Wheel Problems of Buick Lucerne - part 1

Left front tire low air pressure. Went to get problem corrected. Repair technician reported the air was leaking around the valve stem. Technician dismounted the tire from the rim and discovered that the chrome plating on the rim was flaking off and had a gap between the rim and the valve stem allowing air to leak from the tire. Options were to either re-chrome the rim or purchase replacement rim. Also, tire needed replacement due to being run underinflated. Result: purchased 4 new rims (not chrome plated) and a new tire. Total cost $ 700+.

My tires keep leaking air. I was informed it was my rims are flaking causing razor cuts in my tires. About 2 weeks ago the front right tire started leaking, then a week ago the left one started leaking and a day or two after that the rear passenger tire is now leaking also.

2006 Buick Lucerne chrome wheels failure. I started to experience flat tires constantly. Took the car in to a tire shop, I was told that the chrome wheels are corroded to the point that they will not seal probably. I informed gm about the issue. I was told that the car was not under warranty and gm would not replace the wheels. The last time I drove the car the front passenger tire deflated causing me to loose control which resulted with me going in the medium. The car has not been driven since. The mileage is 80,000. There needs to be a safety recall done on the chrome rims. Gm knows that this a problem and will not solve the issue.

Vehicle has numerous issues over the years. 80k miles currently, tires leak air because of corrosion on the rims, this is my 2nd set of tires not counting the set the vehicle came with, breaks have been done twice, rotors have been replaced, both front door handles have come off, problems with the leveler, now door locks lock/unlock while driving but not just once (might happen 6-8 times). Local dealer & service station have performed repairs/replacements. Already been under 2 recalls.

I own a 2006 Buick Lucerne. I took on 6-11-16 to dealer had my tires replaced. Ever sense all four new tires are losing air. Tire pressure light comes on all the time. The chrome plating is flaking off the rims,losing the seal. Dealer has resealded the four twice since 6-11-16 only 51,000 miles on this car. 2016 is the first the tire pressure light has ever come on. Corrosin is a problem but the batch bucik used in 2006 was faulty.

This vehicle has defective chrome peeling wheels and has a track record of this reported all over the internet. Not only is it a defect but a safety issue as the chrome flaking off cuts like a razor as I found out my self cleaning the vehicle.

Chrome wheels become defective when chrome starts to flake causing tire not be be selaed properly with rim causing tire pressure to leak and tire to go flat if not reinflated . I have nevr ad this problem with any other car ive owned and feel m should replace as they are defective.

Manufacture's supplied chrome wheels have defective chrome plating allowing the chrome to flake off breaking the seal with the tire resulting in the tire losing air pressure and subsequent drive-ability problem.

Chrome is peeling off the wheels and causing failure to my tires. . . . Have a long record of repairs with the gm dealer where I bought my car for these repairs to keep the air in my tires. Need new tires and im afraid to invest $700 in tires because of this issue????.

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Buick Lucerne. The contact stated that while traveling 55 mph the tire pressure warning light illuminated on the dash. The tire pressure decreased in the tires. The failure has occurred on 8 different occasions. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no remedy. The vehicle was diagnosed as a deteriorated beads on the rim. The failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 60,300.

I had to take the car to a gas station in the area because my tires were going flat constantly. I was continually putting air in the tires. I would lose 10 to 15 lbs of air per day! after talking to the mechanic, he told me that the bad rim was the problem. These rims were no good and a problem that is dangerous! I was told at that time that this was a constant problem with the chrome wheels. I had gone into a ditch last year because of the loss of air in a rear tire and had another car been coming at the time, I may have been killed. I just now replaced all four tires at the Buick dealership here, brenengen auto, with new tires which match the original tires for this car. They found "heavy corrosion on the left rear rim" and they recommended replacing the rims to fix this problem. The cost of new rims is prohibitive! the tire to road is the most dangerous thing to go wrong!. I strongly demand you investigate these poorly made rims and declare a recall before someone is killed!.

The vehicle hydro-planed three times, swerved off the road and then crashed into a tree. There were no injuries. A police report was filed of the incident. The air bags failed to deploy with the force of the impact. The vehicle was towed to an independent auto facility temporarily. The vehicle had been previously diagnosed by an independent tire center that the entire frame was corroded. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 168,000.

Problems with keeping tire pressure at proper level. Lately has gotten worse. Losing up to 10lbs over the period of a week in one of the tires. Two other tires leak slowly. After reading the other complaints on this site, I will certainly be elevating this with the dealer I bought the car from to see what can be done. Poor construction of wheels causing dropping pressure in tires is a serious problem.

Owner put new goodyear assurance tires on the vehicle on 12/31/10 at a goodyear dealership. In spring 2013 all four tires started losing air, and the low tire pressure light on the dash illuminated. The owner brought the car back to the goodyear dealer, who stated that the tires are fine, but that the oem chrome wheels are degrading, causing small gaps for the air to leak out. Now in summer 2013 the air leaks out so quickly that the low tire pressure lights come on in less than one week after a complete refilling. The goodyear dealer states that the only way to fix this problem will be to replace the wheels.

