1 Power Train problem of the 2019 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 04/21/2025

Intermittent shift to park message displayed while vehicle in park. See #19-na-206 (through dtc b000a may not be set!). Caused by poor design of shift position switches! this is a known issue for many gm vehicles including my 2019 Buick sportback, for nearly 20 years. Gm should be made to fix this. In addition to not being able to start car and running down battery because of car power still being on and endangering the personal safety of every person using gm vehicles, it is possible steering lock may or may not occur and many vehicle accessories may not operate correctly. Gm needs to supply a fix.

11 Power Train problem of the 2019 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 01/31/2023

Dear NHTSA, I am submitting a formal complaint regarding a 2019 Buick Regal, which I purchased as a used vehicle in 2023 with approximately 19,000 miles. Since owning the car, I have added only 14,000 miles, yet I have experienced multiple significant and ongoing issues that raise serious concerns about the safety, reliability, and warranty service associated with this vehicle. Vehicle problems: suspension issues: shortly after purchase, the car has had persistent suspension problems, which negatively affect stability and ride quality. The dealership has replaced multiple suspension components, but the issue continues and remains unresolved. General motors (gm) initially agreed to cover these repairs even if my warranty expired and also stated I would qualify for a vehicle buyback. They have now backtracked and are refusing to honor that commitment, despite the ongoing unresolved safety issue electrical and transmission malfunctions: I have reported intermittent electrical and transmission issues to the dealer. These include erratic shifting, hesitation, and occasional system malfunctions. Each time, I have been told they cannot replicate the problems, so no repairs have been made. These issues are intermittent, but they occur while driving and are potentially dangerous. Delays in repairs and warranty coverage: the dealership delayed parts ordering and repairs for my suspension concerns until after my warranty expired. This delay appears to have been intentional, potentially to avoid honoring warranty coverage. Refusal to service due to location (puerto rico): I live in puerto rico, and both gm and the dealership have stated that they are limited in what they can do for me because of my location. For example, I was told they cannot order a replacement windshield to puerto rico, and that what they can do based on a buyback or warranty coverage is limited. I have been patient and waited for the dealership and gm to make things right for 2 years.

12 Power Train problem of the 2014 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 03/12/2022

2014 Buick Regal GS awd sedan, second owner. Car was purchased as a certified used from Buick dealer in 2018 with 40,xxx miles. Car now has 137,xxx miles, no longer under extended warranty. Have had all regular maintenance done and have records. Aside from normal wear and tear, no prior issues with car. Car engine suddenly started to run rough, check engine light came on while driving 65 mph, sudden loss of engine power and car died on the highway causing congestion and vehicles to swerve on highway, loss of steering control, pulled over. Car was able to be restarted but running rough, engine light on, severe reduction in power. Talked with nearest dealer, they said to not drive car. Had local gm mechanic do inspection, computer codes indicated loss of compression on cylinder 3, misfire. Compression check and bore inspection indicated loss of compression on cylinder 3, valve failure/damage, oil in the turbo, requiring complete rebuild or replacement engine and turbo. Review of TSB from gm indicated this is a known issue, engine to be replaced.

13 Power Train problem of the 2017 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 01/20/2022

Vacuum pump blew up forcing cam shaft sensor to blew out of engine and caused my brakes to fail. This happened at a stop sign. I proceed through the stop in front of a semi-tractor. Fortunately it was in front of the police station in(30mph) town zone and he was able to brake before killing me. My vehicle stopped before going through the front door of an auto shop, my timing cam is damaged and shepherds is quoting $2600 to replace, plus an additional $800 already spent in replacing the vacuum pump. I’ve driven the car an additional 6 months with the cam sensor detached but the vehicle stalls when I slow or stop. This has caused additional hazardous situations. Person(s) will die if this defect is not addressed, it’s probably already happened. I have over 25 years in automotive safety systems design and manufacture, this needs addressed immediately.

16 Power Train problem of the 2016 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 07/23/2021

We purchased this vehicle in may 2016 and from the beginning had strange issues with the engine. It was in and out of the dealer with them trying to figure out the exact problem. They could not, so they contacted gm for approval for an engine replacement. We were concerned about going this route but were assured it would be taken care of for the life of the car. After the replacement in July 2016, the car seemed to be better but other weird issues arose. The engine always made a squealing noise that we were told was fine. We have done all required maintenance, recalls, and regular service. For the past 2 months, the car has had strange shifting issues. It was taken in to be looked at and nothing was found. The transmission received its' routine maintenance on schedule. It still was a problem and we were told to drive it until a code appeared. The car got progressively worse and had great difficulty shifting, which had us involved in a few close calls. Took it to a different dealer that also didn't find a problem. They said since there was no code, but seemed transmission related, they would drain it and replace the fluid. This also didn't work. We continued to drive the car and almost ended up stranded in the middle of the night while driving the freeway. The car became almost uncontrollable. We made it home. But, the following day while driving it to work, the car was jerking, stalled, and then lost the capability of reverse and neutral. We had to have it towed and a new transmission put in. We were told by the dealer that there was an explosion in the transmission, and we were lucky we were somewhere safe when the car died. It's very frustrating paying for a vehicle that didn't seem right from the beginning. We have put well over $6,500 in trying to repair a car that seems like it was never right in the first place. We have been fortunate that neither of us, or any of our children, have been hurt considering the major issues with our car.

