36 Power Train problem of the 2013 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 01/05/2018

When the car had mileage in the mid-upper 30,000 in 2018, we noticed that as the speed coasted down to 30mph, there was a hard downshift. So hard, you thought the engine fell out of the car. At the time we had not realized it only did this when the engine was cold. So, when we took it to the dealer, they could not replicate the issue. In 12/2019, we left it overnite and they "did" replicate the issue the next morning. This is stated on our service bill. They suggested a deep atm flush, even though we had a normal flush 18 months earlier with them. We paid them to do it and the problem persists. Since we slow down every time we approach a stop sign or stoplight, this occurs as we get down to 30mph. Exactly at 30mph!!! once the engine is warm it, we do not notice the issue. But we live in northern ohio & the nites are cold oct-April. We drove the car to warm miami FL in 1/2020. It still did it, but only a mild downshift then quickly did not repeat as the temp was warmer there. To reduce the hardness of the downshift, we have reverted to trying to let the car warm up after starting it and applying the brakes as we slow down to 30mph! it is sad that this has to be done, as we have been taking great care of the car & it only has 48,000 miles. And we are not moving to FL!!! we bought the car new from this dealer.

43 Power Train problem of the 2010 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 03/15/2017

When I purchased this vehicle with the powertrain warranty still intact I had the check engine light come on several times. Took it to the dealer and they said it was nothing and had it reset. Over the past few years I have had it come on more frequently since then and now it has been on for over a year. With frustrating amounts of time spent to try to determine what the issue is I finally found out the timing chain and seals need to be replaced. One of the symptoms is that the oil in my car is not being distributed properly. This would also be one of the reasons I have had to add oil before every 3000 mile oil change because all of a sudden my car will start running hard and acceleration is harder. Many times I would only put 1500 miles on my car and my oil wold be bone dry. Put oil in and it gets better. If I wouldnt have have caught this my engine would surely have been blown. So now 3 years later I am stuck with this issue which should have been found while under warranty as all the same issues were occurring then and now. I cant seem to access my Buick account online surprisingly but it did have all my service records proving my attempts with them. This is not the only issue, I know that the same vehicle just with a samller engine has been recalled for the same thing. Why not the bigger engine? I now have a $2000 repair to make not including the several hundred it took to determine the issue. Something should be done about this issue that is happening in Buicks of this age and newer because it is happening alot. I have many service receipts showing the process of this and also the diagnosis today and theone I will be getting tomorrow to confirm and will be glad to forward on to you if needed.

While driving at highway speeds (65+ mph) the information center will display 'reduced engine power' and car will down shift and only reach 45 mph. Causing close to rear-end crash. You have to leave the highway traffic immediately and turn off engine. Re-start engine and continue driving. It has happened twice now. Seems like a software problem.

47 Power Train problem of the 2011 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 11/15/2016

My vehicle a 2011 Buick Lacrosse cxl 2. 4l engine rpo laf. I have a problem with the engine making noise due to balance shaft chain special coverage recall 12313 where back then they included in the recall the balance shaft chain, tensioner, and also the engine mount high pressure fuel pump, then to say this bulletin has been revised to remove special coverage adjustment for the fuel pump that is now included in voluntary emissions recall 43180. Updates have been made to the part information, service procedure, and warranty transaction information sections. Please discard all copies of bulletin 12313b. Came the revised 12313b and now as of September 2016 revised again to 12313c. When you look at the 43180 it does not include the 2011 Buick Lacrosse with the same engine rpo laf. I've called gm various times and spoke even to the gm dealer, my car was even at the dealer sitting there for weeks to only say it's not covered that I have to wait for it to get recalled. My vehicle has the same exact symptoms, the oil smells like gas, and I can't shut off the vehicle, it stays running and the only way to shut it off is putting it on drive then shutting it off. All this due to on some 2010-2011 model year Buick Lacrosse, Chevrolet equinox, and GMC terrain; and 2011 model year Buick regal vehicles, equipped with a 2. 4l engine (laf), the chrome layer on the balance chain pins may wear, allowing the chain to stretch. This would cause an engine noise, and if left untreated, could cause the chain to break, leading to engine damage. This is causing the engine to not run right and a hard time to accelerate gm case # 8-2573359821.

52 Power Train problem of the 2010 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

On Friday, July 1, 2016 I was traveling down a 2 lane road with my cruise control set when my car suffered a loss of power. The engine still was running, but apparently my transmission lost the ability to power the car. I was able to park on the shoulder of the road, and eventually, towed to my mechanics shop. Yesterday I was told the problem was a faulty transmission control and it will cost me $1060 to repair. I was also told that this is a common enough problem that Buick dealers keep the part in stock. . If it is that common of a problem, and cars are losing power on the road, that is a safety issue and should be subject to recall, instead of taking hard earned money out of owners pockets to fix! I might add that this car has less than 68,000 miles on it!.

