37 Electrical System problem of the 2004 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 08/15/2013

While driving my recently purchased 2004 Buick Lesabre limited at 60 mph, my speedometer suddenly went to 95 mph and tachometer went to 1500 and will not move. . Even when vehicle is turned off the speedometer and tachometer stays at 95 mph and 1500 rpm respectively. Did a little research and discovered a major problem with clusters and stepper motors. My car has less than 80k miles, but I have read where this problem has occured at as little as 20k miles. Completely unfair that gm makes you rely on heads up display for a speed. . Very unsafe I feel because this draws your eyes from road constantly.

38 Electrical System problem of the 2005 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 05/05/2013

Started out as a headlamp that we thought was burned out. Replaced the bulb and it worked for a day or two. Next the gas gauge, speedometer, heat and cooling gauge and now both headlamps do not work. My husband has to drive in the dark with brights on because there are absolutely no headlights . This is a serious safety issue and gm should be issuing a recall. This is extremely dangerous and we cannot drive our vehicle at night unless we use our brights the whole time which then becomes a safety issue to other drivers. This is as serious as seat belts failing or windshield wipers out of whack. Please respond to this with quick and serious measures.

40 Electrical System problem of the 2005 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 11/30/2012

Speedometer is inaccurate and very sporadic. Speedometer needle gets stuck on any number when vehicle is completely stopped and/or turned off. Most of the time have to guess how fast or slow the vehicle is actually going. This is a safety hazard. After reading about the same type of complaints from other consumers, I think it's about time gm fixes this problem by initiating a formal recall. My grandparents swore by Buick and gm vehicles. I absolutely have my doubts now. If problem is never recalled, I will never purchase a Buick or any other gm vehicle in the future. It is not right for this to be ignored with as many common complaints that are filed.

41 Electrical System problem of the 2005 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 11/15/2012

Originally when the issue happened at random times with the speedometer readingin inaccurately. Now it has fallen to the 6 o'clock position and never moves from that position. I have never had it repaired was told by dealers that the part was the instument cluster and it would need to be replaced. Issue started at around 86000 miles (random readings) around 91000 speedometer (fallen to 6 o' clock position.

42 Electrical System problem of the 2005 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 07/10/2012

The contact owns a 2005 Buick Lesabre. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, smoke was emitting from under the rear seat. The contact was able to pull over to further assess the failure. The contact diagnosed that the electrical chords were overheated and the medal had become unbearably hot. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repairs. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The failure and the current mileage was 123,000.

43 Electrical System problem of the 2004 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 06/14/2012

At approximitly 80,000 miles my fuel gage stopped working. It will either say full or empty no inbetween. It is not accurate nor is the low fuel light. To get it fixed I had it estimated at around $600. . . . . Just another reason not to buy a american made vehicle.

44 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

Dashboard top is separating and buckling in area between steering wheel and windshield. It started slowly when I first purchased the car and has progressively gotten worse with time. While researching the problem, I found this to be a common issue. I'm worried that as the dashboard separation gets worse, it will affect the passenger air bag and/or vehicle electronics in the dashboard area leading to an accident.

45 Electrical System problem of the 2002 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 03/15/2012

This I have found out online is a common problem, when I purchased my car I had a few windows suddenly drop on me & I figured out the window motors in 2 were broken, however when they dropped I also found out electrical systems in my door were damaged from the window motor failure, so now on my driver's side door I have no mirror adjustment, no unlock/lock button for safety in dangerous areas I drive, some windows (had all 4 motors replaced at the same time) work & some don't from certain areas, I even found after I used my right rear window motor, the trunk popped open! so to fix the problem I personally had to disconnect the new window motor as well as the trunk. Also for comfort in heat my heated seat doesn't work from my driver door. My car runs perfect but this shouldn't have happened. This should have been recalled for owners long ago for 2000-2005 Buick Lesabres.

46 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 06/07/2011

Passenger window would not go up July 2011. One week later left rear passenger window would not function. February 2012 right rear window failed. April 2012 left rear window would not go down. Fortunately, it was under warranty. So far, the windows have cost me $735. 00 in less than a year. Catalytic converter rattles a lot in morning when car is cold. Only a matter of time before it will need to be replaced. Was told by aamco can be replaced at Buick's expense, but have not been able to confirm this.

47 Electrical System problem of the 1997 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

I own a 1997 Buick le sabre custom (3. 8) the car will shutdown when I am driving it. Also it drains the battery. The date is the year that I purchased the car.

48 Electrical System problem of the 2004 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

I purchased my 2004 Lesabre in 2005. Approximately 3 years ago, the speedometer would register 120 when I was moving or when the car was stopped or parked. I spoke to my mechanic and he told me that it was an expensive repair. I am a very conservative driver but am very concerned about the speedometer and the gas gauge not functioning. I have a debilitating disease and cannot even pump my own gas. What would happen if I had to try and walk to a gas station. I do not understand why this is not a recall!! how many complaints does it take?? I love my car but may have to spend a lot of money to fix a problem that is gm's responsibility. I am shocked at the amount of complaints about this very problem. I am also sure that there are many more not reported. Please do something!!.

