Electrical System Problems of Buick Lesabre - part 1

The backup camera will stay in 'night' brightness mode for 15 seconds while backing out of the garage into daylight. This makes the video screen usless until the 15 second delay is over. I have asked several times at the dealership since I purchased this vehicle new, and they say nothing can be done. Not only is this a huge safety issue but it also is an enviromental issue as may times I must wait in the driveway with the car needlessly idling until the 15 seconds is up. This is seems to be a simple software update to remove the delay when the car is in reverse.

I had problem with windows not rolling up and down. After I took my Buick to pep boys 3325 124th Ave NW coon rapids mn electric mechanic found out that my window power switch is damaged after rain storm. Later I experienced the following problems with vehicle: 1 strange engine noise while running 2 pushing forward once release foot from brake. Pep boys mechanic looked at all these problems and told me everything looks ok but I need to get engine diagnostic done with pep boys. I got schedule for that. Meanwhile I ended up in car traffic problem because of fire of my vehicle.

First electrical. . . My wipers stopped working during bad rain right after coming out the tunnel in heavy traffic no accident I knew road enough to pull over. . Got fixed replaced wiper motor 3 times and the wiper switch wipers still go without being turned on. . . Then my dash keeps getting dim and my abs,traction ,and brake lightsare on and I've had that fixed still keeps staying lit. . . . I get regular oil changes at walmart every 3000 miles theres fluid leaking from valve cover that I had replaced . . . Things I replaced on car should have never been inspected. . My dash was lifted when I purchased vehicle used also said it was fine mva made them reinspect car n its still lifted I also know it wont pass inspection lifted.

I have had issues with my vehicle's oil leaking then burning/smoking off my car. This issue is on my engine's manifold & hasn't been recalled even though the same engine is recalled on other gm models. The engine on my Lesabre is the same 3. 8 liter v6 3800 engine that was recalled twice by gm in the past 6 years. My engine had minimal fire in the incidents I experienced but quite a bit of smoke from the area the oil leaks. Once I kill the engine the smoke stops. Gm wants to charge for a diagnostic check & wouldn't recognize the issue on the very same engine, viewing it as just a vehicle not recalled even if it has the same faulty part. It caused my car's catalytic converter to fail as it burned through. A fix is costly, so I went to my own independent mechanic to save myself money since gm does not want to take care of issues that they recalled. Below are the 2 recalls that should apply to my car & also the pontiac bonneville as well since they are both built on the same chassis, premise, & engine as the Oldsmobile intrigue. Both Lesabres & bonnevilles have the 3. 8 v6 naturally aspirated 3800 engine that runs in the recalled intrigue. There was a clicking sound on the right passenger side for about 30 seconds coming down my driveway and then it stopped. I thought maybe a small tree branch got stuck in my wheel well, so I continued onto the highway and drove about 6 miles and stopped at an animal shelter. White smoke started to come from under the car so I popped the hood and got out just as black smoke started and as was going to open the hood the flames were coming out from under the hood and someone used two fire extinguishers and then two water hoses to put out the fire. The car is a total loss and I don't understand what happened, because it was in excellent condition. Someone at the scene thought it was an electrical problem. The car had been in excellent condition and very clean under the hood. And I had it serviced regularly.

While driving home my fuel gauge stopped working. When I got home I turned the car off and then back on and the fuel gauge was now in the 6 position on a clock. Now I have no idea if there is any fuel in the car or not. Luckily I reset the trip meter with every fuel up so I know I can go approximately 300 miles. Although in the winter when we have to idle our car so the fuel mileage goes down and I do not get as many miles on a tank. Hope I don't run out of fuel during the winter. In reading online reviews about this issue it turns out it can get worse and cause the speedometer to stop working. Then I may be speeding and not even know it. I did try and have it fixed but the guy charged me $207 and it did not fix the problem. At the local gm dealership they said they would repair it for $350.

Driving home from work during my 20 minute commute during the winter, I had the seat heater on in the drivers seat. It felt unusually warm but I was extremely cold and left it on. As I was getting out of the car my husband asked "what's that smell"? he looked at the seat and there was a quarter size singe hole where the heater coil burned through the leather, he then turned me around and looked at the back of my wool coat- there was a corresponding hole in the new wool coat that I had just bought. I am asking for the replacement for the coat- $180.

We bought the car December 29,2015, the car had 102,0215, and drove it to the doctor on our way back, the would make a "clunking" sound from trans-axles, and we notice that the dash board came up and it has hardware screws across the dash as if to hold it down.

Had to remove dome light bulbs beause it doesnt turn off, the lights on the rear st times and I'v just bought a second battery 3 days ago because the lighting problem caues them to burn out. Sometimes the lights will fade out. Mst time it doesnt and I can't turn them off manually either. Just found out about the recalls on this vehicle.

