2 Service Brakes problem of the 2003 Buick Park Avenue

Failure Date: 01/26/2015

I was driving home from work. Suddenly lights started going off on my dashboard indicating that my abs, traction control, and satiability control were out. Not being able to stop on the highway or contact someone to give me a lift home I proceeded to the nearest Buick dealership to see what the issue was. During the journey the lights turned off, but thinking it was an electrical problem I still headed towards the dealership. The car was looked at by a service tech. I was told my brake module computor was out and I needed a replacement. The cost was roughly $1200, knowing I couldn't afford it, I asked if their was a safely recall. Their was not. I asked if the vehicle was safe to drive home, the man said he didn't see why not. Thinking this meant my brakes were fine and noting that the lights were now off, I left and drove for about an hour or less towards home, I was roughly 9 miles away from my home when I realized I was veering into the other lane into another car on my right. I applied the brakes and attempted to steer my car out of the way, but both of our mirrors hit, my car then proceeded to spin out on control counterclockwise. Fortunately no one was hurt and no reportable damage was done. But it was still very unpleasant and could've been a lot worse. I knew I couldn't drive it back 65 miles to the dealership so I had it serviced at a local mechanic shop in my home town. I asked him why I spun out when doing the emergency maneuver. He told me as well as the computer powering the traction control, abs, and stability control, it was needed to operate the power disk brakes. Needless to say this could've been very much preventable if the dealership had instructed me not to drive home.

3 Service Brakes problem of the 2000 Buick Park Avenue

Failure Date: 12/07/2012

I was driving a Buick park Ave 2000. After stopping at a stop sign I made a right hand turn onto a busy 3 lane city street. When I accelerated and began changing lanes the car lunged a little and continued to accelerate on its own. I tried pressing the brake and it felt like there was a block of wood underneath it. The brake was not working and the car kept accelerating I was approaching a busy intersection and the light was red. I tried down shifting but nothing changed. I kept trying to brake but . It didn't work and the car kept accelerating so as I approached the red light the only thing I could think to do was try making a sharp turn with the cars that were turning headed in the opposite direction I was going. I managed to slice between two cars in the turn but the steering wheel became incredibly stiff and I couldn't negotiate the turn as hoped. I ran into two cars that in turn were pushed into two other cars as a result of my not being able to break or control the steering into the turn. There were two people who went to the hospital and had injuries.

6 Service Brakes problem of the 1999 Buick Park Avenue

Failure Date: 12/24/2004

The complaint was received via e-mail. I went to goodyear to have my brakes checked when they removed the wheel cap, and the plastic snaps that hold the wheel caps in place fell off. The mechanic called me over and refused to take any more caps off. It was determined that I needed front brakes, and I gave him permission to take the second cap off. One more snap broke off. My car is a 1999 Buick Park Avenue ultra of 42,000 miles. Approximately a year ago I had to replace a cap that was missing at a cost of $54. 00. These caps are poorly made and cannot withstand the process of having tires rotated, replaced or whatever condition requires that the tires be removed. Replacing these caps has become an expensive problem not only that, but dangerous as well. This is a faulty product, and should be looked at. I have called the Buick people, and they refused to replace these caps. Also, will not acknowledge the problem.

8 Service Brakes problem of the 1997 Buick Park Avenue

Failure Date: 03/01/2001

I own a 1997 park Ave ultra with several recall repair issues the following were addressed by gm but not properly repaired: (faulty) abs system (with campaign code sticker) replaced abs system cuts out randomly causing changes in stopping distance (in severe braking situations the abs system has cut out on me getting off of the highway causing me to have to apply excessive pressure to the brakes just to come to a normal stop) front passenger seat belt replacement(no campaign sticker) middle rear seat belt anchor was never fixed or torqued to proper specified standards while in for repairs let alone addressed at all rack and pinion has multiple issues some due to age and miles but regardless the entire assembly is loose and bearings are shot the faulty recall repairs on my vehicle don't instill trust in gm's ability to repair my vehicle a second time.