The wiper pump stopped working out of no where and the tires keep losing air in them.

I wish to file a complaint regarding the flaking of the chrome rims on our 2007 Buick Lucerne cxl. I think it is a safety issue since the tire pressure drops. When I purchased the tires in may, 2013, at flynn tire in pittsburgh, it was pointed out that the chrome clad finish was coming off the rims, and they even had trouble balancing the new tires. My tire pressure drops so I have to put air in the tires every 3 to 4 days. We have only owned the car since January, 2012. It was purchased at colussey Chevrolet in bridgeville. It was a certified vehicle so I feel they should have checked it out and realized the wheels were starting to flake. I spoke to gm rep. At 1-866-790-5700, ext. 21733 in August, 2013, and was assigned gm file no. 71-1235298454. She spoke to the service mgr. At colussey, and he was going to give me refurbished wheels for my car at an approximate cost $300 a wheel. He said through gm they would cost about $480. I have called numerous times and left messages, and no one has called back to get this resolved. I know I am not alone, because online there are a number of gm owners with the same problem on gm vehicles and GMC trucks. I believe it is a gm defect issue and I shouldn't be expected to pay $300 a wheel. I understand they were replaced at no charge on cadillacs. This is not our first Buick. I've owned gm's since 1976. I've had similar wheels on several of the vehicles and never had a problem even though the cars had higher miles and were older.

Have had repeated issues w/dash warnning light saying right front tire pressure low. Just came from tire shop. They told me them chrome is peeling on the inside of the rim causing a poor seal at the bead. From what I am seeing on different sites, this is not an single isolated incident. Tire shop also said wheels similar to mine were recalled on Cadillac models.

The chrome plated wheels become corroded and leak air around the bead of the tire. I have had all four tires remounted and sealed several times. Now it looks like I will have to buy new wheels gm dealer won't replace them having to pay for new wheels. The front passenger wheel now leaks about 10 lbs of air a day, which in my opinion is a safety factor not to mention that it is now winter and is a real pain having to put air in them every day.

I took my vehicle in for new tires, over the next few days I noticed my tire loosing air. Went back to dealership and they removed the tire to find the rim had corrosion on the inside. They had to grind out the corrosion to see if they could get the tire to seal. I believe this weakened the rim. I notified gm and they want to cost share the same type rims. I believe these rims have defective metal and said I was not willing to put the same rims on. They declined further possibilities. This vehicle has always been garaged. I keep getting an error message that my air bags are not working I take my car in and they say my air bags are "bad". The seats heaters/coolers stopped working about 6 months ago I checked into getting them fix and it is going to cost a lot of money. Now I went to put air in my tires and I am getting an error message to have my systems for my tires checked. This is the third time the tire gage has been broken.

There is a slow leak of air from 2 of the 4 the aluminum alloys wheels. The wheels are original equipment on the car. Also these 2 wheels have chrome flaking off. This should be a recall or covered on warrenty because it is very likely a manufacturing or material defect.

On this date I had to take the car to trio tire, the local auto repair store to correct a flat tire. After several tests, I was told it was a rim flat due to the deterioration of the chrome wheels on the car. A bead sealer was made on the rim to seal the tire. On 12/23/10, mileage was 37415,another rim flat was repaired at the burns Buick. All four tires were resealed. I was told at that time this was a constant problem with the same chrome wheels, but there was no recall. The problem continued and on 6/20/2013 I replaced all four tires with new michelin p235/55r17 which matched the original tires for this car. On 6/30/2014 trio tire had to remove "heavy corrosion on right rear rim" and recommend replacing rims as they deteriorated substantially. The cost of new rims is prohibitive and does not dismiss the same events occurring again. Within 2 1/2 years my rims have dissolved causing a potential hazard while driving at any speed. I request you investigate these poorly made rims and declare a recall before someone dies.

The tires continue to lose air requiring frequent refills. I am told that the problem is with the wheels and that I will have to buy new ones at over two thousand dollars. Causes the car to steer hard and wear on the tires.

The contact owns a 2007 Buick Lucerne. While parked, he noticed the "check right front tire" warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. After inserting air into the tire the warning indicator turned off. The vehicle was taken to a tire shop on two separate occasions for the identical failures. The technician stated the failure was contributed to the aluminum chrome wheels equipped on the vehicle. The aluminum chrome was peeling from the wheel while causing gradual air pressure loss in the tire. The front passenger wheel was replaced. The front driver wheel exhibited the identical defect. The failure and current mileages were unknown. The VIN was unavailable.

Left rear rim, valve stem and two wheel weights replaced. Chrome coming off due to poor quality. Causing frequent balancing of tires and adjustment of wheel weights. Vibration problems since 10/24/06. February 22, 2008, tech replaced left front and right rear wheel for the same problem. May 7, 2008, tech replaced right front wheel from peeling chrome. Experiencing the same problems now. Vibration in car at 50 mph. Tires do not stay balanced due to flaking off chrome. Technician will not rotate tires due to safety issue. Have documentation, pictures and statements from technician and garage attendants. Buick company will do nothing for us because our warranty has expired. Rims should have been a recall.
