Steering Problems of Buick Lacrosse - part 2

Our steering went out on interstate 65 while traveling about 70 miles per hour. We were near an exit and I was able to pump my brakes and get off without causing an accident that could have caused a multiple pile-up, injuries and potential deaths. The problem was diagnosed and repaired by a gm dealership. The car was towed directly for repair—no manufacturer (other than gm repair), police or insurance representative was involved. A message saying “power steering assist needs service” appeared on the dash 5 to 8 seconds before the steering went out.

My car cuts off and gives warning of battery charging system failure when I slow to stop at red lights or turn in my driveway. . I've changed the belt and it's still doing it. I bought this car in 2017 and I am concerned that maybe the recall wasnt changed for eassist components. I have a 2 year old. I cant stearns my car because it's too hard when engine kills. It its very dangerous and something major is wrong.

On 8-6-2020, (about 11 am) while driving (about 70mph) north on i43 in eastern wisconsin, at a point north of sheboygan, the message �service power steering� appeared on the dash. When I started to drive off to a rest stop, I realized the steering was very stiff and required extra effort to guide the car, the �electric power steering� (eps) had completely failed. How could this happen when the car was only 7 years old with 64941 miles, less than 10k mi/yr!!! I carefully drove the car to bergstrom Buick GMC in green bay wis. The diagnosis was the entire eps gear box had to be replaced with a cost near $2500. I was stunned. I complained to the service manager that because of the cars age & elapsed miles, this should not have happened! I further stated that I could understand that something like this might happen after 10 years & 100k miles, but not before!! he replied the car was out of warranty and that failures like this can happen. Eventually the car was satisfactorily repaired, copy of the bill attached. My contention is that this is not only a reliability issue, but more importantly a safety issue. When my wife & I purchased the car, we were both retired and did not have the daily grind of driving to/from work in all kinds of weather. In fact the car was driven minimally in adverse conditions. When this failure occurred, I had the composure to safely steer/guide the car, had my wife been driving, the incident could have had a catastrophic result. I now have �much pause� about the reliability/safety of eps vs hydraulic ps (hps), if & when this will happen again! a similar complaint was filed with Buick GMC customer service.

I was driving my car down a interstate highway when all of a sudden the stability track can on my dash and the car freaked out and breaked really hard ! I stated to spin out and then a loud crack the lower control arm broke on the rear right side . We almost really lost our lives! this is the 12 time this has happen and the mechanics tell me nothing is wrong they can see!! I'm taking it to Buick to see what they say this should be recalled ASAP! somebody will get severely hurt soon omg.

I was driving and service power steering message came on and all of a sudden my steering wheel got so hard I couldn't even turn my wheel it was so hard to pull over I put my hazard lights on so I could let traffic know im having trouble with my car it happened 3times the first time 2020 second time 2021 and 2022.

While driving at 75mph, there was a sudden loss of power steering. I barely managed to get off the highway. The next day I started the vehicle and the steering returned. The steering has been intermittently going out since I parked it at home. I start the car frequently to keep the battery charged and each time the steering may or may not work.

Hello I have a 2012 Buick Lacrosse, when I first bought the vehicle I notice that the service stability track light would come on and immediately after would follow that my motors speed had been reduced. After learning all of this about the vehicle I searched if there was any recalls concerning this matter and in fact found that 2012 Buick Lacrosse did have a recall for the service stability track but when I made the call for my vehicle I was told that my car wasn't part of that recall. I'm now dealing with this problem and to the best of my knowledge and research, I found out as well that if the service stability track was to start acting up it could cause my vehicle to come to a stop and could very much so cause a horrific accident. So I'm asking if you could please take it in consideration to make it to where all of the 2012 Buick Lacrosse 3. 6l should have the recall for the service stability track. Thank you for your time and hope that you make the better judgement call to bring this to light and make it to where all 2012 Buick Lacrosse owners are able to get this situation fixed or brought to there attention before a problem or accident. My headlights continue to blow, my windshield wipers will not come on. My radio goes out and on. When starting my car using push start my car stall. Hesitate to start but finally starts after so many tries. I have had to jump start car and recently had a battery replaced. Now the power steering is gone out. I can barely turn steering wheel. , this happened while driving home from work. My dashboard is very dim. It went completely black a couple of times while driving when came back it's barely lit I can barely see gas gauge, or speed odometer.

I was driving out a navy federal bank in augusta georgia and when making a left turn, my steering wheel locked and caused me to crash into a light pole and ruined my entire front end of my vehicle. It locked as if the car wasn't there in motion and as if it was a safety procedure for the steering wheel.

The contact stated that the failure was similar to NHTSA campaign numbers: 13v173000 (electrical system) and 13v097000 (power train, electrical system). The failure mileage was 70,000.

I got this v�hicule and work only for 22 days. Were I got it this place should be check.

2013 Buick Lacrosse - power steering stopped working while my 19-year-old daughter was driving at approximately 35 mph! steering wheel completely locked up. Potentially hazardous condition. Gm must address this issue with the power steering mechanism on these vehicles! very expensive repair ($2,600) and it took 3 weeks to find the part due to gm being on strike.

Radio and dash components cut out and go black. Then when they come. Back on a service battery message comes on the display but goes away withing a second or two. And the power steering will stop while all this is happening if turning.

Windows will not defog ac barely runs took it in to a shop to get a recharge but still nothing. My seat rocks back and forth like a rocking chair on driver side. I also have pictures and videos but don't know how send copy paste the link to you. . .