My 2013 Buick Regal VIN:2g4gr5er6d9248513 is having one of the 3 recall issues that you have listed. Issue #13v173, my car will not start and the battery is losing power. I replace the battery and was informed that the battery is good as well as the alternator but when I took my car to Buick, I was told it was the general control module. Unfortunately, the NHTSA does not have my VIN listed as one of the affected 2013 Regal models but in my opinion, it should be listed. I am attaching a screenshot of the part and repair listed for my vehicle. The part is $929 to replace.

19 Power Train problem of the 2018 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 02/02/2020

Steering wheel jerks back on auto start after auto stop. Extremely dangerous the issues happened while driving and at random. Reported the issue early February 2020 again in early may 2020 after failure to duplicate the issue by the service department. Reported the issue again early October after the issue was worse. According to gm field specialist the steering rack was the issue, it was replaced but the issue was still persistent and they continued to have the vehicle for about a month. Vehicle was returned back to me with a sharpening noise and a steering wheel going left. Have not heard back for repairs.

Our cur completely shut off all power lights engine everything doing 80 mph on interstate 84 in idaho. A semi seen it happen jumped in the middle of both lanes to block traffic so we could get to the shoulder. In a no cell phone area 13 we disconnected the battery and had to shift srive it in limp mode. No alert lights came on we took it yo a certified dealer to find the pistons, timing chain and other things are ntoken gm/ Buick was notified they decided to decline assistance because we are out of warranty 93k miles on the car and over 5,000$ in repair and possibly another 2100$ to repair the cadilitic converter. We were in a no cell service area and had to drive in the shoulder now the headlights won't turn on at all either. The car never alert us it just shut off the dealer says the oil was very low again no oil light came on with that yhe dealer says therecould be a bcm/ecm communication issue costing 1200. 00 to 2500. 00 to fix. They can't assess completely until the piston/ timing belt issue is fixed but the car is not communicating the steering is now super tight and the only yhing it says now is service stibilatrac and the mechanic didn't even bring that up.

26 Power Train problem of the 2014 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 02/04/2019

Off and on over the past 6 months, there was a loss of brakes directly after startup. After 30 seconds or so, the brakes would function normally. This car is normally garage kept. Walking to the car at night to leave, I noticed oil on the garage floor coming from under the car. After opening the hood, I noticed oil in the engine compartment coming from the top of the engine. After removing the plastic engine cover, I saw that the oil was coming from what I learned is the vaccum pump. There was a visible break in the pump housing. I went to my local dealership to inquire about getting this serviced under warranty. They started that this part is only covered under the bumper to bumper warranty and not powertrain warranty, even though the vacuum pump is directly mounted to and connected to the intake camshaft. My bumper to bumper warranty had expired 3 1/2 months or 219 miles prior, yet the car is still under the powertrain warranty. The dealership was unwilling to help and quoted me $104 for a new ac delco vacuum pump. I was able to order a new ac delco vacuum pump from rock auto for $43. After receiving the new pump, a mechanic friend was helping me to replace the pump. When the old one was removed, it was shown to have disintegrated. The inside of the part was in many pieces. The part that engages the camshaft was also broke into pieces and at this point I believe that several of those are now inside the engine. At this point I am going to take the old part to the dealership, along with photos of the engine and demand that this is now fixed under the powertrain warranty, as the powertrain is directly affected. Had this happened while driving, the loss of brakes could have been catastrophic.

27 Power Train problem of the 2014 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 01/10/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Buick Regal. The contact stated that the vehicle had a sudden loss of power. The dealer and the independent mechanic were unable to provide a specific remedy to prevent the loss of power. The vehicle had to be towed more than once to the dealer and the independent mechanic, but no remedy was provided. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and indicated that there was a power train warranty that may cover the repair. The manufacturer stated that they would follow up regarding the repair process. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 42,225.

33 Power Train problem of the 2013 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 09/05/2018

I pulled into a parking space and stopped. I took my foot off the break and the car lurched forward, running into a wooden rail fence. The fence which was old, was knocked down. It all happened so quickly, I wasn't sure if I had hit the accelerator. Two days later I made a normal stop in traffic. After breaking, the car lurched forward. I pushed on the break pedal to stop the car, before it could hit the car in front of me. This time I was sure my foot had not hit the gas pedal. I am now giving the car extra breaking distance. In either case, I didn't notice if the tachometer increased rpm or not, though with the sudden acceleration rpm must have increased.

None of the 4 recalls were fixed on this 2011 Buick Regal cxl 2. 4l car when I purchased this car at billion auto in iowa city, iowa. I'm not happy.

35 Power Train problem of the 2011 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 01/05/2018

Bought my car from a reputable dealer. The car was a fun toy for me to drive. My 2011 Regal apparently had has a transmission problem. The shop says needs a new transmission because everything is sealed and can't be serviced. Anyway multiple times I'm on the road and in town and the car drives okay, but as soon as merge onto the high way the car stalls. Heres what happens as soon as I merge onto the high way the rpm's go way up. The trassmission is stalled. The car won't accelerate. Multiple times I've almost had an accident. The instrument cluster has "d" flashing and engine light is off. I pull over the side of the road turn the car off, and then restart the car and then it works again. This sucks. It honestly a 50 50 chance the car transmission will stall when I merge onto the highway. I feel this is a recall issue. Manny people have complained about this recently around the same millage of mine. Around 100,000 miles. Only problem is Buick takes blame on the same problem with the enclave, but not the Regal. What a shame.
