9 Steering problem of the 2013 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 12/03/2024

Power steering went out while I was on the highway. It was all of a sudden, and I had been driving on the highway for at least 2 hours. This caused my steering to be not as controlled, and could have caused a wreck if driving by a less advance and experienced driver. The only time the warning lamp came on was the minute it happened, and when completely out. I had to drive on the highway over an icy pass for another 45 minutes. It was very difficult and stressful. It thankfully did not cause any accidents, or other damage that I am aware of.

14 Steering problem of the 2012 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 01/18/2024

The stabilitrak system has an incorrect calibration that may cause the system to not properly detect if a sensor were to malfunction, and the warning light indicating that the system is not operating would not illuminate, as required in the safety standard. The stabilitrak system falsely activates resulting in sudden changes in vehicle handling and deceleration, particularly at higher speeds, which may cause the driver difficulty in maintaining the vehicle's desired path of travel and desired vehicle speed, and could result in a crash without warning.

15 Steering problem of the 2016 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 12/23/2023

I lost power steering while driving 70 mph on a two-lane highway in wyoming. There were no warnings before the incident, but a service power steering light came on at the same time it quit working. One mechanic shop did a diagnosis on the car. I was told that the electric gear power steering motor needs to be replaced along the whole rack and pinion that it's attached to has to be replaced because of the way it's designed. I found out that 2,000 of these same model and year of cars had a recall on them for this exact problem, but my car's VIN wasn't included in that recall. After doing thorough research on the internet, I have found that this is a common issue with these cars, and it's obvious that the manufacturer should have included more cars in the recall. I have just turned 77,000 miles on my car, and I have been given a $4,000 estimate to get it repaired. It is completely undrivable at this time.

16 Steering problem of the 2016 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 11/01/2023

While navigating a curve, my power steering quit, nearly causing me to hit an oncoming car in the opposite lane. I stop and search the car for issues but found none. The care returned to normal steering and two days later, I had a vehicle pull out in front of me, while quickly avoiding the other car, my power steering quit working again. Luckily, I was able to overcome the steering but it certainly shocked me. This is a most definite safety concern that must be looked at closer before someone seriously gets hurt.

17 Steering problem of the 2016 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 08/06/2023

I was driving on a main street. Received power steering fluid message and then steering well locked up. Could not manuever it. Had to pull over to call for assistance, to no avail. The manual states it is a electrical power issue. I've taken this car in numerous of times for various services, specially the "jerking" of the car. I've discovered there was a recall for the power steering today was announced a few years ago but never gotten a letter to have mine checked. I just recently picked my car up from servicing and there is no notation of needing power steering fluid. I feel like this is a dangerous issue especially if had locked up on the highway!.

19 Steering problem of the 2012 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 04/25/2023

We're purchasing this vehicle from superior auto, and we seen a recall back in 2011/12 from stabiltrak and deterrent auto theft, since this $21, 240 car we've had issues causing the car to shut off and lock up without warning, no power steering or brakes, and stabiltrak and auto deterrent theft warning pop up, and had it to 2 mechanics that are baffled and it produces no codes, I've almost gotten in 3 accidents causing this, and now I'm too scared to drive this car, the recall had same issues for improperly calibrated esc defective sensors not showing codes, nobody will fix the issue without codes and I don't need to hurt or kill anyone. Superior auto is not caring about taking this car back or trading it in, please help me figure this out, there was no accidents, but this car is unsafe for the road.

22 Steering problem of the 2013 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 10/17/2022

The first time this happened the power steering service warning light came on after I started the car. I was unable to move or steer the car. After about an hour, I started the car and the light did not come on and the car could be driven. About 2 days later, the same thing happened but the light stayed on. The car was towed to the dealership and after an evaluation it was determined that the steering gear/rack and pinion assembly had to be replaced. (see the uploaded invoice from thompson automotive group and photos of the parts that were replaced. ) the car is a 2013 that I purchased in August 2020. The original mileage at that time was 600 miles. When the incident occurred with the power steering, the car had been driven 44,571 miles. The car was purchased from a private owner so there was no warranty, but even without a warranty this type of failure should not have occurred when the car had been driven less than 50,000 miles.

23 Steering problem of the 2015 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 07/08/2022

My wife was driving and went to turn the vehicle and the steering locked up momentarily. She drove directly home a block away and pulled into the garage. When attempting to take the car for service it would not turn in either direction.

24 Steering problem of the 2012 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 07/01/2022

Stability control light keeps coming on the car shut downs in the middle of the road or it won’t start I called Buick they say there is no recall but it shows on the NHTSA site 2012 Buick has a improperly calibrated faulty electric stabilitrack esc campaign id number 11v404000 so I don’t under stand why my car can’t be fixed this very dangerous for me an my kids it they won’t even look at my car.

