I first noticed the problem with the speedometer a couple of years ago, in 2009. The weather was cold, and I attributed it's disfunction to the cold. Then the other gauges started to show malfunction. When it got to the point that none of the gauges were correct, I went to two gm dealers and received no concern from either of them. They did not even acknowledge that they knew of a problem. I had to pay $400 to replace the dash cluster. About this time I received a letter from Chevrolet regarding the relay resistor or wiring connector on my silverado, saying they could overheat and the hvac blower might not function. I was given 10 years from date of purchase or 150,000 miles, whichever occurred first, to have this corrected if necessary. I called gm and asked why they would extend the warranty on the truck but would not even acknowledge the problem with the Buick. Again, no concern was shown. The person I spoke to was in the philippines! why would she care? we're askedto buy american, but we have to talk to someone in the philippines when there's a problem! also, I've had nothing but problems with the lights, all of them, inside and out. Couldn't tell you how many I've had to change! at the present time, we have no radio and heater lights. Goodbye gm, hello Honda!.

In Dec 2010 I turned on my rear window defroster on my 1999 Buick Lesabre. It did not work. After checking repair options in the auto manuals and on line, I still could not get it working. When my son came in for the holidays, we decided to check the wires at the rear window. We discovered a square unit attached to the body under the roof panel. This unit had an entry plug which was burned and an outlet plug leading to the grids on the rear window. It also had the radio antenna leading into it. The unit and the entry plug were burned. My wife and I both smelled something like a electrical at one time but did not know where it came from. What I am asking is that: could this unit cause a fire or be subject to a recall? I know it is in other gm cars as well as our Buick. The part in question is gm 25623688. I have since replaced my unit and repaired the wiring. Thank you for your consideration!.

The event leading to the incident involved turning on the rear defroster. After turning on the rear defroster I smelt smoke and burnt electronics. The rear window would not defrost. I turned the car off and pulled off the panel near the wire running to the rear windshield and discovered the "power radio amplifier" had melted and caught fire, resulting in burns to the panel and complete loss of radio and rear defroster. This of course made it impossible to defrost the rear windshield. A replacement part was bought and installed by myself (the wiring harnesses and cables needed to be repaired due to severe burning as well). I still own the old burnt part.
Consumer owns a 1997 Buick Lesabre. Consumer was driving when vehicle shut off. She was able to coast a little but not enough to get completely out of traffic. She was stuck in vehicle because everything on vehicle shut down due to the ground cable coming loose, not loose from the motor block. Vehicle has been worked on, she did no feel that cable coming loose was due to a defect. She was more concerned that when vehicle lost power she was stuck in vehicle with no way to escape. The door locked and power windows did not work. The biggest concern was that there was no manual lock that could be used to unlock the door when power failed. She was stuck in vehicle with vehicle in the road and in danger of oncoming traffic. She stayed in vehicle one hour on a very hot day until she was able to contact a friend on cell phone, and he came to help her.

The vehicle is experiencing problems with the power windows on the front driver's side and the front passenger's side intermittently shorting out. Consumer is unable to wind the side windows up or down when needed. Also consumer smelled electrical wiring burning when using the window switches. Dealer was notified, and informed consumer that the vehicle was not covered under a recall.
Operating mechanisms on the rear window broke causing the window to go down and stay down. We had to replace the whole mechanism. A few months later the other rear window did the same thing. I think the cables are defective. Is there a recall on the mechanisms? we also had to replace an idler pulley after 40,000 miles.
