to our destination on the high beams. I turned off the car to see if that would re;set the lights, it did not. We went to the party and came back to the car apx. 3 hours later. I started the car and the low beams came on. . After about 1/2 mile they went out again. . So I pulled over and shut off the car to see if they would come on upon re-start,they did not,so we continued on with high beams. After about 10 minutes the low beams came on for the rest of our trip home. The next day I researched the issue on-line and discovered a recall had been issued for this problem I contacted the local Buick dealer and was told they were of the problem but had no direction on how to fix it from g. M. My wife called another area Buick dealer and recieved the same reply. . She was able to get a hold of g. M. And was told they were aware of the issue and would get back to us. . We never r got any recall notice from g. M. I had to print all the forms from the NHTSA web site. . Seems to me that this a multi million dollar law suit waiting to happen after something really bad happens (it is only a matter of time). This problem is not just with te Buick Lacrosse there are other models involved. . So what can be done to get g. M. And their dealers to fix this?.

6 Headlight Switch problem of the 2008 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

In January of 2015 we received a recall notice from gm concerning the headlight driver module (gm safety recall 14291). We called the dealer several times to be told they were waiting for parts. We began experiencing a "headlights recommended" signal several times in broad daylight, but lived with it. When I was in the hospital in October recovering from cancer surgery my wife experienced a headlight failure when driving home alone at night. A neighbor took the car to the Buick dealer and they installed a relay, part #15016745. We then noticed that the left front headlight and the right rear tailight were not lit. As soon as I was cleared to drive I took it back and they insisted that it could not have been their fault, that it was just a coincidence that it happened at that time. I paid the $68. 93 for new bulbs. . Read more...

7 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 08/24/2015

When driving home from a meeting about 30 miles from home my headlights went out. I tried to switch to manual control of the headlights it didn't work. The only light that I could use my the temporary bright lights when there were no other cars were coming in the opposite direction. The following day I went to gusweiler gm center to find out what happened. They said it was the headlamp driver module relay. I had them make the repair at a cost of $160. 29.

9 Headlight Switch problem of the 2009 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 05/02/2015

Was going down highway at night and my headlights suddenly went off ,I had to drive about 4 miles with no headlights and blinkers flashing. As I pulled into my stop and put car in park ,lights came back on. I drove back home no problem . Called dealer on Monday they made an appt. For me on Wednesday may 6,2015 and they replaced headlight internal switch and charged me 121. 69+ tax also said battery was testing bad so another 99. 95+ tax . Now since I don't drive much and especially not at night it was a while longer ,but in July I experienced it again same thing ,except this time I pulled off highway and was messing with light switch and figured out I could turn switch from auto on to manual on and my bright lights would work. I tried getting it fixed but this time l&m motors said they couldn't find anything wrong but if I had the problem again to swing by and let them see. Well since in the daytime you wouldn't know this ,and they are closed at 5pm before dark ,not much of a chance ,right?? so any way I found out there is a pending recall, so how do I drive at night??? until it can be fixed .

10 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 02/18/2015

I was driving early in the morning to work and had my light switch on auto and my headlights just randomly shut off then 10 mins later came back on. It does this intermittently since and it's a major problem I have children in my vehicle and it's very dangerous. When the lights go out my brights still work and all interior lights work how ever the headlights do not work then come back on after a short while I also smell a burning smell by the headlights.

11 Headlight Switch problem of the 2009 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 01/06/2015

The contact owns a 2009 Buick Lacrosse. While driving at night, the headlights failed. In order to continue driving, the contact had to use the high beam lights to drive home. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the relay switch was replaced; however, the failure recurred. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v755000 (exterior lighting) and stated that the part needed for the repair was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 104,000. VIN tools confirms parts not available.

12 Headlight Switch problem of the 2009 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 11/07/2014

My mothers automatic low beam headlights will intermittently function. My mother is 85 years old and this is a potentially dangerous condition for her. She is not as attentive as she was when she was younger and she does not notice that the lights are not shining until she gets in a rural area and realizes that she cannot see. This can cause her to get a little anxious and confused until she stops to turn on the headlights manually. This condition was brought to the attention of a Chevrolet dealer and she was told that the part that was needed to fix this problem for a potential 269,586 vehicles was not available. This is ridiculous! a tempory replacement part was installed on 7/29/15. The recall bulliten states that only the low beam lights are affected. This is not correct with this vehicle. On my mothers vehicle the high beam and low beam lights may or may not work on the automatic setting. The vehicle does not have to be hot. This condition is still present on a cold or hot vehicle since the temporary part was installed! the dash indicator lights do not function properly also. The local dealer has been very nice and has done everything that gm has told them to do. Gm has apparently not learned it's lesson over the key switch recall and gm does not seem too concerned over this problem. Gm's response to this recall is irresponsible and unacceptable. If gm knew just how upset my mother was about this malfunction they might be more concerned. My mother has only been trying for ten months to get the headlights repaired. I can only assume that gm must see this malfunction as an unimportant issue!.

