3 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2000 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 01/03/2017

Leaking oil onto exhaust manifold causing burning smell and smoke which permeates passenger compartment. This car has the 3. 8 series ll engine which has a recall for this problem on the regal but not the Lesabre. This is definitely a problem on the Lesabre too. Why is it not included in the recall? often happens while driving but the last time was when I had just pulled into my driveway and smoke poured out from the hood. Using the recirculating air setting seems to help smoke from entering the cabin. Why is this not included in the factory recall!!.

4 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2002 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 12/28/2016

I have had issues with my vehicle's oil leaking then burning/smoking off my car. This issue is on my engine's manifold & hasn't been recalled even though the same engine is recalled on other gm models. The engine on my Lesabre is the same 3. 8 liter v6 3800 engine that was recalled twice by gm in the past 6 years. My engine had minimal fire in the incidents I experienced but quite a bit of smoke from the area the oil leaks. Once I kill the engine the smoke stops. Gm wants to charge for a diagnostic check & wouldn't recognize the issue on the very same engine, viewing it as just a vehicle not recalled even if it has the same faulty part. It caused my car's catalytic converter to fail as it burned through. A fix is costly, so I went to my own independent mechanic to save myself money since gm does not want to take care of issues that they recalled. Below are the 2 recalls that should apply to my car & also the pontiac bonneville as well since they are both built on the same chassis, premise, & engine as the Oldsmobile intrigue. Both Lesabres & bonnevilles have the 3. 8 v6 naturally aspirated 3800 engine that runs in the recalled intrigue. 6 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2001 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 01/30/2016

Our Buick had been running fine, but went to move it one morning. With a cold engine, as soon as we hit the starter, the engine exploded very loudly and started burning. After the fire was put out, it was determined that the entire intake manifold, along with the fuel lines had exploded in many pieces. From internet research, it was found that the fuel pressure regulator had a recall for vehicle years '98-'00, which these models had the same condition. Had I had the hood open at the time, I'd probably been hurt by flying chunks from the intake manifold. This is a very dangerous condition which could have easily caused bodily harm, even from fire to the passengers inside.

9 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2002 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 02/13/2015

The 2002 Buick Lesabre has the same engine as the 2000 pontiac grand prix, which is covered in the recent recall 15v701. This recall covers oil leaking from the manifold onto the rest of the engine, leading to a risk of fire. The 2002 Buick Lesabre is, however, not officially covered in recall 15v701, even though mine definitely shows all the symptoms of the recall. I have already taken it to the shop once to try to correct the problem. I would like to see the 2002 Buick Lesabre covered under this recall. If not, please outline why. Also, what is the exact fix for the other cars that are covered (because I would like to have that information when I take the car to the shop again to try to correct the issue; I again have oil leaking from the top of the engine)?.

10 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2002 Buick Lesabre

Valve covers are leaking oil right on the exhaust manifold which caused a small fire this engine was recalled in other cars for this problem but not Buick Lesabre.

11 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2001 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 11/07/2014

Engine of my 2001 Buick le sabre, v6, 3800 engine, caught fire after an oil change and short drive home. Authorized mechanic diagnosed it as engine oil leaked out of gasket and on top of exhaust manifold, triggering a fire that quickly melted the plastic wire harness cover and started burning through the wires. I caught the fire early as it was in my driveway and I had a fire extinguisher but fire was spreading quickly. I am unable to afford the repairs.

14 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2003 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 01/06/2014

Intake manifold gaskets (both lower and upper) have failed resulting in coolant loss. Poorly designed plastic gaskets are no longer used but this should be a recall as it results in safety issue if coolant is completely depleted on the highway resulting in failure of vehicle to drive due to engine failure.