58 Power Train problem of the 2012 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 10/05/2015

We have a 2012 Buick Lacrosse with eassist. When driving at around 65 mph on the highway without the cruise control engaged the vehicle door locks suddenly unlock and lock, the car downshifts and the rpms go way up and a light comes on that says "service power steering". We have taken it to the dealership at least 3 times for this issue and they say that because there is no code dropped in the computer when it does it and they don't have it happen when they test drive it, they don't know what to do. The car has 53k miles on it and this has probably happened about 2 dozen times. The entire event lasts for about 10 seconds but it is vary scary when you are crusing along at 65+ mph and all of these these events just happen, especially the high rpms, because it's like engine braking as the transmission downshifts.

60 Power Train problem of the 2011 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 05/13/2015

Currently, my car has 62k miles on it. 2011 Buick lacross cxl awd 3. 6 engine. The car is jerking forward during the low speeds between 2000-2500 rpm , when I move my foot off the accelerator, tranny shifts from 1st gear to 2nd or 3rd to 4th and this makes a very noticeable forward jerk. I have noticed this 6 months ago when it was not very noticeable but now it is getting worse. Specially in the city, during the stop and go traffic it is really very annoying and dangerous. If I drive longer it gets worse and sometimes I have to slam on the breaks to stop or slow down the car specially if I am going downhill. This happens when I start accelerating slowly from stop, up to 2000-2500 rpm and then move my foot off the accelerator. Basically tranny shifts to the 2nd gear (or 3rd) and jerks very noticeably forward. If I keep on pressing the gas pedal , it keeps acceleration without any problem. In slow stop and go city traffic if I want to slow down or stop, I basically take my foot off the gas pedal, this causes car to shift to upper gear and jerk forward, sometimes in the traffic I need to slam on the brakes to stop or slow down. Happens only during the low speeds (10-20 mph) , and stop and go traffic.

65 Power Train problem of the 2008 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 10/02/2014

The engine died without warning and would not restart. Fortunately, I was on a quiet street and so I could stop curbside. Lights etc. Worked but power steering, power brakes, engine were all dead. The cause was a cracked ignition coil that shorted and "fried" the ignition module. This was an original-equipment part, probably a delphi gn10123 (from my internet research; I could be wrong). Had this happened on a high-speed road, the results could have been disastrous.

66 Power Train problem of the 2012 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 09/25/2014

Aprox. 1130 pm on August 27th, 2015, I was driving (60 mph) home from work and lost all power stearing, I almost had a accident and cashed my 2012 Buick Lacrosse due to the loss of power steering. I made it about a half of a mile down the street and called 911 for assistance since it was dark. I had to call a tow trcuk to come get my car and take it to the local repair shop. On Friday August 28th the dealership said they had to order my part it was the surpintine belt and it wouldnt be there until Monday August 31st. On Monday 8/31/2015 the dealship tech says it may be a motor issue but wont know until he tried the belt first. Monday 8/31/15 the auto tech said the dealership did not have the tool. On Tuesday 9/1 the dealership said they have the tool but now my car needs not only a belt but the tensioner as well. The dealership is quoting me a price of over $650 plus the cost of my rental car. After some research I found a bulletin in March 2012 for Buick Lacrosse and regals with faulty surpintine belts made of tensil or copper that needed to be replaced by spetember 2012, I did not purchase my car untl November 2012. Now gm is refusing to fix the part enven though I still have a 100k mile powertrain warranty and they have the broadcast notification of a faulty part. Now gm refuses to pay for the part and/or my rental car. I almost had a injury due to the malfunction. I need assistance. Please advise.

68 Power Train problem of the 2008 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 07/07/2014

For the third time, this vehicle has died at a standstill for no apparent reason. It will be performing well until parked. After a span of time, it will not restart. When key is inserted into ignition, the motor will not catch or turn over, the key will freeze or lock in the ignition in the "on" position, nothing in the vehicle can be operated - gear shift, radio/player, door locks, trunk lid, etc. , etc. Etc. The car is completely seized up. Inspection will disclose that battery, including brand new battery, is dead ( no voltage whatsoever). Only way to restart vehicle is to recharge battery. This has happened three times over span of 9 to 10 months. When battery is recharged, vehicle will operate for months until it is dead again. Something is draining the battery, but there no logical explanation; nothing such as radio, lights, etc. , is being left on. Some auto repair people believe there is a short in the car's wiring harness; others believe the defective ignition system is at fault.
