Vehicle Shudder Problems of Buick Lesabre

The contact owns a 2003 Buick Lesabre. The contact stated that the transmission feels as if it is slipping when changing from first to second gear. He feels a shudder when the vehicle accelerates. (1) started as intermittent problem when engine was cold and car was stationary - stepping on accelerator resulted in no motion followed by car lurching/jerking into first gear; the problem became more repeatable over a three year time period; just prior to failure, the car would shake and make noise when accelerating from a stop and when coming to a stop; at failure, the car would not move (forward or in reverse) (2) complete failure of automatic transmission - surprising because auto only had 22,300 miles on it when the transmission failed (3) replaced transmission.

I had a previous transmission failure on this car in 1996, after about 12,000 miles. Transmission was replaced under warranty. Current failure occured as I was starting to go up a steep grade. Car shuddered, and engine reved without any increase in speed. There was loss of drive connection between engine and wheels. I downshifted to lower gear manually, and managed to keep car moving forward. After reaching top of grade, I resumed driving in high gear. As I would start on slight upgrades, or try to accelerate speed, engine would rev temporarily without acceleration of car. After stopping on side of road to check transmission fluid, I resumed tranvel. Problem seemed to resolve itself, although there was some "hunting" of the transmission as it upshifted gears. When I returned to home area, I took car into dealership to have problem diagnosed. I have been informed that transmission has failed, planetary gear has broken off and "ground up" transmission. Need to replace transmission. This is second failure of transmission on this vehicle,.

Vehicle jumps and vibrates when driving. Consumer took vehicle to a private mechanic, and he informed consumer that the transmission was shot.

Vehicle makes a loud grinding noise when shifting into reverse. Took vehicle to dealer, and the dealer discovered metal debris in transmission pan. Dealer cleaned parts, replaced sun gear and carriers. Reconditioned transmission completely.