16 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2003 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 10/15/2012

When the Lesabre was reliable; it was reliable. However, when issues started to occur, they were massive. At approx 90k miles the transmission went with no warming and was instantly. After that the car still had issues with the drive, transmission and gears. The fuel pump and intake manifolds have been replaced. As of 2014 I continue to have issues with this vehicle. It currently runs very hard and when idle and in traffic (very scary) will randomly cut off with zero warning or even begin to smoke. There is the correct amount of oil and antifreeze. The car will randomly smoke as well. I have been to the mechanic several times trying to figure out the main issue so that it can be repaired. This is extremely frustrating. Anyone have any solutions? I keep reading plenty of owners with the same issue(s) so I find it hard to believe that gm/Buick has not done a recall on parts for the engine, transmission, etc.

17 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1998 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 10/07/2012

The vehicle acted like it had a miss, the service engine light came on, flashing, then stopped flashing but remained on. I drove vehicle home, and the next morning it would not start. I had it towed to a shop and the mechanic said that it had hydro locked due to coolant dripping on the piston from a coolant leak at the intake manifold. This is not a cheap repair.

18 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2002 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 01/03/2012

Noticed lots of white smoke coming out tail pipe while driving. Very unusual. Car then stopped on freeway. Had to get pushed by another car to side if freeway. Towed car home to driveway. Tried to crank egine and heard real loud pop coming from under hood. Car did not turn on. Tried to start 5 more times but each time it just sounded like a real short crank type sound like as if engine is having a hard time turning. After fifth time, engine started and this time the smoke coming out tail pipe was white/blueish and lots of it. Engine stopped. Also noticed that all the coolant was gone from coolant container and there is a high burning smell of coolant coming from engine. This might be a cracked upper intake or lower intake. These are made of real cheap hard plastic which could be the primary reason of engine failure. Car is now parked in my backyard.

21 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2001 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 12/03/2010

In December 2010 I had my 2001 Buick Lesabre repaired at schepel Buick in merrillville, indiana. They replaced the intake manifold gaskets and the thermostat because of the coolant leaking. I just found out the gm knew of this problem with the dex coolant for a long time and didn't let anyone know. I called the service manager a schepel bill and talked to him and he said that he never heard of this and neither did gm. Its all over the internet. He lied to me. He told me not to believe what the internet says. I am out $779. 45 for something that they should have paid for. The never had a recall because they wanted to keep it quite. I just don't think that they should get away with keeping it quite when someone could get hurt and to avoid paying for their mistake.

Owner purchased a 2004 Buick Lesabre, VIN [xxx] (?Buick?), which was manufactured by general motors. On October 14, 2010, owner drove the Buick from the grocery store, returned to her home, and parked the Buick in the attached garage of her home and proceeded to retrieve her groceries from the trunk of the Buick. After she retrieved her groceries from the trunk of the Buick, owner noticed a fire at the front of the Buick. The fire spread from the Buick to the owner's home, and it caused extensive damage to the Buick and to the home. The fire originated from the engine compartment of the Buick. On March 12, 2008, general motors issued a recall, identified by NHTSA campaign id number 08v118000, in response to the potential for an engine compartment fire to occur in 207,542 automobiles manufactured by general motors from 1997 to 2003 and contained a 3. 8l engine (?2008 recall?). Owner's Buick was not included in the 2008 recall. On April 21, 2009, general motors issued another recall, identified by NHTSA campaign id number 09v116000, in response to the potential of engine compartment fires in 1,497,516 automobiles manufactured by general motors from 1997 to 2003 (?2009 recall?). Owner?s Buick was not included in the 2009 recall. A defective rocker cover gasket in the Buick allowed engine oil to leak onto the exhaust manifold, and the heat of the exhaust manifold was sufficient to ignite the oil and cause the fire. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

25 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2000 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 03/09/2010

I need to report my 2000 Buick Lesabre, apparently has and oil leak. While driving, you can smell oil leaking on the exhaust pipes/manifold system. I read where some engines with the 3. 8l engines: chevy's, pontiac's, Buick regal's are being recalled for oil leaking from valve cover gaskets (when hard braking is applied) on to the exhaust system parts and could cause a fire, in the engine compartment. . I am experiencing the same problem on my 2000 Buick Lesabre. With the 3. 8l engine. I would like for this to be investigated on these model Buick's 2000 - 2005, for oil leaking onto exhaust system. They should be included as well.