49 Electrical System problem of the 2004 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 02/23/2011

The tachometer and temperature gauges on my 2004 Buick Lesabre have failed. The needles have become stuck in the red zones of their respective gauges. This began approximately one year ago when my car had less than 50,000 miles on it. The speedometer has recently shown signs of sporadic sticking, so I cannot be certain my vehicle is traveling at the correct speed. Based on similar postings on this site as well as numerous internet sites, it is obvious that a manufacturer defect exists, therefore Buick should be ordered to make necessary repairs at their cost. A Buick dealer told me this would cost over $300 to repair.

50 Electrical System problem of the 2005 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 02/10/2011

The speedometer would show lower speed than I was going, then it would not work at all. The temp. Gage would go past hot, then peg out. Replaced vehicle speed sensor did not fix. Replaced temp. Sensor did not fix.

51 Electrical System problem of the 2004 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 01/05/2011

My 2004 Buick Lesabre started having speedometer trouble in Jan. 2011. It started showing the car going slower then it actually is. It doesn't do it right away but after awhile on a long drive. It gets worse the longer you drive it. It can show it going up to 30 mph slower then it is. Also the gas gauge started fluctuating and being eratick and now also the engine temperture gauge also shows running hot when it is not. The car presently has less then 25,000 miles since new. How safe can this be when you can't trust the speedomter. Going too fast or too slow? always unsure, always looking at the gauges? second guessing your driving decisions! the gas gauge and temperature gauge give a differnt reading each time you drive it. Nothing has been done as of yet. I will be stopping at the racine, WI. Buick dealer where it was purchased new to see if they will warranty the problem this coming week 6/22/2011.

52 Electrical System problem of the 2004 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

My 2004 Buick Lesabre with 58500 miles is showing initial signs of failure of the instrument cluster. This has started with the tachometer failing to register correctly and the fuel gauge pegging beyond the full position. I understand that the next component failure will likely be the speedometer. Should this occur, the vehicle will not be safe to operate. This electrical system problem represents another serious safety design flaw by general motors that must be corrected by gm before it contributes to an accident. Consumers should not have to incur charges to have this obvious problem corrected. The NHTSA should issue a product recall and hold gm responsible for correcting this problem at gm's expense.

53 Electrical System problem of the 2004 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 05/12/2010

I bought this car may 2010 from gregory automotive group in new castle DE. I immediately had a propblem with the speedometer the day I bought it, took it back to the dealership and was told that it wasnt a big deal, this problem was covered by by warranty and I would just need to pay a $100. 00 deductible. I took it to my local Buick dealership and they told me that it isn't covered under the warranty I bought from the dealer and I would have to pay out of pocket for the repairs. My next issue is the gas gauge started to mess up; wrong readings and gas levels left me out of gas and very upset. I will be taking this back to Buick to see if I am at all eligible to recieve recall benefits or something because the amount to fix these issues are greater than I can afford within the year and some change of owning the veh. And I also want to say I did research and do a carfax on the car and it came back with accurate mileage, one owner and no accidents and I jumped on it, only to have a nice car without a working speedometer and gas gauge. I thought Buicks were good solid cars. . . . . .

54 Electrical System problem of the 2004 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 03/13/2010

As we were traveling down a back road at about 35mph, I noticed that my dash speedometer was reading 85mph. It seemed like the gauge would go up, but would not come back down. Luckily, I have a heads-up display that has always shown the correct speed. Later, most of the rest of my dash gauges began randomly doing the same thing -- they'd go up, but not come back down. The only gauge that seemed unaffected was my fuel gauge -- until last week. It, too, is doing the same thing. I'm seeing lots of web ads to fix this problem, which means that many people are having this same problem. This can be dangerous, since, if I run out of gas on a major road during icy weather (which we have much of the year here in wisconsin), it could cause a major accident. If that many people are having the same problem, it's not a random chance failure -- it's a defect in design, materials or "workmanship" (which includes automated processes). Please address this problem!.

55 Electrical System problem of the 2004 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 12/29/2009

Speedometer stops working on my 2004 Buick. It can stop at any given time an can cause speeding by not knowing how fast I am running. Also speeding is the number one cause of deaths.

56 Electrical System problem of the 2000 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 11/13/2009

I have a 2000 Buick Lesabre that dies at random driving down road, sitting at traffic light, basically when ever it feels like.

57 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 11/01/2009

2007 the right rear passenger window kept on going down on its own. Had a mechanic rip out floor board and found a defective electrical harness, wire exposed causing ground out. He learned this from a gm mechanic who said it was a know issue. Problem was fixed. 2009 now the same window went down. All windows except drivers will not function, automatic door locks will not work, and when I drive at nite I can see the lights on the passenger side door flicker on for about 10 seconds, again another electrical issue?.

