6 Power Window problem of the 2000 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 12/01/2006

I have owned a 2000 Buick Regal since 2001. A few months ago, the driver's side electric window starting operating erratically - sometimes it would not work at all; other times it would. My mechanic looked at it but it worked fine for him. Last week, it suddenly stopped working and made a grinding noise, causing difficulty in every day usage, such as pulling up to mailbox to get mail. My mechanic stated the part alone will cost over $300 dollars. I have researched the problem on the internet and found this is a routine problem in Buicks due to poor design - a plastic piece (involving regulator?) that fails too easily. Please ask Buick / gm to issue a recall due to the enormous frequency of this problem. Thank you.

7 Power Window problem of the 2000 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 06/16/2006

Electric window motors fail leaving open windows in vehicle due to faulty general motors design. Upon examination I found that the steel cables that hold the electric windows in my 2000 Buick Regal are under great tension and they self destruct due to the plastic guides falling apart. If the cable is not in tension the motor will not work and the window falls open into the car door. New motor regulator assembly costs $400 for each window and the dealers want $400 labor to replace each window. I tied the cables with rope to get the windows to shut with the motor and then forced the window to stay shut with a wood brace in the door. After paying for a new vehicle and a vehicle extended warranty from gm I should not have to keep paying $800 per electric window for the rest of my vehicles life. The windows not shutting is a vehicle safely problem. Gm representatives claim that because their electric windows fail open that it is not a vehicle safety problem. I know of many other Buick and pontiac owners that are also having the exact same problems with these windows as the vehicles age out of warranty.

8 Power Window problem of the 1999 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 04/02/2006

End of February 2006, the left rear window fell down for no apparent reason. Took car on March 1, 2006 to a mechanic to fix and also to fix right front passenger window which had been malfunctioning(failure to roll down). This cost me $800 to repair both windows as the rear and front window regulators are over $300 a piece. Now on April 2, 2006 the right rear passenger window fell down without any apparent reason. A loud pop was heard and the window fell. 3 windows failing within a month does not sound reasonable.

9 Power Window problem of the 1999 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 10/27/2005

Windows have failed for no apparent reason. Normal use only. The design/motors of these windows must be faulty.

Simultaneous failure of both motors in power windows in driver and front seat passenger of 1999 Buick Regal, causing sudden drop of windows. Both were replaced by dealer at cost to owner of $1,100. No explanation was provided by dealer as to reason for this extraordinary occurence other than stating that replacement was not under expired warranty. The sudden drop of the windows was highly dangerous due to its distraction factor, inability to repel inclement elements, etc.

Failure Date: 03/26/2003

Power window regulator failed on left rear door in March 2002, and on the driver's door in March 2003. Both failures were of the plastic retainer for the cable end which holds the window up. Both windows dropped several inches. The rear window dropped while driving, causing driver distraction. In both cases the window could not be raised without removing the door upholstery panel. The only repair is to replace the entire window regulator assembly. List price for the driver's door parts only was $352.

16 Power Window problem of the 1998 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 03/04/2003

Electric windows--front passenger can only be used via controls on driver's door and rear passenger side window came down and will not stay up--we cut off the power to it and it still creeps down. It lacks about 2-3" of being shut and has to be taped to keep air/water out. This happened last summer.

17 Power Window problem of the 2001 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 06/01/2002

The electric window mechanism on both rear windows were replaced under warranty. Now the left rear window has failed again and also the front passenger window has failed. When I called the local dealer, they had no explanation on why the rear window failed again (especially when I don't carry rear passengers and the window is seldom used) and was quoted $530. 00 for repair. It was after that the front window then failed. It seems to me there must be some kind of problem or defect with the mechanism since 4 windows have failed since buying the car.

18 Power Window problem of the 2001 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 12/28/2001

The regulator and motor malfunction in my 2001 Buick Regal. All 4 windows have had problems with this off and on since I purchased the car in December 2001. They stop working for a month or so, then start working again. One quit working completely, so I took it to the Buick dealer in fort walton beach, FL. They wanted several hundred dollars to fix it. I could not afford this, so they said for less they could bolt it in the up position. They said that was better than it being stuck down. So I told them to do that for now. Now the front passenger is broken in the halfway down position. The other windows work for a while then quit working.
