I started experiencing excessive oil burn at around. Since then, I have checked my oil biweekly to top off and keep at proper levels along with consistent oil changes as the oil gets dirty quickly. Dealerships before have told me that its "normal" for these engines. I discovered a bad oil leak. Vacuum pump issues. Multiple camshaft seals worn away, that were hard as rock from excessive heat including piston seals that had been affected. Thought this possibly had fixed the excessive oil burn. A few weeks later I received the oil level low notification on the car computer. I check and its very low. The oil burn is continuing with no clear signs of an oil leak with dirty oil. There is possibly more problems within the engine that aren't seen. I have checked previous complaints. I notice that this engine has many of the same problems with the turbo package on gm vehicles. It has a rough idle and engine hesitation. These characteristics seem to include inconsistent engine performance sound and are felt through the pedals, the driver's seat and steering wheel, there is a putter and hesitates while accelerating.

Vehicle has serious oil consumption issues. Will burn as much as 3 or more quarts in 1000 miles or less. Was notified by Chevrolet mechanic that some oil consumption was normal, but that if the consumption was excessive that I would have to pay up to $3500 or more to fix the car. There isn't a recall out on this make and model, but all cars equipped with this 2. 4l ecotech engine had the same issues from the research I conducted. The mechanic I talked to said that this was a known issue due to a defect in the piston rings allowing oil to reach the combustion chamber. Sometimes even the fumes come into the car and they are pretty harsh to breathe in.
I started experiencing excessive oil burn at around 85,000 miles. Since then, I have checked my oil biweekly to top off and keep at proper levels along with consistent oil changes as the oil gets dirty quickly. Dealerships before have told me that its "normal" for these engines. At 109,610 miles, I discovered a bad oil leak. I took the vehicle into an independent mechanic to diagnose and fix the problem. He determined that the vacuum pump had broken off into the engine which caused a seal problem for the top of the engine. As he opened up the top of the engine to remove the broken pieces, he noticed multiple camshaft seals that had worn away, that were hard as rock from excessive heat including piston seals that had been affected, he repaired them all after ordering the replacement parts from Buick. Thinking this possibly had fixed the excessive oil burn, I stopped checking the oil levels. A month and 1,000 miles later, I received the oil level low notification on the car computer. I check and its very low. The oil burn is continuing with no clear signs of an oil leak with dirty oil. There is possibly more problems within the engine that aren't seen. Checking previous complaints. I notice that this engine has many of the same problems with the turbo package on gm vehicles.
Called local dealership for a few recalls, they said they had to order the parts for recalls so when they got the parts they called and set me a time to get them fixed well when I got there they said that it only had 1 recall and they had to order the part that was already supposed to have been ordered to began with and they would call when they get the part in "still waiting on that call" the vehicle has 97000 miles and is also burning oil fast and smoking out the exhaust, they said it was out of warranty and there is no recall on the engine oil consumption on this vehicle because its VIN specific so the bill would be on me to have the engine tore down to see what is causing it to burn oil but I no it's because of premature wear of the piston rings after the research I have done on these engines so far but what ever the case they have yet to call me back and it's been almost 2 months now not sure what to do at this point.