14 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 09/06/2014

While driving through town during the early evening my headlights shut off. I pulled over to the side of the road to determine my options. I tried using the switch (instead of the automatic headlights) to force he headlights to turn on. That did not work. I began to head back toward home to try to determine what went wrong with my car. While driving back home (within a mile of the headlights turning off) my headlights turned back on. About a block or two later the headlights turned off again. Another block or two and the headlights turned back on. I drove to get some dinner and while waiting at the drive-thru the headlights again turned off. A minute or two later the headlights turned back on and stayed on for the drive back home. I wound up driving approximately three miles without knowing if my headlights would stay on or off or if I was in danger of a car fire. I wound up replacing the hdm module.

15 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 09/03/2014

2006 Buick Lacrosse. Consumer requests reimbursement for vehicle headlights. The low beam head light, dimmer switch and relay module were replaced. Updated 06/25/jb.

16 Headlight Switch problem of the 2008 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 04/17/2013

Underhood fuse block caught on fire from the headlamp driver module micro-relay #35 melting down. Headlights went off and the battery started draining. Pulled over, turned off the car, and opened the hood to discover that the #35 micro-relay was arcing and had melted itself to micro-relays #44 windshield wipers and #38 air conditioning compressor. Both windshield wipers and air conditioner was off at the time. Even though the engine was off the relay continued to arc and was melting the underhood fuse block. Grabbed an insulated set of pliers and pulled the #35 micro-relay (the #44 and #38 relay came out at the same time). Arcing stopped with the micro-relays removed. I have filed a previous report on the #35 headlamp driver module micro-relay, because it had turned off the low-beam headlights while I was driving, at night, on the highway. Turning the light switch to manual-on did not turn the low-beam headlights back on. I had the #35 headlamp driver module micro-relay replaced and it too proved to be defective. After just a few months, it started turning on the headlights about 10 minutes after the vehicle was turned-off. Had to have my vehicle jump started, replaced the battery, and replaced the #35 headlamp driver module micro-relay, yet again. The 3rd #35 headlamp driver module micro-relay, caused an electrical fire, costing me over $700 to repair. Apparently there is no fuse to prevent the melt-down of the micro-relays. There is no caution, and no warning in the owners manual, to advise the user about what to do in the case of the low-beam headlights suddenly going off. There is no protection against an electrical fire being caused by the #35 headlamp driver module micro-relay, or any other relay from starting an electrical fire.

17 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 02/09/2013

Low beam headlights do not work. Lights worked fine, parked the car in the garage, lights stayed on delay mode and both were fine. Driving home the next night, several oncoming vehicles flashed lights, I pulled into a parking lot to check my lights. . . No low beam lights. Switched from auto to manual mode, still no low beam lights, high beam lights work fine. I have read that several others have this same problem. Nobody seems to have a solution. I do not feel I should need to pay the dealer to 'analyze the problem' and charge an outrageous price to fix this, this is a definite safety issue!.

18 Headlight Switch problem of the 2008 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 07/06/2012

Headlights went off while driving 60 mph in the dark and no nearby light sources were present. Turned headlight control to manual and still no headlights. Stopped vehicle and everything but the headlights were still working. Turned off the air conditioning, the fan, the radio, and still no headlights. Turned car off and back on, still no headlights. Turned car off again and waited 5 minutes and restarted car and headlights came on. This has happened 2 times now, 3 months apart. Dealership denied any knowledge of this problem the 1st time I talked to them, but admits now that several other people have also tried to get this problem fixed but they were unable to duplicate the problem. If I had been driving on a curve, I would most likely be dead now and they would be guessing why I ran off the road (user error), when they know there is a defect in design. Light switch on manual should bypass everything except the fuse.

19 Headlight Switch problem of the 2007 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 11/11/2011

While driving on the highway in the rain, my headlights went out. I was terrified. Turning the switch on and off would not fix the problem. I took the car to the dealership. They said they could not duplicate the problem and would not fix it. I had taken the car to the dealership shortly after purchase in 2009 and had complained of leaking seal on the top edge of the driver's side door in the rain. Water would drip all over my left arm, shoulder and arm rest. They said they could not duplicate the problem and would not fix it. Now the headlights will refuse to work on an intermittent basis. The dealership will not fix it. The dash reads headlights suggested but they will not come on. I can use the dimmer on the steering column and the bright lights will work, but driving with bright lights into oncoming traffic is dangerous. I need to have a dealer fix this problem. I took the car through a car wash for the first time the other day and the lights have been acting up again. Please have someone contact me and authorize repairs at the dealership. I am afraid to drive even a short distance at night not knowing when my headlights will suddenly go out again. It has happened several times now. It really scares me and concerns me that a dealership would not repair the problem. Updated 09/10/lj the consumer also stated there was a noise coming from the steering, a squeaking noise coming from the dash area, and water would drip through the top door, every time it rained. Also, there was a vibration issue, so the dealer replaced the tires, but it didn't resolve the issue.

23 Headlight Switch problem of the 2007 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 09/12/2009

In the past six months, the headlights on my 2007 Buick Lacrosse have turned off on their own several times. Twice this has occurred at night and twice during twilight. Adjusting the headlight switch does nothing to affect the lights. This problem affects the low beam lights only. The car has been taken to the dealer with this reported problem 3 times. They report that no problem was found, but they did replace a part once that has had not remedied the problem.