25 Steering problem of the 2014 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 06/17/2022

Steering became stiff while driving and locked up once the car was parked. Could have locked while I was on the road. There was a message "power steering issue - contact service" or similar that appeared after the steering became stiff and before it locked up. The car is currently parked and waiting to be towed to a dealership for repair. 2014 Buick Lacrosse with 67,000 +/- miles and my last Buick purchase.

26 Steering problem of the 2012 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 05/11/2022

While driving stability trac, check engine light flashed and rpm, and speed gauges start going haywire. The car loses power even while accelerating, the steering wheel locks and car stalls. Then after 15-30 minutes the car starts fine and drives. Has happened at least 8 times. Took it to Buick dealer who ran diagnostic but unable to recreate codes but acknowledged a problem. Supposedly fixed it only to return the car a few days later. This is quite scary and dangerous as it happens without warning and while driving. Thankfully I wasn't on the expressway when it happened because all steering, power and brake function is lost.

27 Steering problem of the 2006 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 09/20/2021

In spite of multiple wheel alignments, where all of the wheels are in alignment with each other, this car still pulls sharply to the right. It is noted amongst internet discussion groups that general motors/Buick has a common problem with a steering sensor/computer interface that causes this steering problem. I have contacted dealerships, along with Buick's California "response team" with no solution. Everybody I've spoken to so far appears to be clueless about this problem which I suspect is not a truthful response from them. The pulling has been going on for approximately 10 years, but my father (the original owner of this car) was already elderly at the time and had difficulty talking with people on the phone because of hearing loss. He let this fester. This is a serious issue because of the consistent pulling that could lead to lane drifting and cause an accident.

28 Steering problem of the 2014 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 08/16/2021

The contact owns a 2014 Buick Lacrosse. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph, the power steering suddenly failed, and the steering wheel became very difficult to turn in either direction. During the failure the power steering warning message had displayed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who reprogrammed the power steering module however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was then towed to the local dealer who reprogrammed the power steering module again however, the failure persisted. The contact was then advised that the power steering system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.

29 Steering problem of the 2015 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 07/28/2021

Power steering went out while driving roughy 45/50 mph. Unknown reason why it went out.

30 Steering problem of the 2015 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 07/27/2021

While driving at approximately 55 mph, my power steering went out (at first I thought I had blown a tire). It became almost impossible to perform any quick/reactionary steering changes. I put on my hazards and drove to the dealership and then for a second opinion with my local trusted mechanic. Both advised the electronic steering assembly went bad, that there is a new part #, indicative of a high failure rate; however, the part is not available in all of north America (they checked. ) they called gm Buick and were advised an eta on the backorder for the part is unknown. They filed for an emergency backorder request and are awaiting further information. Now, I have an undriveable vehicle, there are no loaner cars available, the cheapest rental car is a full car payment every three days, and no idea how long before the vehicle will be able to be repaired as it is too dangerous to drive in its current state. I think this needs to be investigated, as this issue sounds like it should be a recall before someone gets killed.

31 Steering problem of the 2010 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 07/06/2021

While driving on highway the engine stopped suddenly and steering wheel was locked. The car had to be towed to repair shop.

32 Steering problem of the 2013 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 06/05/2021

Our family was returning home after a trip out of town and as we were pulling into the driveway going less than 5mph the power steering goes out. However, indicator power steering light was already on from a similar issue reported previously where I was traveling in the city limits going 55-60 mph which was fixed by a non GMC dealer about a year ago. Current mileage 100,000 and first initial incident occurred at 77,000 miles. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Additionally, my engine check light came on last month and my vehicle service codes eluded to a short in the electrical system causing vehicle to intermittently lose power. The service check light comes off and on at will depending on the day which is a hazard because it can pose a risk to safety at any time coupled with the steering issue equals danger danger. The electrical system service codes were diagnosed by a non GMC dealer.

33 Steering problem of the 2011 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 04/19/2021

Stabilitrack service light came on.

34 Steering problem of the 2012 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 04/06/2021

I was driving my car to my house an my car started acting funny. While driving randomly 2 lights came on saying service brake assist and service stabili track. It became extremely hard to steer, the automatic brakes stopped working and it cut off on the highway. I put it in neutral and got to the side of the road. When I cut it back on it had the following warning lights; service brake assist, service stabili track. I almost died and my girl had to pay for a tow truck for me to get home and I was right up the street. I feel like it dangerous and when I told GMC they said its nothing they could do. It is several recalls with vehicles just like mine that are the same year with the same problems but they said they would not help me. My car is not drivable and I can not afford to get all the things fixed that were recalls. I am immobile and it is causing harm to me financially. I trusted GMC and I feel like they should do right by consumers.

35 Steering problem of the 2010 Buick Lacrosse