Engine and brakes seized up on me without warning while driving in a parking lot, low speed. Took it in to my mechanic and found out there was an oil consumption issue, even though I was 2k miles under the next change I was also 2 qts low.
Back on February 9th, 2019 I had an oil change and received whatever premium-ultra synthetic oil they had. This oil was rated up to 9,000 miles I believe. As I was heading in for an oil change on the morning of June 2nd, 2019 the car suddenly locked with brakes and steering becoming extremely stiff. I was driving when this occurred but had been coming to a stop with nobody in front of me luckily. Had this happened 15 seconds before as I was going 55mph around a curve, I would have undoubtedly killed myself or someone else. There was no ability to steer the car or brake. When I took the car to the dealership they told me the engine would require a complete rebuild, costing seven-thousand-dollars. They claim it was caused by a "lack of maintenance (ie. Not keeping up on oil changes)". The lack of oil then caused the timing chain to break, which then further damaged intake valves, head gaskets, balance chain, etc. Now I know February 9th and June 2nd is nearly four months apart, however, in that time I had put less than 2,000 miles on the car. How was I supposed to know that my ultra synthetic oil which is rated for four times longer, in a car that in that time had been reported to burn oil, and doesn't have an oil level sensor, would burn oil? in my mind this isn't a lack of maintenance, it is gm's lack of communication. Gm never informed me of any issues regarding oil burn, yet they supposedly require technicians to roll back the sensor because of this very issue. I should also mention that miraculously the car wasn't giving any outward signs of distress including extra noise, loud idle, handling differences or anything. While my situation ended with no injuries, after reading about this issue I am one of the lucky ones. This issue is not only unjustly draining bank accounts but also costing lives.
The oil consumption in the car is horrible, I have to atleat add oil in my car about 5 time in between oil changes, and my oil changes are done regularly, ive also have the issue of my oil and gas mixing, I did take it to the shop once and they fixed a recall that was involved with high pressure fuel pump, but im guessing they didnt fix the issue once that repair was done like they said it would.
2. 4 l 4cyl engine burning excessive oil between oil changes.
At routine oil change appointment (71000 miles) plus my concern to check out a noise during cold startups, Buick dealership tech noted no oil on dipstick. They recommended oil consumption test, discussed possible need to replace pistons @ $3200 and told me to return in 1000 miles to reassess. On leaving the dealership, my check engine light was lit (no warnings/lights/ driving performance issues prior to leaving the dealership that day), I immediately turned around and they re-ran diagnostic screen, reported to me that it reported nothing different than the one run earlier that day, told me again to return in 1000 miles. Approx 100 miles later, my engine suffered catastrophic damage, leaving me stranded at a stoplight intersection. I feel lucky that this happened in a safe town in broad daylight, and while I was at a stoplight. They again found no oil on dipstick, and major engine damage ,my dealer gave me options for replacing the engine with a new ($6300, 3 year warranty), or rebuilt ($5000, no warranty) engine. I have done oil changes always as recommended by onboard monitoring system. Seems that maybe there should have been a recall or consumer alert issued on this longstanding issue for these gm cars, not just a clandestine bulletin that only notified dealers of this problem for vehicles with long oil change interval recommendations. Very disappointed 55 year old lady.

Nyb car has less than 69k miles and is burning through oil. I bought it used and the dealer liked warranty ended before problems started. My check engine light came on within the first 2000 miles of me driving and the dealer wanted to charge me another $200 for a diagnostic. So I went to a mechanic and he said the engine was burning through oil faster than it should. At this point the car had turned off while under 10mph twice which is dangerous as the brakes lock up along with steering becoming very stiff. A mechanic did work on the car replacing plugs and other parts that had been damaged fue to the oil being gone, but the same engine is still in the car. Now less than a year later along with regular oil changes the car still burns through oil. The engine causes the car to rock when at idle and when moving under 5mph. My fear is that ive car will shut off again. This is a fault of Buick for designing an engine that can't hold oil.
Engine consuming oil with no leaks. Tech said that oil is passing through rings and burning during combustion. My car has 174000 miles and has been well cared for. I am very upset that the remedy for this is to overhaul or replace the engine. Also, a/c doesn't work anymore. Tech says compressor has failed. Please remedy. Last american car I buy.
Car burns 1 qt. Oil/ 1000 miles excessive oil consumption requires pistons and rings to be replaced --- many gm 2. 4 liter engines have this problem. This first happened under warranty but we did not realize what the problem was until the 5 years was just passed. However it was still under 60,000 miles when I brought it in for an "oil consumption test".
Excessive oil consumption. Failed oil consumption tests 2. 0 turbo engine. I had same problem with 2013 malibu with 2. 0 turbo engine. Where it developed a cracked piston! at around 30 thousand miles.

The contact owns a 2000 Buick Regal. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 15v701000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the failure recurred from the valve cover gasket on the rear end of the vehicle. The vehicle emitted burning oil from the rear of the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who stated that the vehicle needed to be repaired under the recall again. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.

I own a 1998 Buick Regal. While driving I approached a stop light and applied my brakes. I smelled a burning oil smell and started to see a black smoke under the hood. My car was damaged past the point of repair. I brought my car in to be repaired proir to the incident only to be told the parts to fix the recall problem will have to be ordered. I was never notified that the parts were avaliable.

Excessive oil consumption, needs to add a quart of oil afer 2000 miles. This is not acceptable. This is an added expense and will not get better. We also have a 1998 GMC jimmy two oil changes never had to add oil. The Buick dealer claims that this normal, I disagree, this is the 90's pollution is a consideration plus the additional operational cost. I also have a long rental record with national ,and always rent Buick Regals, not for days, but weeks and drive 2000-3000 miles per rental. Could you respond. Thanks.