58 Electrical System problem of the 2004 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 06/07/2009

The contact owns a 2004 Buick Lesabre. The contact stated that the fuel gauge and the speedometer failed. The fuel level gauge would constantly display an empty reading. The dealer was contacted and they advised him that he needed to replace the entire instrumental panel. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

59 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 03/31/2009

All 4 windows have failed. One of them twice! my dashboard is separating exactly the same way many others have described theirs. I initially had major battery issues (battery is located under back seat on driver's side - how weird is that?). I would drive my car to the store, come out, and it would not start. One time, I opened the trunk to get my jumper cables and when I slammed the trunk lid, the radio came on! then, of course, the car started just fine. After owning this possessed car with major reliability issues for several months, we found an electrical mechanic who discovered a lose wire in the manufacturers electrical work which was somehow connected to the battery. My gas gauge hasn't worked in years. I am always at 3/4 to a full tank. This is otherwise a great car, but I am seriously disappointed that Buick will not stand behind some of these repeat problems, especially the electric motors for the windows and that horrible plastic part that continues to break. Somebody from Buick should read these complaints and do something.

60 Electrical System problem of the 2003 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 03/02/2009

Small lights burn out excessively and cost a fortune to have replaced. Examples steering wheel button lights, climate control, radio buttons (which cannot be replaced). Replaced multiple times and I have only had the car 4 years.

61 Electrical System problem of the 2004 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 02/01/2009

Speedometer and gas gauge stopped working at 32,000. Speedometer works sometimes. Gas gauge registers passed full , and in the 7 o'clock position. I need to keep track of my mileage per tank full at - to not go beyond 300 mile range before I need to fill up the tank.

62 Electrical System problem of the 2004 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 12/01/2008

The contact owns a 2004 Buick Lesabre. While driving at an unknown speed, the contact noticed that the speedometer was inoperative. She was unable to determine the exact speed that she was traveling. She took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the speedometer needed to be replaced at the cost of $500. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 30,000.

63 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 11/09/2008

I bought my 2001 Lesabre new and have had an issue with the heat in the radio and cruise controls and system both in the dash and on the steering wheel. It has always been excessively hot. When I asked about this heat in the controls at the dealership, I was simply informed that nothing could be done. It has been this way every day. The dealer did replace the steering wheel cruise control button; but, that did not eliminate the heat.

64 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 10/07/2008

Just purchased this vehicle in florida and drove it back to massachusetts. While tuning in the radio, I noticed that the radio/cassette area was "hot", very hot. . . . I shut the radio off and continued to monitor the radio section by feeling it. It stayed hot! the radio components on the steering wheel was also hot but not as bad as the radio section itself. What could be wrong with this? I have been checking the Buick Lesabre recalls but have not found any. Certainly this problem is not ok. I have never felt any radio in any car "hot" - and I really mean "hot". I will be taking this car immediately to a Buick dealer. Please let me know if you have any information on this. This is a Buick Lesabre - 2001 with 25000 miles. The older couple that owned it rarely used it and probably never used the radio therefore never noticed the problem. Thank you.

65 Electrical System problem of the 2003 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 08/16/2008

I was driving and proceeded to slow down as I did I heard a loud noise I continued driving about 3 miles when I smelled something burning. I stopped for a red light and noticed smoke coming from underneath the hood on the driver side. I pulled into a parking lot where the car proceeded to ignite on fire and burned before the fire department got there. I had no previous problems with car before this incident.

66 Electrical System problem of the 2002 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 02/24/2008

The contact owns a 2002 Buick Lesabre. The contact stated that the instrument control panel has separated into two parts. The failure originally began near the driver's side and currently extends 20 inches to the passenger side of the panel. The dealer stated that the failure could be repaired, but they could not identify the cause of the failure. The manufacturer did not provide any assistance and the vehicle has not been repaired. The contact has pictures of the failed component. The failure mileage was 69,000 and current mileage was 71,400.

67 Electrical System problem of the 2000 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 02/01/2007

Pressed power window switch to lower window and glass fell into door cavity. Switch became inactive. Glass would not move.

68 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 11/01/2006

Window motors on all four doors have quit working over the past 3 years. We have three replaced and now two more are broken for a grand total of five window motors. Local dealer has become useless on this matter and neither gm nor the Buick division have responded to multiple inquiries. We have always tried to support american made products, especially gm. The percived "we don't care" attitude has definately changed our thought process about our future vehicle purchases.

69 Electrical System problem of the 2003 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 09/27/2006

Small lights burn out excessively and cost a fortune to have replaced. Examples steering wheel button lights, climate control id (green) lights, tail lights on trunk lid.

70 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Buick Lesabre

Failure Date: 05/01/2006

I have had to replace all four power window motors, the dash is coming apart and is raised blocking some visibility and potentially affecting the air bag deployment in an accident. In addition, it seems to me that braking vibration / pulsation has been a problem on all five of my Buick Lesabres.