At 68,000 miles and in the month of July 2014 my Buick Lesabre speedometer and tachometer stopped working. . . . The hands do not move at all. . . . . I do not know how fast I am driving which is dangerous and can cause death. . . . This is a number one complaint of this car and it should be recalled before im dead! I cannot afford the repairs because I am on disability. . . . This is an urgent matter that need to be taken care of immediately!.

The key comes out of the ignition cylinder lock. I have had my key replaced twice. The security light comes on and the car dash says unknown driver. Even though I have had the keys replaced which, when aaa had a locksmith come out to make me a key, the technician says that the cylinder lock had been filed down. With this possibly being the issue it is very dangerous for me and 8 year old daughter. The key should never come out of the cylinder lock and now my mechanic is talking like this has likely caused problems for the bcm. I am needing some assistance in this matter. The car starts when it wants to and if it doesn't start it takes a couple of days then resets. This is a big headache when this is the only transportation I have to get to work and take my daughter to school.

Starting early June my son called me to inform me that the Buick was stalling out on him all the time. He said that he could be driving at any speed and the car would just shut off, causing all electrical, steering, and brakes to not work. He attends school in western pennsylvania in the mountains and this worried me. I had the vehicle serviced and each time was diagnosed with different things and nothing fixed the problem. I have since switched vehicles with him for his safety and have contacted my local Buick dealership to find that the ignition cylinder is the cause of the failure that the ignition cylinder is periodically loosing connection to the key which has a chip in it (quits talking to), and shuts the vehicle off. Like an alarm feature. The dealership informed me that this has been an on going problem with the Lesabre and other vehicles for quite a while. In order to fix it I will have to purchase a new ignition cylinder, possibly a couple of keys, have them sent to a locksmith, get them keyed to the cylinder, then install the new ignition cylinder. Yet it is not one of the vehicles listed on the gm ignition recall list. How can such a safety issue go overlooked and also unreported. The vehicle is an excellent vehicle while running but I feel that gm should face the fact and take ownership for all of these ignition failures not just a few makes and models but all gm manufactured vehicles. This is an extreme safety issue, my son said he was nearly rearended when the vehicle shut off on him a number of times at different speeds while trying to pull off the road for safety. Or he was stuck holding up the flow of traffic with people beeping at him while he had to wait in the middle of the road till the car would start again. Pretty scary!!! thank you,! and please look out for the little guy and hold gm responsible.

Accident may, 27, 2014, ncic 9245, officer id 17604 the above accident was caused by a mechanical failure of the Buick le sabre, 1999, license # 4efd440. Not driver error. Leaving highway 193 turning onto hwy 49, (going toward auburn) being a 2 lane narrow winding road, the engine of the above vehicle died, locked up the steering, and had no brakes. I was unable to stop or control the car. This was the first time there was a loss of brakes. In trying to control the car it caused me to veer off the road to the right hand side. Upon leaving the road and crashing the air bags did not deploy. The vehicle has had this problem before verified by witnesses with the exception of the loss of brakes. While driving approximately 45 mph, speedometer would increase to as high as 90 mph with no increase from driver. This has been repeated several times over last year of operation. Also gas gauge info has maxed or bottomed out. I can fix this problem by removing and reinstalling the instrument panel fuse under the back seat. When this is done you can hear something under the instrument panel reset. Depending on the local temperature I might be able to go up to 3 months before having to repeat this sequence. Now the a/c is putting out cool air on the passenger side vents only.

The gauges in the instrument panel stop working. The speedometer has stopped working I am driving a vehicle and not know how fast I am driving. The gas gauge has stop working I don't know how much gas is in my car I have to fill the tank and check it every two weeks so I will not run out of gas.

While merging onto i95 north my car shut completely off in the middle of moving traffic. I didn't even realize it was off until my little girl asked me to turn the radio back and my speed begin to decrease. It's very difficult to steer such a huge tank like my Lesabre when the power steering gives. It cranks right up after shutting off as if nothing is even wrong, but this has happened always in stop and go traffic. It bothers me because my car is all I have and it's the only transportation that I have for traveling with my little girl.

The dash board is seperating at the seams all the way to the air bags. It may lead to possible air bag deployement on passenger side. Please fix this could lead to a very serious accident I communte on a daily basis with my two son 6 and 10. Please do a recall on this vehicle someone could be serious injured please help!.

Traveling about 65 - 70 mph I noticed my speedometer went 'wacky', meaning it went down to 0 - 20 mph and back up again to the speed I was traveling. Nothing else happened. The next time, maybe a week to a couple weeks later it did I it again, only I heard the doors unlock and it had died. Since then it has been happening more frequently. I have always been able to start it right back up. I can be out on the highway or in town. I usually put it into neutral, start it and keep going. It has happened as many times as 3 times a day, or it won't die for 3-4 days. I did have one especially dangerous situation with a semi-trailer truck behind me on the highway when the vehicle just died.
