Tl-the contact owns a 2002 Buick Park Avenue. The contact stated that while servicing the vehicle, the dealer found a leak in the lower intake gasket. The upper intake was found to be deformed and caused a cooling fluid leak. The vehicle was repaired. The failure was not reported to the manufacturer. The failure mileage and current mileage was 45,000. Kmj.

After 20 miles of smooth driving with no indication of anything going wrong and while pulling into the parking lot of my office my check engine light came on, I always immediately shutoff my vehicle any time such thing happens to prevent any damage to the vehicle, I proceeded to walk into the parts store next to my office to get power steering fluid due to the low fluid level I had, however when I tried to turn over the motor the motor would not turn. My mechanic told me it was "hydrolocked" and that there is a coolant passage which is commonly known to leak into cylinder 6 and locking the motor requiring the intake and gaskets to be replaced. This happened less than 30days after my vehicle passed inspection at a dealership. Also noting that the dealer was told I was losing about a gallon of coolant weekly. A coolant elbow was repaired, then two days later is when the motor locked.

Car overheated, engine began to run rough,I put it in neutral and coasted to a stop off of the roadway, engine locked up. Had it towed to Buick shop, was told that coolant had gotten into the engine. Needed to replace upper and lower intake manifolds and gaskets, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs and change engine oil and filter. Flush cooling system. Reset temperature gauge and test car. Cost about $1800. 81000 miles on the car.

My 1999 Park Avenue suddenly started to run ruff, causing me to take the vehicle to a gm dealer who replaced the spark plugs and wires, as well as two ignition coils. He stated that the plugs had indication of burns that are attributed to anti freeze coming in contact with the plugs. During the repair he also indicated that he noticed anti freeze on the outside of the engine in the area of the plenum. The repairman stated that this is a common problem with the 3800 motor, that the plenum leaks causing associated problems due to the anti freeze coming in contact with engine components. He also stated that this problem can lead to engine failure if not corrected by replacement of the plenum and the intake gasket.

Plastic upper intake manifold failed flooding engine interior with coolant. Engine locked up. Vehicle operator was accelerating from idle to enter traffic when engine lock up occurred, but luckily had not yet entered traffic. Mechanic informed owner that this is a common failure for Buick Park Avenues with mileage above 90,000 miles. Repairs exceeded $1,100.
Leaking plastic upper intake manifold do to poor design.

The contact owns a 1998 Buick Park Avenue. The contact states that the coolant spilled into the engine and vehicle overheated , causing the car to stall. The car was taken to a dealership, and they stated that the engine sucked up all the coolant. Apparently it was sucked in to the engine from the egr port hole because it had become degraded. Also NHTSA recall campaign id 00v117000 was issued in 2000. It stated that passenger vehicles, some of these vehicles have front seat shoulder belts that may twist, allowing the webbing to become jammed in the retractor. This is the problem that consumer's vehicle was having, but manufacturer insisted there was never a recall for this problem.
No engine failure yet. . . . I am consuming almost as much antifreeze as I am gasoline. Just kidding, but in less than 1000 miles I have used 11/2 gallons of dexcool antifreeze. I can find no leakage on my garage floor, but it sure is going somewhere. Am I in eminent danger of engine failure?????.
Engine stalls and water in cylinders. Water in cylinders was corrected with a new pletium. The engine stall problem was a known problem when the vehicle was purchased. I was assured that the problem would be corrected. To date it has not been corrected. I gave up on wilkens Buick (on the 2nd return of vehicle) when they told me that I would not be given a rental but would have to pay for it myself. Agian this was a known problem to them, they are the one's that made me aware of it. Car stalls eveytime that you are coming to a stop and on occasion going down a hill and just letting up on gas pedal. This is a very heavy vehicle and at this point extremely dangerous to be on the highway, due to inability to properly control the steering when the engine dies. I currently have had the vehicle at 3 different repair facilities since 12/13/2002, and again to date the problem still presist.
Motor coolant is leaking water into the engine.
Engine burned out because there was no coolant in system. Also talked to mechanics, and mechanics stated plenium which was part of coolant system, cracked causing coolant escape and burned engine out. There be no coolant in engine.
While driving about 65 mph warning light for coolant came on. Consumer pulled off highway and stopped. Car stalled and was towed to dealer. Dealer found upper manifold plentium, which was made of plastic, had allowed antifreeze to flood engine.
Cracked head gasket and oil back into the cooling system. Therefore causing me to need another engine.
Cracked head gasket, and oil back into the cooling system. Therefore, causing me to need another engine.
Consumer complained about engine cooling leak at upper intake manifold. Manufacturer issued a recall for 2000-2003 vehicles, but consumer owned a 1999, Buick, Park Avenue. Consumer had to have vehicle fixed and asked for reimbursement, he was denied.