While driving in traffic on city street during rush hour traffic my vehicle completed shut down no warning, engine light popped on, the wheel became stiff the brakes became stiff. I put it in park, turned the ignition offend started it up again, it started right up and I continued driving for another 4 miles engine light remained on. Pulled into parking shut if off and started it back up but engine light remained on, drove 4 miles home, as turning onto street shut off again wheel locked, brakes stiff, repeat first steps, drove 50 ft, shut off, drove another 50 ft shut off, but then didn't start back up right away. Wait a minute started up but was hesitating. Never had this happen, 130k miles on it.

Steering freezes up in mostly damp, wet days when driving very slow into parking area's. . . . . Steering completely locks. . . Cannot move wheel at all. . . . After a minute or less, I hear a noise and the wheel is unlocked. . . Happened numerous times over last two months , but seems to be happening more past few weeks. . . I am afraid to drive car. . .

I was driving on the highway at approximately 70 miles an hour when my power steering went out. With great difficulty I was able to move across lanes and get to an exit. I drove to the nearest Buick dealer who said they were too backed up to help. While at the Buick dealer I turned the engine off. When I turned the engine back on, the power steering was working again.

The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000. The VIN was unknown.

The engine light had come on and I went to a repair shop to have it repaired. I was told to bring it back the next day and on my way back the charging light came on. I was on the highway doing 70 miles an hour in a curve when all systems went down the instrument panel lit up and I lost braking, steering and all other functions. And I was very lucky to not have wrecked the car. This is a very dangerous situation that needs to be corrected.

While driving around 65 mph on a highway. The battery light went on. Then suddenly the power steering and brakes died. It was very scary. A hugh safety issue, this very easily could have lead to a serious accident, crash or death. The steering was very difficult to turn and the brakes hard to push down. But the car was still running and luckily I was close to a exit. I pulled off the highway and stopped in store parking lot. It would not start after getting there. I had to have it taken to a Buick dealership. It was also showing a air bag error message. They told me it had to do with the seat position or something like that. I have had it there 6 times this year with the same issue. About 3 weeks ago for the 7th time of taking it there they finally replaced the hybrid battery stating that was the problem. However it worked for only 9 days. When I went to drive it on the ninth day, the battery light was again on and had no power steering or brakes. I left it in my garage, but ultimately had to take it back to the company who has now had it for 2 weeks stating that there is some type of parasitic draw on the batter and it won't hold a charge. They also can't find the issue with what's wrong with the car. This car is not safe and should be recalled.

The issue I'm reporting has already happened approximately 8 times. First time I'm driving on the highway at 65 mph, and engine on car completely shuts down, driving wheel locks or power steering gets lost and brake pedal stops working gets very stiff and all this happened on a state highway. All that can be done is let the car come to a complete stop in its own all while using all my force to try my best to steer car away from traffic, because it locks and that time I could barely make it turn slightly due to the stiffness. After that, the car's engine wont start but lights and radio work. After constantly turning it in and off engine finally starts up after approximately an hour, but when placed on drive only moves very slow even when stepping on gas it will move at about 1 mph. I turn it off and on several time and then when I finally step on the gas it jerks me forward finally when on drive. . . .

My steering seems to be loose way to much play I've tightened a bolt on bottom of steering arm thing twice still is coming loose difficult to steer also seems to be missing rubber or defective prices . Will crash can't control car . Stability control issues over and over also tc. And air bags are faulty. In motion major steering prob.

I submit this complaint on behalf of my senior citizen mother who is 75 years old. My mom had a very scary experience & got locked inside of her Buick car for over 1/2 hour & could not unlock any of 4 car doors from inside to escape out of her car. Plus, key would not turn in ignition & car wheel locked up. It was winter season !! car was stationery. All car windows were rolled up so my mom could not get any heat nor fresh air. My mom could have froze to death inside of her car !! more scary -- we have no idea when it can happen again nor how long the next lockout will last !! clearly this is a safety issue !! especially for a senior citizen person. We are amazed that Buick did not yet issue a recall for this type of incident. I found Buick forums on the internet where hundreds of other people complained of same related problems !! I emailed all 7 websites to bcr. Some people cannot even unlock driver car door to into get into driver's seat !! they have to enter their cars thru passenger & crawl over to passenger car seat or enter from backseat of the car !! obviously Buick & gm never did anything yet about this scary & annoying problem !! on March 16 2018 I opened a new case #8-4000469674 with Buick customer relations (bcr). They flagged this as a safety issue !! bcr said Buick will only work with a Buick car dealer on this issue if my mom brings her car to a Buick car dealer. So we made an appt for this Monday, April 16 8:30am at fox valley Buick (fvb) in st. Charles, IL to get her Buick car diagnosed !! bcr will work with fvb & cem (customer experience manager). Clearly -- this is a very serious safety issue !! in hot heat or winter cold -- a person can literally suffocate or freeze being a trapped prisoner inside of their car !!! 2 bcr reps failed to call me back over 4 days. One bcr rep was supervisor. But I was diligent & I followed up with bcr !!.

I was driving down our local expressway with our children and the tilt steering locking level gave way and my steering wheel became unstable, moving about. Lost control of tilt and telescopic locking on the wheel.

Transmission shifts down by itself when driving or switches gears. Took to rick hendrix Buick in duluth, GA for service and they said nothing was wrong with it. Power shortly afterwards went out and I had to replace the entire power steering system. Also change car battery but it continues to gradually lose power and gives of a type of burning burning smell.

All power features shut down while driving on street. Loss partial control of steering, braking power was reduced significantly and engine shut off completely.
